To the OP:
If you quit "cold-turkey" expect some rather vivid dreams. (JMHE)

I just recently ran out, and this is the biggest problem for me. I have vivid nightmares every night, which makes me try to avoid sleeping. I mean, best friends getting run over by busses and torn apart by wild animals kind of f'ed up vivid nightmares.

That, and during the day I'll ocassionally have to fight back bouts of intense anger. Let's call it rage. Usually, I'm solid, and that might be the weed helping me, and I'm just reverting to angry chimpanse alpha staturing. Either that, or a latent desire to rid this world of all the stupid fuckers out there.

Withdrawl symptoms - Insomnia, nightmares, and some rage. Still 100x better than trying to quit cigarettes. Or even coffee.

Man, if you gotta quit then just tough it out and do it. There isn't any other way. It's either I smoke or I don't. No other way around it.

I quit smoking cigs two days ago, for the third time. I've quit twice before, 6 months each time. This time I intend to make it stick, but it will be a challenge because I really love smoking. I've got the herb, but I need to learn to moderate my intake of that, too. What can I do, I love smoking. In the past I've found the hookah to be a nice substitute. You get flavors and a nice burn, and it's nicotine free. For me the hardest thing about quitting is the nostalgia. I miss the ritual.

the way I took a long break...

well I felt I needed it, because I started getting hot in the face

paranoia/causing me a lot of anguish because I felt I was hiding something

even, if I did not have a moral problem with it, I knew others did

you know criminal factor

I took a weeklong trip... no herb

detoxed that way

on day 5 of no smoking is when I felt.... okay again

before day 5, it's like, I was very easy to anger

other then that

I bought a 10 season box set of a show I liked very much

that helped me a lot, with the times where I felt like doing nothing (except smoking)

so eventually the urge to smoke left and you know

also I stopped for school

ask yourself why you want to take a break

is it really important to you ?

I've only quit the weed twice successfully, and both times were mandatory for probation..After a few weeks i didn't have a care in the world for weed, and it was all i thought about every day before quitting, kinda strange..
I've tried to quit a few times recently. My weakness is after a long day, it's so hard to resist when you've got mason jars filled of dank and your bong right in front of you. If i don't smoke then i'll be thinking about smoking and checking out the buds periodically until i snap and pack a bowl in the bong..

Rule #1 for giving up weed: Get rid of your weed. Its 100x easier to give up if there is physically no weed to be smoked at your place. When i've gone travelling overseas in the past i've always gone cold turkey and i've never even noticed i wasn't toking, and i'm sure its because there is no weed around for temptation. I've tried giving up with weed around and everytime i ended up smoking it.

I've given up a few times for various reasons, last time was because of an upcoming drug test. The first night is the hardest! I sleep maybe a couple of hours and feel quite stressed. Every night afterwards gets easier and after a week there are no more stress problems. You still miss it but it ain't no thang, being around other people toking is no problem. That was my experience last year anyway when i went cold turkey for 5 weeks, and i'd been a daily toker for 10+ years. Music and tv are a lot less interesting while you're straight.

Someone above mentioned vivid dreams after giving up, i'm the same except i don't dream at all when i'm a toker. I only remember dreams if i've been straight for a couple of days, then i get several a night after that.

Been mentioned earlier but when I was in that situation (smoking too much BHO on a daily basis)about a year ago I started hitting the gym hard and it's the only thing that got me by. Expending energy on cardio, stretching, flushing your body with lots of water, and lifting weights gave/gives me a satisfying physical feeling that was able to replace not smoking for a while.

Oh yeah, as someone mentioned get rid of all your weed!

After a few months I felt like a million bucks, stick with the gym now, and nowadays am way better at still working out, coming home to get high, but not needing to be megabaked with every bit of downtime I have.

In my opinion you don´t need a break you just need to find more interesting stuff to do than smoking all day long ;)
As been 25 years now as a daily smoker and only respiratory problems or other health problems kept me from my daily THC dosage.
Sometimes people tend to blame weed smoking for their life situation and ii find that many times the root of the problem is nowhere near the smoking pot act.
I am not saying that this is your situation in any way just mentioning it.
If you really want to stop just give your stash away and stay far from your weed friends.
All the best for yoú

I with you on this westg.. I want to slow down because of the fact I find it difficult to slow down lol.. But it is hard.

I'm trying to keep it at 0.5g a day. Ugh saying that makes me shiver. It always ends up being like 1-1.5g per day. I usually smoke about 2.5g per day give or take a little.

Staying busy definitely helps.. But then I also like to smoke while I'm busy haha. Oh man..

Gonna have to agree with B.Friendly on this one, only time I have taken a serious break without it being an issue is on vacation.

Went to Europe for a month without any smoke, didn't mind.

Went to Thailand for a month without any smoke, didn't mind.

Went to Yellowstone for a month without any smoke, didn't mind.

But trying to chill at home without smoking is some cruel and unusual punishment.

I think it's important to question why it's important to slow down. Is it causing harm to you(other than financial)? Is it an internal or external influence? I smoke exactly as much as I want to. No more, no less. Except when I run out.

You need to do what's good for you, and no one else. If you need to quit, then do it. Just understand the reason. If weed makes you feel good, then that's a good thing. Weigh the pros and cons, and come up with your own decission. We live in a society that constantly discourages an altered state of mind for some drugs, but not others. Refuse to buy into cannabis predjudices. How is it different than a cup of coffee, or your daily Atavan, or a couple of beers at the end of a long day?

Keep your mind right!

Yeah I get what you're saying but it's not an outside influence. I just get a bit concerned when I say to myself "I don't need to smoke to go to the store." But then I do anyways. It's not that I can't stop/take a break. I can. It is just that I don't want to, but I do want to at the same time lol. I don't drink coffee or take any other pills. I rarely will take aleve for a headache. I eat chocolate before/during exams though.

I've never been dependent on anything until several years ago when I started smoking. I was immediately smoking everyday. And now I'm wondering if I need to be smoking in the morning, day, evening, and night.

Weed does make me feel good. But it can also make me feel REALLY tired in the middle of the day if I don't have much to do or of its tough to get started.

Preferably I would be smoking in the evening/nighttime. I think it would be a good balance to execute work during the day and relax at night. But I always end up smoking in the morning/day. Because I think to myself, what is the problem with it? None.. I want it, it makes me feel good and clear headed.. But I feel its more of a craving.

This is the other reason I want to take a break is so I can get another perspective. Look at the situation from a bit of a different angle.
