MG Brand Organic Soil Amendments?

I

Iron_Lion

Im looking to add some bone meal and blood meal to my soil mix but the only brand I can find locally is Miracle Grow brand bone & blood. It's an hour + drive to the hydro store and I wasn't planning on going out there til the end of next month so a local choice is best right now.

From a moral standpoint I really hate to purchase or use anything made by MG but is there any way this would be worse than other brands?

I notice the NPK on the MG brand bone and blood is a little different than Espoma brand but in theory they should be the same shit?

What about local garden centers and nurseries? If that's what you want to use,and all you can source then it sounds like you don't have a choice.
It's all made from the the same mammals anyway and is probably supplied by a major manufacturer who also supplies other companies as well. That's usually the case, but who knows.

I just bought the MG, it's weird seeing MG brand shit in my grow room but I searched around online and couldnt find anything bad about the MG bone and blood, it says no cow bones are used so that's a plus.

I could have went to a garden center or something even most of those are too far or their selection sucks. Every store I go to I usually check the garden supplies, most places just have MG but I found out lowes has Espoma brand fertilizer but only MG brand bone and blood.

A lot more garden centers nowadays carry more organic amendments than they did a few years ago,you should check them out. They are often lacking in the canna-select organic weed snob items though, but organic gardening is very popular and even squares are looking for blood and bone meal.

i use the MG Bone Meal, it has treated me well
the bone is from pig bones - you can look at this as helping out in getting rid of a waste product that otherwise might end up in some landfill

Lately I have seen organic gardening take a giant leap forward in popularity. About 5 years or so ago when I started growing my first grow was done with junk sourced from home depot and walmart, back then they had no organic fertilizer at all.

Flash forward to today, I found alaska fish emulsion at the hardware store, bone and blood at walmart, and I lowes I found more bone and blood and quite a good selection of Espoma brand fertilizers. So you could grow some pretty good weed without even having to go to hydro stores. I still use a few more pot-snob only ingredients but in a jam it's nice to know I could get stuff at normal stores.

I'm also seeing a lot of run-o-the mill hardware stores like Ace,garden centers, etc. starting to carry Neptune's Harvest fish hydrolysate and also Neptune's acadian kelp extract. Usually costs a lot less than the hydro-store and much better fish product than the Alaskan emulsion.
