how much and what kind of slug bait do you use?.... i've used some no name stuff i could get and it worked well but just wondering how other brands work
niggle - we use Scott's but only because the local hardware sold it. They're all basically the same. You don't need a lot. Just sprinkle it, don't allow it to pile up. I also sprinkled it around the containers this year. I don't want those bastards anywhere near my plants!
Although it has rained long and hard twice in the last two weeks, the plants in the cedars need more water. (As I mentioned earlier, the swamp is doing great for water). The last big rain was 4 days ago and this is how the pails looked today:
A bit wilty and very tall (no wonder they are so thirsty). To shoot them I have to hold the camera above my head and shoot a bit down. Those were the only two shots where I didn't cut the tops off. In fact, this is more how they look from eye level (looking up):
Anyway, we watered and set up a twice a week schedule for at least the month of August. The buds continue to develop and show that beautiful magenta colour, and even a hint of resin development:
Oh yeah, and the bubbas are getting bigger:
The Sugar Cane Train x Chemdog from festivus have all shown sex so I expect they will mature before the frost. Great news. Even better - out of seven seedlings we got five females. I have let just a single lower branch of a male live. When it is ready to pop, we'll put a brown bag over it to collect pollen and selectively pollinate a branch of the SCT and a branch of our Baby's Breath to get lots of interesting seed for next year.
not sure what they are called but your buds remind me of some kinda pinkish purple plant that grows all over around my area... when i was younger we would pull the the pinkish purple parts off and get the juice's out of them... if i think of it ill grab a pic next time i see one.
I would really love to give those seeds a go. You ever think about putting some on seedbay? You could have yourself a nice following with those seeds. The buds look beautiful.
KK - when I first saw the original BB clone flowering in the swamp many years ago, it made me think of scotch thistle.
Claude, crfhonda and others who have asked: we're still working toward a stable line but I think we're real close. We'll have to see how much seed we get this year. We usually try to get very little - just a few seeds buried deep in the bud - by killing our male very early while there are just a few female flowers showing. So if we don't get much this year, we'll deliberately produce extra next year. It is a great outdoor strain and nothing would make us happier than to have it growing everywhere under the sun!
The day after our last visit to the cedars it rained for 8 hours solid - over an inch of rain. Since then we've had two days of back to hot and humid. I was curious to see if the plants would have wilted over two days so I dropped by mid-mountain bike ride tonight. Everything looks much better, so our twice a week regimen should do it.
Pails 1, 2, 3, and 4:
The third pail is the Sugar Cane Train x Chemdog from House of Love. We're very excited to grow this outdoors in Canada and hopefully cross it with our Baby's Breath. It is just starting to flower:
Our Baby's Breath is nice and early so there's some nice bud formation showing, most with some degree of pink-magenta:
But at least one is looking good with bright white pistils:
Finally a couple of arty shots. Buds saluting the setting sun:
And this one of two pails blending in with the cedars just before sunset:
Very nice pics brother! I'm curious to see what the sct will look like when the fall temps drop, and yes, put me on the bean list as well! Bean me up Scotty! lol
