Reason for foxtails!?!

These Spicy Cheese F1 flowers were cultivated in a greenhouse from March to June ,, so only mild temps,, 20-28c average. After 5-6 weeks of 12/12 the tops of each cola started to race away into fox-tails,,

... we thought it was purely genetic.. but the last few weeks of flowering were naturally warmer.

Edit:

Here's a photo of the Blues clone grown indoors by CB,, fox-tailing as a result of slight heat-stress

Note : When the fan-leaf curl upwards , then it's normally a clear indication of heat-stress being the culprit. The leaves are literally curling up to collect available water as it drops from the sky.

Conversely,, with over-watered and cold plants ,, the leaves droop downwards.

Hope this helps

yup .. my whole harvest this time had foxtails & light airy buds cuz of heat stress . i wasn't set up for the heat this year as i thought i was (new place new room ) my sour D was the worst effected cuz of her bieng a sativa , also had a silver haze in but she just didn't fatten up or get as dense as she should have no foxtails though . so yeah heat stress plays a major roll in foxtailing .

growem green & stay safe ...Dans

Too much superthrive in flower and heat will cause foxtailing, I'm sure of that much. Superthrive is some powerful shit!

I'd also like to add that Triacontanol works better the hotter it is.. So a hot spot under a lamp would foxtail more due to more heat.

My first indoor run I had OG Kush and Sour Diesel that foxtailed towards the end just like in some of these pictures. I was told that not backing off on the CO2 in flower could cause this. Now I back off to about 600 ppm the second half of flower and it has never happenend again.

Not to beat a dead horse on a very old thread but, I think anything with SD in it seems to be very susceptible to FT. I've been dealing with it of varying degrees for some time now with SD and just now realized that my lights were too close. Never had an issue of TOO MUCH light before, even with high Sativa strains like SSH.
Next time, I will back off on the distance, and see what happens. Other Blue Rhino in same system sees no issues whatever.

I was unable to go a complete run without the SD going crazy with foxtails. This time, I backed the lights waaay off, and bingo, no problems at all!

Wouldn't 'too much light' actually result in too much heat, particularly near the tops? IOW, while room air temps in general might not necessarily be read as too hot, a spot temp reading right near the top might be quite a bit higher.

IMO it's both envionmental and genetic. It also depends on what you actually consider a foxtail. I like the term I've heard as dreading for the genetic varieties as they can remind you of dreadlocks. It seems to be very prevalent in strains such as Johnny Blaze, Chimera's Highland Mexican x Blueberry, and pheno dependant in Subfools Plushberry. Thai's also have a tendency to grow very dready.

Peace,

Quite alot of pk boosters cause foxtails. House and garden shooting powder makes buds dread out alot but adds weight aswell.
