well my last drain to waste seedling grow was the best so far in terms of yield - 3.75 pounds from 10 plants, 2200 watts. But it required 5 gallon buckets for containers and a long 8 week veg (with 1k MH) to get there. I am finally putting cuttings into PPK modules. The first six went in last night and six more will go later in the week. I'm excited about a new system with no wasted water, no more seedlings and far less day to day maintenance...

I will continue to edit the index and will let you guys know if that's ever going to change.
If anyone wants the code for it just let me know and I will gladly send it.

you just got 6 oz's per plant. psychic delta says you are about to experience a major yield increase.

delta,
Soon. Very soon. I'm going to step up my lights very soon. I'm waiting on the weather and I was waiting on a landlord inspection but it looks like he isn't gong to call me. I will be running PPKs! I might run horizontal though. Maybe 9-12 per 1K.

delta,
MHO the final design is where it's at. I have read every single post of this thread and it'd be great to have a link in the original post to the (current) final design. For me, it was worth the read. But, my ideal job would be reading forums on the internet and I find the evolution of this system fascinating.

i'm working on another build tutorial that should bring everything up to date. i will update the first post then.

delta9 might want to start a new thread with the index as the first post. does that make sense? this forum's software isn't the greatest thing in the world.

i'm thinking about doing another thread that would be focused on the build and operation instead of theory. short, sweet, and to the point. theory could be linked to zeke's index of this thread which hopefully will become everyone's index after people link things they think should be included.

this thread could still function as the "ongoing development thread".

I actually thought I came pretty close (fundamentaly)?

yes, you did! it's just that i can see that plant in a full ppk yielding heavy. it has the "crazy bush" structure i like and will go nuts in a ppk.

the post i will try to put up later could mark another breakthrough increase in yield. thanks to IF.

read my lips, "no more new Texans"! adios, mofo! the presidential debate last night was actually funnier than an episode of law and order. but not much. we elect cartoon characters to office. Fudd you!

case in point with this forum software.

i know you wrote it, but i can't relocate the post in which you recommended a 2 gallon module when the veg. time will be restricted for two to three weeks. Is that right?

i think i said that. it sounds like something i would say. i'll ask mini me if i said it.

yes, when veg time is 21 days and stretch is around 21 days you are only going to get about 42 days of vegetative root growth. depending on the plant and speed of growth 2-3 gals is about all you need.

this is the first draft of ppk the pdf

is that cool with you delta?

i will remove it if not. the file is too big to upload here.

edit: the file has been slightly modified. I re-ordered the second part (theory) and added to it.

too cool for school! thank you! feel free to edit any way you see fit. there is a lot of redundancy and the whole thread jumps around so much that it is hard to follow.

Imaginary Friend has been playing around with a greatly increased pulse feed volume to see if the increased volume would enhance growth. it does. in his thread linked below he has grown a plant that has gotten much larger than he expected. while i still feel that his ideal of a uniform cylinder of water falling through the medium is overkill it is clear that we have a new level of growth.

1-5. i finally got the larger (1/4" id, 3/8" od) pulse line installed on all four plants in veg which lets me get the solution out on the surface as fast as possible with my pumps.

i went to a much "faster" medium. the turface/rice hull mixture

i stepped the pulse feed up to 32 oz's every hour.

i built a terminal apparatus and then improved it.

i drilled the tops of the res containers to catch and return any overflow.

the photos show the exceptional root growth that i got on a g13 plant. the longer roots you see were growing out of the top container and into the holes in the reservoir lid. as you can see some had made it to the solution below.

the roots are large, white, and fuzzy.

this plant was moved to flower on the 12th. the plant was not due to go until the 19th. it was 32" tall so it looks like it grew to flowering size a week quicker than previous plants. 3 weeks instead of 4. i have now transplanted another plant into the position. it was 12" and required root pruning. i'll watch it closely.

i have been feeding 750 ppm or ec 1.5.

i checked the reservoir of the plant that just went to flower and it read 584 ppm @ 5.8 after 3 weeks of use.

with the new holes in the lid i will be watching for changes in ec and ph due to evaporation.

6-9. this is a g13 approaching the end of stretch. the yardstick was not moved in between shots. i'll be defoliating it in about 4 days. this plant is in the turface/rice hull mix. it is the third g13 to go to flower and i'm finally seeing the real plant. the first plant was a seedling, the second was a cutting taken from the seedling before it reached alternate phyllotaxy so it displayed opposite phyllotaxy initially then transcended into alternate as it grew. the plant below was taken from this cutting and displayed alternate phyllotaxy for life. it will yield heavy.

this plant is 4 ft across and four ft high.

1-3. this is the rene x nuken with 3 weeks left to flower. like the g13 i have already harvested the seedling and this is the first cutting. the second cutting, which is the one that should demonstrate yield potential, is right behind it a few weeks.

4-6. showing the new terminal equipment for the pulse feed. installed on a plant. right side up over the pump bucket, and upside down showing the outlet holes.

this simple looking piece took me six months to figure out. works perfectly. even distribution with no back pressure penalty. i''l show construction detail later.

well, that's all folks!

how did you determine this?

by observation. i have known for a long time that i did not get the yields from seed that i get from clones. i didn't know why.

running the sweet tooth from cuttings for years with only an occasional seedling of something else i didn't get much opportunity to observe,

but lately, with all the new strains i have been paying close attention.

the seedlings of the g13, og nukush, and the rene x nuken all yielded less than i thought they should. soon i will be harvesting the first cuttings and they will yield more than the seedlings.

the second round of cuttings all have more shoots and budsites and should represent what would normally be a sexually mature plant in the wild. a plant that has naturally progressed over the course of a long outdoor season.

people growing from seed only never see this.

@delta9nxs... gardeners seem to find their way to the posts / concepts they have interest in... can just add links to post 1, to the revised build tutorial(s)....
maybe try `thread tools` then `show printable version`... maybe will give full text version of entire thread... easier to sort & index text than `thread` (user-interface) version... what exactly did you have in mind for an `index`?... purely technical? removing banter & humor & wit from the dialogues? would it then be the same thread?... indexing the thread for only the builds can be done... the format of the thread is public journal... the index & content keeps changing due to different public users adding varied content, daily... one thread works,,, but if make index, it may need constant (daily to weekly) updating to stay current, though doable... good thread & work. have fun! cheers

I find it fascinating that it would be such difference between the first cutting and the second.
Just to clarify, when you say second round, you mean it's a cut from the first cut?

I just rooted 7 cuts from my first Blue City Diesel seedling and will be on the lookout for differences between these cuts and the ones that I take from them...

hi, mistress!

organization has never been one of my strong points.

my ideal of perfection is chaos.

thank you for the ideas. i need all the help i can get.

thanks for getting all that blue stuff off!
