Should I be concerned ??

Hi all

I'm just curious as to whether I sould be concerned with the following:

It's only really started to show these colours in the last week or so

A little info on the plants to help diagnose
*these 2 plants are just over 7 weeks flowering ( a 10-11 week strain)
*Temps in cab are around 25-25 deg and humidity around 55-60%
*Organic soil that is recycled and re-amended as needed
*Only watered when pots are dry and lite in weight (to avoid over watering) I do a full immersion watering leting it soak untill no more bubbles show (this is about every 4-5 days this time of the year)
*Nutes used are as follows, Usually every second watering is a WMC tea with a little seasol, Alfalfa FPE, some "monsta bud" and a couple of drops of superthrive. Usually every other water is plain H2o (rain water) and every 2 weeks I will add a PK 13-15 organic nutes in the H2o watering.

The rest of the plants look good and are starting to swell up quite nicely. It only seems to be on the lower, older leaves with the upper leaves normal and healthy looking.

So should I be worried?? and if so what should I do to rectify??

Cheers and thanks in advance, Johhny:gday:

Hey Mummycat

Ive been growing this strain now for about a year now ( Nirvana Special, forgot to mention that in first post) and this is the first time Ive seen this happen. I'm not overly concerned, more curious, but would like an idea as to what is going on and if it is a sign of something that may be of concern latter.

seems the collective wisdom here says that purpling is due either to cold temps or to phosphate shortage.

that some of the purpling includes a leaf edge inclines me to think there may an imbalance in yr soil.

you mention amended soil. others have posted that amended soils can develop hot spots as the soil adjusts its chemical state to the new state that begins when you add nutrients. the soil might have been fine without added nutrients, say in a vege garden, but once powerful ferts are added all sorts of complex things can happen.

but all in all yr plants look good.

perfectly normal for this late in flower. molybdenum def is what brings out the purples and the golds and reds in leaves.

Hey Wilbur

I sould probably be a bit clearer on the amended part. I recycle the soils I use, I have a couple of containers that I use, 1 which is 1/3 full and it gets the old soil untill it's full and then I add some extras to it, blood & bone, dynamic lifter, a little bit of worm castings and then a good wet down of WMC tea/seasole to dampen it down and then it's let sit and age for probablely about 2 months. Once the other container is down to about 1/3 full I start the process over again with that container.

Iv'e been doing that for the last 6-7 months now and not have this reddening showing up before. As I said,I'm not to concerened but just want to make sure it's not the start of something more probmatic latter.

Thanks for chimming in, so you think it may be molybdenum def, I will have to have a little look into it and see what I can do about it, organically of coarse if that is possible.

Thanks guys for the input, all is appreciated.

you don't do anything about it, this is week 7 of a 10-11 week strain perfectly normal. i would add anything unless you really wanted to wait a few extra weeks before your plants were ready.

Nirvana beans are notorious for purpling.
I've seen it with NL, WW, Citral, Master Kush and Misty.

I'm not impressed with their genetics.

Hey again stihgnobevoli

I'm not to concerned at adding anything as the rest of the plant looks and smells great, I just want to be on top of the "problem" in case it shows up with my other plants and be ready for a solution if required.

Thanks for chiming in, it's just a little strange that Iv'e not seen it before with the leaves. I have noticed that the stems of the fan's have had the red colouration before but just not in the leaves like this.

I must say that I too am not overly impressed with "nirvana" beens either. I bought the indoor mix over a year ago and had quite a dissapointing germination rate out of the 10 seed I got with only 2 making the distance. This plant is the only one surviving out of that lot.
