i agree smoking is addicting as fuck as a regular smoker and anyone that disagrees is kidding themselves. i'm a daily smoker and find it damn hard to quit. most daily smokers i know agree. i've tried to slow down or take a break several times and fail.

i could get out of dodge and take a vacation away but i wouldn't waste a fucking vacation without weed. sorry.

i just keep smoking. it doesn't hold me back from doing anything i want to. it only enhances my daily life. life is to short to worry about breaks.

mental addiction maybe but it's more about if you feel like you should or shouldn't quit. If you love it and feel great, doesn't mess with your goals, motivation, emotions, etc.. then why say it's an addiction?

If you want to stop and feel you should then you CAN stop. It's like exercising, you may not want to do it but you do it because you set your mind to do it, like giving a shit to wake up every day and brush your teeth. Just do what you want. It may suck for a lil bit but not for too long. IF you enjoy it and everything is ok then just chill it's who you are.

It's good to have self control. I limit myself to 1-2 grams a day but sometimes i go without smoking no problem. You're in control with this herb. With heroin and hard drugs it controls you.

We live in a society that constantly discourages an altered state of mind for some drugs, but not others. Refuse to buy into cannabis predjudices. How is it different than a cup of coffee, or your daily Atavan, or a couple of beers at the end of a long day?

Keep your mind right!

I agree completely. Except I don't drink coffee and rarely drink alcohol. I don't think it is a good think to be under the influence of anything every day (coffee included). But that is just what works for ME. I am a big fan of do what works for you.

I used to smoke daily for a few years, but then I decided to take a break for a while to clear my head out. I found out that I liked the person I was when I wasn't high a lot more. Way more friendly and outgoing and full of energy. Like not able to sit still, which really works for me.

Now I smoke once or twice a week, and usually on weekends and I feel that I can really appreciate the effects more. I am not just getting high another day, I am having an experience. That being said, the main reason I don't smoke every day is because I feel groggy and tired the next morning if I smoke at night. I guess the whole REM sleep thing got in my head.

If I could wake up in the morning feeling as good as I do with not smoking I would probably smoke a lot more often, but I don't think I would ever go back to smoking every day. Like I said, my limited smoking time has really made me appreciate weed that much more.

why do you want to stop smoking ?

someone mentionned 2 reasons to stop

criminal aspect is another

lol I totally understand the... I smoke and then feel bad about it

but.. why do you feel bad about it ?

it's great to hear that there is a lot of people who find it hard to take a break or stop

it's a complicated thing

I will have to stop for school soon, I have only smoked the last month, mainly morrocan hash

my plan is to go to a festival soon (more of a gathering)

trip and smoke my heart out, come back, keep away from smoker friends, get rid of any smoking stuff

I have to say, psychologically addictive for sure

me on day 5 of no smoking, I am back to normal

other then that, I get irritated easily, can feel down, not normal, hot, obsess, have a hard time falling asleep
you have so much energy

because in my mind it's the only way that I will be able to feel the way I feel when I smoke you know

it's not for everyone

and is it the pot or the culture we live in you know..
feeling like a criminal, having stuff to hide, paranoia

I see a lot of bad advise in this thread, and a small amount of good advise.
If your having trouble not smoking and don't need it for a medical reason you need to take a step back and look at yourself. If your attempting to smoke less or take a break it's clear you feel your abusing it to some degree. It's easy to do and happens to the best of us.
I think people just need to be aware that our plant is a very powerful substance and as much as it's a harmless natural herb,it's also a potentially dangerous drug when misused and not properly respected. It also effects each of us in different ways.
My advise is to step up your will power. It's as simple as making a conscious decision to not smoke for a few days and actually do it.

As long as I respect the tree of life I cannot abuse the tree of life. Use as needed. Need is something you yourself cannot dictate, nor society. So don't lay a guilt trip on yourself for existing in the human condition... negativity is what leads you to overdoing it in the first place, so cut that cycle.

My thoughts exactly

just decide your gonna take a break and then you just have to persevere

I am now 48 hours without smoking , gonna take a long break cuz i need to get my short term memory back in order as i am going for a job where i need my short term memory

No more breaking backs in the mill for me

The only discomfort is that i sweat a bit and the first three nights i dont sleep much. After that i actually sleep better

Oh and i feel like i just had a gallon of coffee al the time :D just hyper active full of energy(one of the reasons i use pot is to slow me down as naturally i am just like someone who had speed )

well me it's 2 days that I have not smoked

stopping for school

can't see myself smoking with school and work

smoking can wait, need to work on my future

yesterday I couldn't sleep, I feel asleep at like 5 am
freaking ridiculous

I have a feeling it's gonna be same thing today

also, I had a dream this morning, it's been a while since I haven't dreamt

stopping smoking is not easy
but when you say, this is it... it's power. if you really want to stop, you can

I dunno you guys but.. me I don't want to let myself down
it would be ridiculous if I could not stop smoking

i've been also feeling not too good, blame it on the not smoking
really twisted

just a couple of days and I will feel better

also I just caught a cold/virus

incredible head pains, clogged/runny nose, huge lack of energy

quite a battle

Grow Clean.... Go Fast!
You have to get the F outta dodge... go on a weekend trip to the country, or plan for a serious vacation

also i find that when i get back, if gone for a couple weeks that avoiding smoking the first or couple nights back is doable

after that you surcome to the desire, which is all it is. but the stresses of life i find help that desire along...

I hear ya I am not a heavy drinker or nicotine addict either but mj is good stuff

Yup.... Agree with all the above. If you need to, try kicking the habitat, not the habit...

IT IS F***ING EASY. Because no MJ around, not for even sale on streets. Nada. Not even soapbar. I have extra cash laying around and just have to sit and wait own grow to finish. It is damn long 8 weeks.

Problem just is, that I didn't want to quit smoking, especially now, when I am back in work. After work it is horrible to calm and relax when there is nothing except alcohol available. And for sleeping aid you get from doctor some psychosis medicine(!), which zombifies you until next 16 hours. Doctors here thinks that everybody misuse sedatives, so they don't prescribe those anymore easily. Unless you are 70 year old. Actually it is partly true, because real and good drugs are hard to get, people have to settle whatever they got they hands on. Sniffing glue and inhaling butane are again 'HOT' around here.

Going for holiday is good advice, when you are not around in environment, where you smoke, it is easier to forget MJ.

I will give another suggestion which I didn't find in the posts above:

Smoke bud with less tiring, addicting and tolerance building cannabinoids, and by this I mean smoke sativas. They may not hit as hard, but they will consistently make you happy in the long run.

I used to smoke a lot of indica (and hybrids) and I used to find it hard not to smoke - insomnia, total lack of apetite, sweating.
Then, when I started growing my own, I started smoking only quite pure sativas and found out that it's MUCH easier to control. Now I smoke every day from morning till night and I don't feel burnt out in the middle of the day, I don't have problems with stopping for a few days (I have to do it because of business trips abroad) and in general all negative effects I associate with smoking are much much less pronounced.
Avoid hash and oil too because even when made from sativas, the THC degrades too fast in them, and you are smoking a lot of CBN.

I know that many people like the effects of indica but these people should keep in mind that more is not always better and that weed only helps you feel high, but doesn't do it all by itself. Seems like the indica stone obscures this truth.

Good luck and happy smoking! :)
