True enough.
I would guess that the "merit badges", (ie: mentor tags), and "helpful post ratings" were created in an attempt at a remedy and to clearly distinguish who the community, (or at least the admins.), considers to be the trusted, "master growers". :tiphat:

...We'd almost have to start everyone over, with a clean slate, or create another, completely separate 'rep system' for "grow evaluations"...
But, it would probably take a lot of work to set up, (actually, I have no idea what that would require), and could be a tad redundant, unless everyone agreed to use it as intended.

And having the original "karma" rating system, "un/helpful post" ratings, and the hypothetical: "grower's achievement" ratings, might be a little much...

Or heck, maybe it's a fantastic idea, lol. :dunno:

I agree. I've gotten negative reps for expressing an opinion others didn't agree with.

I say Negative Reps work great if people give bad advice but not bad opinions.

We should never be afraid to start again if the end result is an improvement....

You made a post saying you could care less if someone gave you neg rep, and then in the post below it you said "I actually made that post so I'd get neg rep".

And you're shocked someone did what you asked them to do? Go figure. I guess lifes full of surprises....

I strictly don't give owl ass about negative rep, WTF, you hurt my feelings, now bitch say I'm sorry... Lmao. You guys are so sensitive, you actually made a thread about getting negative rep, lol, really? This is a prime example of waste of website space. It should be deleted.

Lol. Let me watch my negative rep go up!

Some of the coolest real deal cats have 3 rep dots and have been here years. When is the last time ya saw one of the "popular kids" from school and now they're just lame. Rep is more of a popularity contest . It can be dangerous to think that rep makes a solid grower, peer, friend or even human being. Be safe out there people, the rep system may be a tad off balance. 1:ying:
so true,i mean im no 4 on the rep list and im by no means even in the top 100 growers,or the top 500 for that matter, nor am i particularly nice or all that funny and i have a 20 yr old mountain bike and no pet!:) go figure!

I think it's crazy that on a site about growing, a ridiculous topic like this one goes on like the fuckin Energizer Bunny and a thread about rooting clones over night fades away after a page or two.

yeah but there have been a plethora of very interesting and insightful opinions rendered in it, entertaining to say the least.

The problem with the rep is once you get to a certain level, neg repping is useless.

Ideally, id like to see grow rep, that only can be gained in the grower forums.

And a 'shithead meter', something that indicates pos/neg rep for, say your last 30 days. If your very very helpful it's long and green, but if your posts are found unhelpful its bright red, like a chapped ass.

I have never seen a clone root over night, 2 weeks for me. So should I neg rep you....of course not...your entitled to comment.... like everyone else.

its all about political correctness, people have been trained to keep quiet out of fear of being told to 'shut it' by the herd mass, or in this case, fear of the negative rep button..... we love our green bars lol

But they are quite entitled to use it and say whatever they like...and be prepared to accept the consequences of what they say.

That's just it though, people are quick to say whatever they please but are only prepared to accept the consequences they want. Too rarely do people even give a thought to the potential of negative consequences of thier actions and then they try to cry foul when they experience those negative consequences.

True enough but if the rep system was based on ability it would make life for those just starting to grow a bit easier...cultivating cultivators from the main page springs to mind.

Your new starting out and you see a grower with lots of green dots then them must know what they are doing and a good person to get their opinion or advice.

We have guest pages and pm's to exchange pleasantries or disagreements .

Oh to live in a perfect world would be nice eh!!

It never worked that way though, as was pointed out, people give and get rep for all sorts of stuff and I bet most of the rep given out has nothing at all to do with growing experience or how helpful a person is. Even if the all rep was given out based on grow skill it still wouldn't necessarily be a good guide for a new comer to go by. I mean I've met plenty of talented growers who are patently uncapable of breaking their knowledge down to a level that a newbie could benefit from. They're excellent growers and their advice is good but you really need to have experience under your belt to be able to follow and use thier advice.

Conversely I've met people that are nice, friendly and helpful but when it comes to growing advice they haven't a clue. They try to spread tips they think are helpful but often they're parroting misinformation that's been floating around in the forums for years.
