you need at least bare minimum 10k if you want to set up a small grow that could yield maybe 50k a year in revenue....

i just want to caution everybody that california is not some promised land....there are certain areas out here that are pretty liberal, and definately money to be made....but if you expect to run 10kw lights and do underground brokering its pretty much the same stressful game..

just got done reading a bunch of federal cases that happened this summer.....they all have something similar in common, the following wording. "***** used medical marijuana as a front for illegal drug trafficking....****** was growing large amounts of marijuana under the disguise of 215........***** is charged with conspiracy to cultivate marijuana, conspiracy to distribute marijuana....

the medical marijuana defense only really applies if you are doing a personal grow that is under 99 plants and you smoke every single nug to yourself....but most counties now have restricted limits only a few counties have limits that exceed 25 flowering plants...

if you are growing to sell to dispensaries or sell to friends...its the same illegal game as they play back east...and while state laws might show lax sentences like 2-3 years...i just got done reading alot of cases where california growers are being charged federally and were sentenced from 10-30 years in prison for growing and selling pot, simply because they were growers who dealth with brokers involved in trafficking...so grower A sells to broker B and C and both brokers get caught up in nationwide conspiracy selling to dealer E and F...and they included the grower in the counts even though grower A didnt even know the end users out of state.....its a crapshoot and while i know alot of folks out here just get probation its still a nice felony on your record......but if you are absolutely sure you want to do this and live in a backwards state that has archaic laws then yes the best risk to reward is in a med state....but there is still risk thats all i wanted to emphasize...only way i would be able to sleep easy is if i had under my city county limit (6flowering/12veg---im at 40 flowering 70 veg give or take)....and all my bud magically turned into money and i didnt have to deal with brokers who are doing alot of illegal shit..

go ahead and type in "marijuana trafficking california 2011 sentencing" and check out some of the stories.......

and i wonder why i need 6 beers and a vicodin to fall asleep sometimes....im in oaksterdamn flood central where it supposed to be legal but thats only a false sense of security...

Speaking from experience, if you are in your early or mid 20's especially...and you live in a draconian state now, and it's ever even crossed your mind to move to Cali or some similar place...JUST GO. Don't fart around, don't worry about getting your stupid ex back, don't worry about being so far from mom and dad...just get up and fuckin go, man. You want to know why? Because if you don't, you're going to end up meeting some chick, fall in love, knock her up......and you'll be stuck where you are once you put down roots. Then you'll be stuck forever in a state that locks people up for 10 years over a personal garden. It'll be tough and lonely at first, depending on your personality. My somewhat introverted self is why I had trouble adapting in California, and I ended up abandoning my new life and now I'm stuck. Fortunately for me, my girl is A-okay with the idea of uprooting and moving to CA, but I'm going to be much older and things will be drastically different than they would have been had I just stayed.

Now see what I have to deal with that I'm older and all my connections have moved on? https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=215741 I have to either go through pure hell (or risk major prison time) just to get some good clean medicine. Don't end up like me.

I'm stuck where I am for the time being and I'm no youngster.......

I have to agree w/the OP here in saying 'fuck it' and following your dream if you must. Try not to set yourself up for failure by having some backing for your start ups. Monthly costs X 6 until you can harvest/cure/sell your first crop, you might be living on ramen noodles & Tang until then, good luck.

it'd be interesting as a mofo making the weed scene in cali, a discreet grower selling to dispensaries is going to take a fair bit less for his weed but will always have his crop spoken for.

being a provider for (X) amount of mmj patients might be more lucrative but a bit less interesting imo.

See, I had done some calculating in my head... if you're skilled enough to grow those 10 pound plants like Jorge Cervantes...and you're in Mendocino where the sheriff lets you grow 99 plants...you could theoretically grow 1,000 pounds a year and make $2 million. But if you're more down to Earth, and you grow 25 plants with an average skill level, you'll still get over 100 lbs...which means...no serious time even if the feds do want you. Which I would think they wouldn't since everyone is growing 100 lbs. And if you only had that much to deal with you could retail it for 3k a lb. Which yes it would be nice to make millions but at the same time it's stupidly greedy and life is too short...that's another lesson for those of you who are in your early 20's...LIFE IS SHORT, and is not worth risking 10-30 years over more money than you need

Hehe. I can relate.

P.S. NO ONE needs 6 beers and a Vicodin to go to sleep. You need to start spending those nights tossing and turning and FIGURING out you life-issues! Not sedating yourself... :)

Anything is possible, but whether it is a good idea is another question.

Day1.Get a place to live
Day2. Get a drivers licence
The middle of day 2 if the dmv doesn't suck ass. Get your med card
The end of the day. Take your first trip to the dispensary...
So, two days if you are motivated..

Equipment? for what? You need a job...two a pound dont cover too much
dmv mails your liscence it takes up to 3 weeks or never in my case. if you go to dmv make an appointment online or be prepared to sit a longass time waiting

My brothers water bill in Santa Barbara is over $200 a quarter. Dont forget about insurance and the earthquake riders.
Nothing's cheap in Cali except the weed.

yea thats another interesting thing....you can either get busted with the 10 Lbs you have on you now...or they investigate you and bust you for the 1000 you moved over the course of the year, and then you are royally fucked....

i think most of my stress comes from the fact im not growing in a rental house im growing in a house in a family members name and even thogh my grow is small and not even that profitable technically by the books they can make life hard....

my outdoor grows are on rental properties but thats 50 something LBs im gonna have to "divert" to the black market because no way in hell im selling shit to any dispensary and filling out tax forms, etc....or getting lowballed 1500 for something that is easily worth 25 on the underground market...

if only i didnt need to make money to pay all the fucking bills the state of california likes to hit me with..i would just grow and keep my numbers low and just sell enough to pay back investment costs and maybe a little on top...but if you are trying to make 100k a year out here be prepared to break some laws!

Well, shit, after all this talk, sounds like owning a dispensary in cali is where its at. The growers are really getting the shitty end of the deal. If you had a dispensary and grew for it, you'd have the best of the business end and still get to enjoy growing.

Whats it like to open a dispensary in cali?

I'd probably be more inclined to start a co-op vs a dispensary, what would be the difference there, as far as permits and annual licenses?

One more thing, what are you gonna do with all these epic piles of cash? How do you claim that on your taxes? As a dispensary or grower? Or are you just gonna go bury it all in the woods or something. It seems like so much more work than just growing some plants, damn

I'll be happy to deal with that when/if I get there, however it shouldn't be discussed here. That kind of talk will get a thread closed in a heartbeat.

It is much more work than just growing some plants, but with most professions, its the same way, more or less.
