2x400 vs 600?

I am a firm believer in the more directions the light is coming from the more of the light hits a leaf. Less self shading, larger secondary buds.
Pruning the plant to match the light source makes a huge difference. Lollypopping makes a single layer canopy more accessible to a single source light. Larger primary buds.
I run 7 x 400 on top, 3 x 128 on sides, and 3 x 42 underneath, the other room is 2 x 400 top + 4 x 216 on the sides, as I said I am a firm believer in light from everywhere.
I know a grower with 2 rooms with just 1 x 1000w each and has good results, but totally different plant health and bud/leaf ratio's.

That seems like a small area to have 2 400s in. I agree with Phaeton that the more directions the better.
If you went with a single 600 you would have better penetration of the canopy and you could run some fluoros for side light.

Maybe, but the 1 6 might be easier to cool depending on what you got and what you are doing. How are you planning on running them and what kind of air situation do you have as far as intake and exhaust?
no question about it 600 all the way. I just love the 600 more then the 1k. There more efficient the any of the bulbs. Yield can be same or better the 2 400. Of course im biased because I love the 600. Im running 2 600 in a 5x5. I just pulled 11 oz from 2 plants. Thats not the best but very good imo. I have 400 and t5 to veg with.
Run as much light you can properly cool.

lumens dissipate quickly depending on how high the lights are, you wont get 100,000 lumens. YOu can get more lumens than a 600 because you can get a 400 closer to the tops of the plants, however a 600 will penetrate deeper. SO the real question is, will you be growing tall plants that you vegged a long time or short bushy topped plants. If your doing short plants 2 400's would be way better. at about 8 inches from the top you would get roughly 36,0000 lumens. as apposed to the 600 youd have to have it farther away to not burn your plants which the lumens it produces would be less than the 400 by far at the distance it needs to not burn plants and have decent spread. so 2 400 watters at 8 inches away would produce about 72,0000 lumens. You would get better spread with 2 400's but deeper penetration with one 600. Use cool tubes for sure. On another note, saying the yeild will be better with a 600 is very misleading. distance from your light to plant cannopy has everything to do with how many lumens your plant is receiving. for instance how well would a plant grow where the light was 10 feet above the canopy, you would hardley get any lumens to the plant vs the light 8 inches above the canopy. Theoreticaly a 125 watt cfl would give more lumens then a 1000 watt bulb to a plant if the cfl was right over it vs the 1000 watter 15 feet in the air, its all about "bulb closeness" You cannot reccomend a 600 over 2 400's untill you figure out how he will be growing these plants and how hes cooling the bulb.
400's are on standby but no air cooled hood or tubes. Just lights from depot converted to grow lights. As I read post starting to think a new digi 600 air cooled would be best. Since the tent is 40"40"78" I'm guessing it would be best have severalsmaller plants vs fewer big ones. ?
600's all the way. Your gonna have more heat with the 2 400's and you just get better coverage, not penetration. I much prefer 600's to 400's. Just because lumens is equal does not mean you'll get the same large density nugs that a high penetration bulb(600w or 1kw) give. To me they arent too much warmer then a 400w, but you should still consider moving up to air cooled hoods.
I learned my lesson when I was running 150w+70whps and 150w CMH in vert setup. Buds didnt compare to when i moved up to a 250w and I was using less wattage. Like i said coverage and penetration are not the same. You can have a fat weiner thats just doesnt go deep enough to hit that spot. Or, you can have the fat, long weiner and get it where it needs to be haha...
If you buy a 600 and decide to go dual, at least you have 1200w vs 800w, thats like an extra 400w with less heat, wires, duct etc.
Currently, I use 600w in a 36''x36'' and intend to go dual 600w in the future.

hoe the hell do you cool s 36x36 inch cab with dual 600's. I was pumping 72f air threw a cool tube with a 400 watt hps with a 6"vortex pulling threw and I could not keep temps under 80. Are u exhausting outside?
