Oh the irony... LOL

http://blog.norml.org/2011/08/02/president-obama-advertises-on-normls-youtube-channel/
Why does music from British rock legends "The Who" keep playing in my head when I see this ad?
Remember when we were told that “legalization isn’t in the president’s vocabulary?”
Remember when Mr. Obama laughed off a suggestion that marijuana legalization could help the economy?
Remember when he emphatically stated he would not pursue a strategy of decriminalization of marijuana?
Yeah, we do, too.
So imagine our surprise at NORML to find an ad for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign nestled in the prime ad spot on our YouTube channel: NORMLtv (http://youtube.com/natlnorml).
What’s the campaign strategy for the marijuana smoker vote, Mr. Obama? Keeping at the head of the DEA one of Mr. Bush’s administrators? Maintaining the Bush-era policy of raiding medical marijuana providers? Escalating numbers of marijuana arrests on your watch?
Or will it just be, “Look, you think I’m bad, imagine what happens if (fill in GOP nominee) wins! I just want to force pot smokers into costly rehab they don’t need on the threat of prison. (Fill in GOP nominee) wants to (fill in terrible threat we’re already experiencing now)!”
You want the absolute guaranteed votes of 90% of the 25 million American adults who use cannabis annually in America?
Convince Congress to pass and then you sign Barney Frank and Ron Paul’s Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act.
It doesn’t cost you anything. Marijuana is still illegal in all fifty states and 99% of all marijuana arrests take place at the state and local level. It just means marijuana is no longer a federal issue; states are free to set up any marijuana regulations they choose. The people in marijuana friendly states will support you more and the ones who hate pot still think you’re a secret Muslim agent from Kenya anyway.
Well, I take that back. Your contributors from Big Pharma might not like you endorsing the competition.

I find it even funnier that they had to modify the article to say that NORML isn't supporting or taking Obama's money...

However, that ad should be stripped and denounced!

Hes pretty young they probably want you to think that

That office is like a time machine, presidents age remarkably fast. Obama has aged quite a bit in his first term.

He could always go the Reagan (= Grecian Formula) route.

I don't see this as that big of a stretch...NORML is not exactly a small grassroots organization anymore, they are as corporate as anybody else in the lobbying industry. That they would take money from a political candidate is really not outside of the spectrum of possibility. This is nothing more than a "bash Obama" thread disguised as some kind of moral outrage over a company practicing business as usual.

No, this is a thread about outrage of a company that takes contributions from the very person that has been working against their said efforts. His appearance on their page appears as an endorsement to any and all curious browsers. That ad has no place on such a site.

And if it is business as usual for them, then it is high time we show them the door and find another organization to make a difference.

It was said a long time ago that NORML had become corrupted and they wanted prohibition to stay intact as it gave them a cause and thus a reason to exist and continue earning pay checks. I always scoffed at such rhetoric, but now...I just don't know...

Once a President gets elected they have alot to do. Obama has many times that after what Bush did,you guys should remember that. He gave us a promise, hasnt followed thru with it yet but for the most part many changes happen in the second term. It would be nice to have Ron Paul but who knows if he could follow through. Legalizing ganja is a big step.

We know ganja is a all in one so just think of all the jobs it would replace and people it would send back to school. It would help us in the long run but since the majority does not know anything good about ganja and were taught by the people they trust(the government) that our plant is bad, they really arent gonna trust knew information. We just need to do our jobs as responsible adults and spread the education.

Harry Anslinger simply beat us to the punch, "now since the plants been convicted it needs some damn good lawyers to get it off". You can know everything about ganja and have years to back it up but whats backing up those years. A college educated person put in charge to keep this plant out of our hands isnt gonna listen to some know it all without a degree in what they are talking about. Thats just how it works.

Somebody with some guts and some money needs to make a movie about living off the plant. Eating it for nutrition, wearing it for cloths, using it to fuel there vehicles, using it to build there houses, using the seeds to feed live stock.. etc. Call it All in One and put a leaf on the front.

People need to be educated of why they may have had a bad experience with ganja.. is not an unripe fruit bitter? If the grower doesnt know what they're doing then the plant isnt going to produce proper medicine. Paranoia in alot of strains is a side of effect of an early harvest.

I do believe it should stay illegal for children under the age of 18 unless they have an illness. People shouldn't drive while medicated cause some strains change visual perception and depending on the job people shouldnt work while medicated. I do believe it should be illegal if not grown properly. It should be illegal to have a false understanding of this wonderful gift God gave us.

All we would need is for ganja to be moved from a schedule 1 drug to a schedule 2,thats the first step than all the scientist could begin there studies. It would trickle down from there into a legalized plant.

We just gotta stay smart, active and at the same time patient. We'll have our day and if not our children will.

Fixed.

Obama deserves every bit of bashing he gets, especially on this issue.

There's a thread like this in Laws and Legislature...... But here's my take before I close this one........

Obama said he would leave it up to the States to decide their MM laws, and unless other laws were broken the Feds would back off. And that's all he promised. And from what I see he did that. He never promised complete legalization or even hinted that way. I'm having a hard time remembering another Pres that did that..... It may have only been a small step. But at least it was in the right direction..... I've yet to see a Federal bust involving MM that didn't involve tax evasion or selling to who didn't have a cert..... So it seems he did keep his word.....

And for those who think Ron Paul, or even God himself has the power to just legalize cannabis, they don't. There are steps. And even if the Pres signed an Executive order proclaiming Cannabis legalized, you still would be prosecuted by the State if it is illegal there........

Here's the link for those that care to keep posting their falsities. Or those that care to post facts...........
