but how do you access the grow areas?

Well, if it were real, I'd put doors on the sides and I'd put shelves on the floors so that you could pull the entire shelf out of the grow area to work on it, then slide it back in when done.
If I was designing this to actually build it, it would have a lot more details. Since it's just an idle idea, I didn't get all complex with it. (Getting complex takes a lot of time. In the models I've actually built, I revised the design several times and spent hours or days designing each one.)
There would also be a sheet of plywood under the mattress for support as in a traditional bed of this kind. (But it'd be hard to see the setup if I had put that in.)
^this would be bad ass in the winter to keep you warm
