quick update from last weekend:

and i took some more pics of the trunk cause it's so awesome :D

here's one of the lower branches that are moving along fast!

picture.php

i was over there a few days ago and it's even bigger. i added a dose of camellia flower FPE and top dressed with another gallon or so of EWC. it's amazing how fast it's eating the mulch! i definitely have a healthy microherd in that big pot :D i guess the giant healthy plant is a good indication as well :D

Looks great, she's going to really produce for you and your bud knowmsayin? :pimp3:

Nice thread heady, gotta love that CA sun.

I hope this WW lady turns out well, I have come to like the strain recently as a friend gets it somewhat frequently.

thanks friends! i appreciate the kind words and encouragement :D

quick update!

she's officially been upgraded to small tree status :D i think each one of these branches is gonna be an ounce of dried flowers :D :D :D

i guess she loved the camellia fpe. i've got one more dose and i'm torn between giving her a second feeding of it or giving it to my strawberry patch instead.

also her soil is ROCKIN! beautiful structure when you press lightly on the top of the soil. also it's eating the crap outta everything i give it! mad, i finally understand!

i got some of the half finished compost from my veg garden and i'm gonna remulch the top of her container with it today.

i've noticed the bottom branches are developing much faster than the top of the plant. is this normal for outdoors? should i plan to do a multi-staged harvest?

the babies are looking happy for the most part. i'm going to repot them into my recycled soil mix over the weekend. i'm also considering moving them back inside to veg a little longer, because i'm worried that if the big widow is flowering that the photoperiod outside is too short for them. i want them a little bigger before i start flowering.

then again, i can't see any preflowers yet, so maybe they're still happily vegging away?

D Cent! I'm waiting for this thing to become sentient. The arms are already starting to show. It's like your closet grow but on a whole new little shop of horrors level.

i did some transplanting of the babies at my friend's place today. i thought it was about time to document them so i don't lose track of who's who as they grow up.

i got a nice mycorrhiza inoculant from a cool local organic amendment supplier that's starting up. i applied it directly to the roots as i did the transplanting.

i used my recycled soil mix and some ~1gal square pots i picked up for cheap. got everyone happily transplanted. i ditched the three weakest seedlings cause they looked shitty and i didn't want to waste the space. pulled them up and made them mulch for the big beastie :D

so here's everyone. a big happy family!

here's all the babies right before transplant.

also i'm happy to report that one of my widows from the cab revegged successfully. it's a good thing because i really fucked up my clones this time around...

picture.php

one last thing i wanted to share with you guys is how drastically ahead the bottom of the big widow is than its top. here's the top of the meristem, the middle of the thing, and a nice frosty branch from the very bottom. it's like 4 weeks difference according to how things looked in my cab this run!

the big widow had eaten like 4" of soil out of her container, so i filled it back up with at least 5 gal of my soil mix, then mulched over it with some garden waste i brought over from my veggie plot.

i was gonna ask about that...

support that is.

i've seen capt's use of bamboo poles in his glorious forest.

i'm afraid i've waited too long to jab a bunch of poles through the root zone.

maybe if i stick them in around the edges of the pot? then what, do i tie it up with green garden tape?

PLEASE i'd love suggestions i've never had to deal with this before. thanks!

Just had a chat about this with someone, .. As much as your or I might cringe at the idea of jabbing a stake through the roots, .. I've found that it really has a negligible effect on the plant.

So, I personally would just jab away, as it's nice to have the dirt around the stake to hold it in place, ..

OR, as you said, you can weasel it in between the side of the pot & the dirt, .. Less support this way, though.

And once I get the stake in there, I just use a twist tie (loosely) around the stem & around the stake, ..

i use raffia rolls (gift wrap stuff) for tie
id def use that pipe behind her (rain gutter??) & if you got spare containers
campact them with some dirt & jab some support stakes in ther

nIce Headdy I recognize summa those kidz ;)
I waited pretty long to stake in my forest as well... infact the capt. did much himself... as I was worried too. Stick the end of the bamboo stake where the soil meets the pot and push in towards the pot and down. I rarely hit anything significant. add a little jedi juice and voila ;) Probably exactly as you would have done it without these two little cents.

Say hi to big beastie for us~ MissGD

edit: yeah what dark said about surrounding her with potted soil - duh! great idea

here's what we use for tying up - whatever you get for the job, its nice to get any length you need rather than pre-cut... esp when you are using stuff from farther away like the gutter. probably similar to the raffa rolls?

thanks everyone!

i think i'll try sneaking in some poles between the dirt and the container.

i went over quickly today because my buddy spotted some action on the babies.

sure enough, 3 early girls and 5 little boys had made themselves known.

two of the boys were runty so i axed them.

the other three were pretty studly, especially the tallest, 8MH #1. i also kept #3 since i figured a squatter pheno might be worth having for me since i still have my cab to think of. the one on the right is a good looking OGer 99 (#3).

here are the early girls. BtB #4, 8MH #2, Dieserella #4.

and everyone else that hasn't gotten there yet:

thanks rusty!

we got four new gals! to x bmr #4, hashberry #3, ganesh #2, and one that my buddy lost the label for...

the bottom nugs on big widow are extra frosty for some reason. this is not how it works in the cab! that sun's got penetrating power.

picture.php

if i were miniature sized i'd be happy to live here :D

picture.php

also culled two more males that weren't looking like anything special.
