4x4 wood posts... maybe put a 2x2 rimmer on one side so it slants. gives you just enough room for a drain fitting + an elbow or a T. HD will even cut it for you! ;-)

Off the top of my head, cut a 4x4 into 4 sections and place your res on top of that? Maybe some old college textbooks if you can't salvage a few bucks for lumber.

so guys your just talking about making a square out of 4 4 by 4's and then putting the res on top of that? so the middle of the res doesnt need to be supported?

If you're worried about the weight in the middle you could add lumber there as well.

actually maybe i can make a rectangle and then put one more 4 by 4 in the middle for support and i can make the hole thing a couple inches less wide so it leaves room to drill the hole for the valve on the bottom corner. hows that sound?

Dependent upon the size of your res, you may or may not, need support in the middle. Regardless of size, it won't take much more to make 2 more cuts and add 4 more nails.

I use barrels and 4x4's no problem with support in the middle. On one I used an upside down plastic crate ( all I had ) bored a couple holes.. used the drain fitting to hold them together.. no probblems..u will love it this way..pal

sounds easy enough thanks guys. quick question before this thread ends. can i also fill the res through the same drain valve? i didnt know if there would be too much pressure from the water cause the valve is on the bottom? i would be attaching a garden hose from the shower head

i like to make a platform out of 3/4" plywood with ether unistrut or 2x4's for reinforcement then i mount some cheap 2" swivel casters on it so it rolls makes it far easier for res maintenance especially with flood tables.

thats a good idea but il probably not take it that far because the res is gonna be too hard to roll anyway cause its 70 gal and its on a thick rug. im gonna keep that in mind in the future thanks.

Just put some cinderblocks down, no gaps just a nice flat surface.

thats a good idea. i actually might have some in my back yard or in the basement. im gonna take a look later on tonight thanks

Bricks/Blocks as stated above.

Why build things when you can just sit them down and be done.

Why are you putting your reservoir on a thick rug?

cause its the only room in the house thats big enough to grow in plus its on the top floor. i dont own the house so i cant just take the rug out

I see...

You might want to consider laying down pond linder or something before getting started.
No matter how careful you are with hydro sometimes mistakes can happen. Even just a hose kicking out of your res while topping it up and pumping a few gallons around and cause some serious havoc.

I once had a room where a pond liner was used in the plant area, but unfortunately the res was sitting on heavy mat on a wood floor. Low and behold some water managed to get under the res and mat and when the room was torn down beneath the mat we found black mold and warped floor boards..

You never want a situation where water can get under something and unable to fully dry.

be careful.. forgot about a running RO machine once in an 3rd floor attic before I was using pond liners. Needless to say I got a call from my girlfriend asking why water was pouring out of my ceiling fan in the 2nd floor bedroom!!! Luckily the overflow ran down a beam and out of the ceiling fan spot saving me a ruining ceiling and a lot of work.

anything you bring in from outside though, make sure it's debugged.

very smart idea! i already had a small spill and it wasnt fun. i had to throw some blankets on the puddle to soak the water up. im gonna make sure i pick up a pond liner thanks. that reminds me, i gotta pickup a shop vac
