Stealth Dresser $600 Budget

Hey guys,

I was just asked by a friend to construct a stealth dresser. He has a budget of around $600, and wants everything to be contained in the dresser, ie - totally stealth. My cab lacks in the stealth department, so I look to you guys for suggestions on lighting, ballasts, filtration, ventilation, ect. I do believe that he wants it to be solely a soil grown flower cab, as he has something in mind for veg.

Specs: Average dresser maybe 1.5'Dx3'Wx5'H

Let me know what you guys think.

Aw c'mon dude - at least come up with some ideas of your own for discussion.

You might as well just ask someone to build it for you and hand over the 600 bucks with the effort you've made here.

People genuinely want to help fellow growers, but there's a difference between "helping" and having all the work done for you! <end rant>

The starting place would be for you and your mate to smoke a bowl or two, sit in front of the computer and find similar sized set-ups that have already been built, then list the pros and cons of each.
Prioritise the elements of stealth i.e. Is noise more of a factor than light leaks or smell? Or can you get away with sound-proofing because the cabinet is going to be situated in a noisy environment?
Once you've got that far, you can prioritise the budget and make some basic design decisions.
After that you'll be in a much better position to ask stuff like "What is the quietest in-line fan?" or "will filter x and fan y be enough to clear the box of smell?".

Well, you did ask what "I" thought! lol

Good luck with the project though, and happy learning!

You also might take a day and play around with google "sketchup" drafting software to try and help visualize the space

My room matches my conceptual sketch almost perfectly

Hope that helps.

My apologies, I didn't mean to come off like I don't have any plans, and that I am just looking for a hand out. I should have been more clear with what I was looking for with the discussion - I meant what are your opinions on items used in a setup of this size; ie Sun System I&II, S&P TD 100x vs. The Whisper Line-up, The use of a Can 33, ect.
My setup is entirely DIY - HPS from a security light, remote ballasts via Sugabear's thread, DIY Carbon filter, DIY cooltube from hurricane glass, ect.
I have little experience with "store" purchased setups and this is where I was asking for input. I hope that clarifies what I meant.

No worries - I wanted to help too - that's why the second part of my post was meant to be constructive :)
I can't help on the specifics of the equipment you've listed, but I can describe how I've managed it for myself so far (if you grow, you have to accept the possibility that you might just get caught one day!).

Stealth is a concept that needs to be considered holistically (can't believe I actually used that word!) and is a blend of physics and psychology.
1. live alone
2. If you don't live alone, I have my teenage son here 2 days a week, avoid change. People notice change and get curious. I knew from day one that I was going to be an attic grower, so I put a discrete lock on the access hatch before anyone came round i.e. "It's always been there". My fans and ventilation run continuously - a noise that starts and stops, even a quiet one, is far more noticeable than a continuous background sound that your brain just filters out.
3. All materials go direct to the secure zone, so no-one ever asks what they're for.
4. For temperature management I have a room (grow-cabinet) within a room (the roof) that's insulated. The insulation also happens to muffle noise quite well so all of my fans go inside the box. The warm exhausts from both the ventilation and cooltubes is ducted up the chimney, avoiding any thermal signature (not that the plod are looking for operations at my scale, but you never know what tomorrow may bring).
5. Mahoosive carbon filter = peace of mind.
5 1/2. If any of your equipment is not performing up to scratch, replace it with a superior product, if possible.
6. If running power to a location, install a properly rated and protected circuit. You don't want the fire service to discover your hobby!
7. Pay all of your bills promptly. Don't break any laws (apart from the one!). Get on with your neighbours (but not too well). Never hold a party at your place... You get the idea.
8. Don't deal drugs of any sort. If you do have a surplus, move it all in one go, even if it means not getting top dollar for your labour of love.

Good grief, I didn't mean to start an essay, but it all kinda spewed out. lol

Good luck

im in a similar situation with a friend who wants to grow medical in Colorado, and come in way under budget. except for the $ of the dresser i come up to a cost of around $300 for the build. including a 400 watt light. and less than $100 for everything else. you just gota think simple, and shop around. a $100 fan at a grow shop is less than half at a hardware store.

wow what a bump lol - after researching everything the best way for him to go was with a grow tent. he has managed to pull a few crops successfully; but more importantly, it has been a great learning experience for the both of us.
