A compelling argument could be made for one of the years between 1921-1926; the roaring twenties.
Affordable automobiles for the masses, enabling anyone to basically go anywhere. Women's liberation. Boozes were illegal, but i bet speakeasies were off the chain (Did i mention womens liberation?). Again, no one bombed our factories, and there was a guy named Coolage in the Whitehouse.

If ya believe in what Eisenhower mentioned in his farewell speech, the military industrial complex, and you believe JFK was an inside job, one could easily argue that theyve been in charge since late 63.

Rumsfield, Cheney and GHWB all have deep roots in Nixon's admin, Jimmy was a 'one term-er', and Reagan was literally a movie star. GHWB goes from head of the CIA to VP; Rummy shaking Saddam's hand, undoubtedly solidifying an arms deal. (and its 100% fact both nixon and GHWB were both in Dallas nov 22 1963).

Shit, now i forget how im suppose to fold this tin foil hat for maximum protection..

We were great up until the civil rights movement of the 60s. That is the point we went from "do your best and succeed"...to the "welfare state". It was the beginning of dumbing down, affirmative action, and quotas. It was the end of America. How are you enjoying the "change"?

I know this one: NEVER!

for the better part of 20th century America was exploiting the rest of the world, now it's Americas time to pay.

Social injustices excluded, I'd have to say the 50's and 60's counting for the space race and various technological advancements. America was on a roll, and the world loved us. But the 50's also marked the beginning of our world conquest, and the 70's marked the beginnings of the neocon movement, which is what started bringing us down slowly but surely...Nixon and Reagan were treasonous tyrants who are responsible for much of our mess today.

we saw a push for gay rights!!!
we saw medical mmj!!!!

but wait those things are expanding!
states are actually expanding freedoms against the feds wishes!!

it's only getting better

Ignorance is Bliss, or haven't you been following along?

I also happen to disagree that all things remembered are done so with artistic license.

Things may have actually been better, hard to get perspective when you are the trainwreck

so you say the fifties huh?

... 1950's would have to be the best era for America during that century.
guess that depends on your definition of "good time" or what end of the hose you are on?

The year: 1967 The place: San Francisco

Young people were coming together and the politicians of the day began to realize we were a force to be reckoned with. We played a large part in ending the war in Viet Nam. Nixon was exposed and brought down by 2 young reporters.

Marijuana and good Owsley LSD. The beginning of the Sexual Revolution. A new kind of music that was ours.

Lotsa memories folks... keep em coming.

America had a tough time with Vietnam and solider respect. The draft was a gnawing aspect that exploited the poor, less educated and minorities. Rich white folks largely kept their kids out of service through higher education. Many received reserve-duty and never saw battle.

We had a few that enlisted to kill people with little or no thought to why we were there. It was hard to honor a system that had appeared to jump the shark.

Since then we've learned to look at rogue soldiers as individuals, not necessarily a mirror of our armed forces and the civilians that lead them. It's much easier with an all-volunteer force.

The pic of the wheelchair bound (probably veteran) is stunning. All those folks sitting on their ass. They see men in costumes, not a symbol of our beliefs.

I think the generation that fought WWII was truly the greatest this great country has known.

Back then, teaming up to defeat a common challenge was a good thing. Now, it's considered anti-american by almost half the country.

This is total bullshit. If GWB wasnt part of the Texas air national guard, those fucking Vietnamese would surely have invaded our homeland...

I am a veteran (from the late 90's, early 2000's). I say as long as there's brainwashed kids who don't mind the transition from Call of Duty on Xbox to actual combat and lost limbs, fuck it. Otherwise we'd need a draft.
There's always some sucker who thinks of George Washington crossing the Potomac and sees it as his duty to shoot and get shot at in some faraway land for no reason other than greed. Unfortunately, these people are 99% almost always in their late teens, never been away from home, have no college education. That's how I was. See, I know how these young dudes think.
I've seen what signing up in the service gets you - a 4 year ticket to legal slavery, a lifetime of nightmares(on the easy side), and $10,000 from the GI bill. $10,000 didn't even pay for one semester at my college.
Now that I have my degree, I look back at my time in the service and see it was a mistake, but that we learn from mistakes in order to grow. If I felt like joining up again I would go to OCS and get a job as a transport pilot, and organize some kind of arms deals orhuge trafficking operation on good old Sam's dollar. It's the American way. I would NEVER recommend that ANYONE enlist. Being enlisted means you are a legal slave. If you really want to join the military go to college first and join as an officer.
