First question: Nail or Swing pad? Second question: Do you let your Ti cool off a little before using it? I've heard that red hot is too hot and a better flavor comes from lower temp dabs.

For me it depends what I am dabbing, if its something that almost fully melts I would use a nail, Ti also for sure, if its water extract I would put it on while its red, if its BHO or something of the like, I let it cooldown from red for like 4-8 seconds, considering they require less heat to melt.

If you overheat oils / shatter / budder, it can often cause gross black residue, regardless of how purged the stuff was.

I use Ti most of the time, it really just matters whats easiest / near me haha.

I heat to dull red hot and then let it cool slightly.

As JP notes, if you overheat it, it burns and leaves behind black residue instead of vaporizing cleanly.

you heard this? it seems odd you would ask this question, most people would just do some simple tests and then KNOW what THEY prefer.

hey, i don't use the Ti that much, but I know some of yall do. I'm still a caveman smoking hash on top of flowers most of the day. I heard this from the budtender that sells my ice water extract so thought I'd run it past the real Ti heads.

Swing pad is winning over nail, very interesting because everyone I know uses nails.

Ummm, not everybody! I have all three and prefer an oil well! What can I say?

when im in the comfort of my own home or at a friends residence, the ti pad is a no brainer

ti nails are a very close second and convenient for travel as the design of a globe prevents accidental burning if you were to brush up against something

i do like healthstone as well, but i don't have one of my own to do extensive testing hehe

well, i said everyone I know, I don't believe we've met... yet. I read you prefer a hand held Ti wand in another thread. Do you have a pic of that?

i have yet to try that, but looks interesting. My question is: how do you clean the stone after every hit?

Why would you need to? Properly made oil shouldnt leave a residue other than reclaim...Replacement stones are 20 bucks...i smoke about 3 grams of oil through before cleaning. i just let it sit in ISO for a few hours, rinse with pure water. Drys in minutes. i Own Ti pads, Ive used Ti nails, and I will never buy anything other than HSG for now on. No heating shit, can use on virtually any glass piece. Try taking a ti pad on a large bong...shit sucks.

With the HSG, you could burn up half a gram of oil on your hit if you desire. Much denser hits imo, which leads to better taste IMO..

do you heat your HSG and then dab it? when I was trying it, i put a dab on and then lit with torch lighter, unfortunately this gave me poor heat control (overheated the dab) and my subsequent hits were tasting "reclaim-y" from the residual oil.

it definitely gets the job done, easier than using a torch and unit when you're on the go, I see it as a very useful member of the team haha in fact I'd love one for the car or when i'm walking around but i don't see it replacing my ti

i haven't tried heating the stone up first and then dabbing, it may produce a better experience for me

I dab ice water extract (aka ice wax) all day and night from a 16 oz chalice, a bong would kill me. Dabbing ice wax leaves a slight amount of residue (actual amount is very strain dependent). Thanks for the reply. I really want to try one of stones.

My personal opinion is that domes are more noob friendly. What I mean is that it's hard to leak vapor, unless you don't suck. However it is arier than a curve. A curve if used correctly wont leak, but you need to know how fast to hit it. Curves imo have a lot better flow than domes do.

I did some tests to see if Red hot was where we needed it, or how much before. I was able to get it from not even red, but it's hard to guage where exactly that point was, as 2 other times I puddled and it slowly vaped. Red hot is too hot and yes you can burn your materials and it will taste funky/ who knows if you're destroying actives.

I think also, the biggest factor is what you are vaping, and what viscosity it is at.

interesting thread. Seems the difference in red hot and not red hot is that some like the vapor and some like the smoke?

I have also notice that it depends upon the piece used whether the nail or pad will give best results. Some glass seems to flow better with a nail and some works best with the skillet.
