Heat question 250w HPS vs 400w CFL

A few days ago, I post a query about using CLFs (https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=217340).

I switched out one 125w 6500k CFL for a 200w 2700k CFL (325w CFL total). This produced an increase, by a fairly large amount, of heat at the exhaust port on my cabinet. When I switch to 12/12, I'll being using two 200w 2700k (400w total) lamps.

I prowled the net and some research indicates that a 250w HPS lamp would produce a better bud... better light penetration, etc.

My question(s): How much of a heat difference is there between 400w CFL compared to 250w HPS? More heat from the HPS or the CFL?

Square-footage is ~3 so I'm assuming either would produce nice bud.

i really dont know, but your buds will be bigger, harder, more ripped with hps compared with CFL. If theres more heat, put another extractor right ??

If you can possibly run the 6500K CFL (125 watt) with the 250 watt HPS the total ot 375 watts of heat will be similar to 2 x 200 watts already planned. Heat is heat, dissipates the same. But the full spectrum with the sodium will do wonders for plant health. The plant will still grow tight big buds from the sodium input, but the full spectrum will antidote some of the sodium poisoning that kills chlorophyll. Win-win, the 125w is in hand and the 250w is planned, used together is more than the sum of the parts.

Actually, I'm using a cabinet and the adding a second heat extractor probably wouldn't work - not enough room.

I do like the idea of tighter buds. :)

This is my third cab grow, second set of clones. I totally screwed up on grow #2 (1st set of clones)...slightly over 1 ounce (dried) from four plants. For days, you could walk anywhere in the house and smell ganja. :( I missed a point in the development and allowed the tops to get into the lamps. WOW! What a smell. :)

well northstar1440 your idea is getting too complicated, remember use what you have and keep it simple.the florescent bulbs will provide a full spectrum of light on the other hand if you have the ability to cool the 250 hps it will produce a bigger harvest. So lets break it down if you use the two florescent lamps you will need to add better ventilation= a new more powerful fan.on the other hand if you go with the 250 hps ballast with the air cooled hood you will need a small 4 inch inline fan and some ducting=$250 for the ballast and 6 inch air cooled hood new.A 4inch inline fan is $120 plus you will need a 6inch to 4 inch reducer for around $10 bucks,Finally you will need 25ft of mylar ducting that will cost you around $35 dollars. The total for your new light set up is around$420 bucks well i guess your gonna add more better ventilation fans and keep those cfl lamps till your next grow:)
