Flowering my Afghan Diesel

another point to think about is, how big you gonna grow your plants. my set up are mostly sog style so plants don't get that big. if growing bigger plants it's also possible to give each plant 2 drip lines, will speed up the watering a bit and is a good insurance against the odd blockage occurring.

I do not want plants over 3 1/2 feet ideally. 4' max may happen on accident. I saw you say before adding a line is ok, but moving a line in a pot during flowering is not. So I will keep this in mind definitely. I never thought about doing it as an insurance against blockage so most likely I will add 2 to every pot as standard now. Got my 55 gal drum now just need to order pump and get the other mats.

Hey....

This will be a great report....I love your grow style......:tiphat:
but i can't understand why are you using a recirculation system.... I thought Coco is designed for d2W.....
Afghan Diesel sounds really interesting....so sad that i couldn't taste her on 420.....:ying::ying:

hey and welcome Cannanatics,

i do hope you turn out to be right about a great report, we will have to wait and see :)

the reason i run my coco setup with recirculating nutrient solution is because that's how i got introduced to growing in coco slabs years ago, with time i fine tuned things so well that i didn't find any benefits in throwing away the return, years later when canna started recommending run to waste. after a few test runs i put my system back to recirculating, specially when the tables are not more then 5 meters long. in the really big rooms, it can get hard to keep ec levels perfect so throwing the return can be easier. but for me in the smaller set ups, it makes no difference. the only times i throw away the return is if i fucked up somehow and need to flush, or at the end when i want to flush the medium in preparation for harvest. for that situation i just add a piece of pipe to the drain and lead the return to a secondary tank to be chucked out.

Update Day 11 of 12/12

ph 5.8 ec 1.6 watering 2x during lights 3 minutes on, with Sundays no watering at all. normally water 3 times every day, but you have to try things out once in a while.

well day 14 of 12/12 has come and gone, so they now have a net over them to help support the tops. with this style of growing where you hardly veg the plants, it's very important to have suport netting. otherwise the plant will be wasting all it's energy on trying to keep the stem strong enough to support the buds, in the end they fall over anyway and all that stops them smoothly reaching their full potential. still one or 2 holes visible in the canapy, but they are slowly filling up the space.

the plants fan leaves are showing signs of hunger, but i want them to be a bit hungry, have a feeling the buds will be bigger if i don't over do it with nutes, so i'm setting the new tank ec at 1.5 having used my generic boost, generic zym, pk 13/14 at 1/3rd dose plus coco A+B, ph at 5.8

when my tank is empty and gets a refill i always let the pump run for a bit at a low ec with just the additives and enough a+b to make ec 1.0 or 1.1

might get the final phase product to try out this round, just to see what it's all about. we will see.

day 18 of 12/12

ec 1.6
ph 5.9

they seems to be coming along well so far. just hope the heat stays within limits so they can finish in peace. put a net down a few days ago so they can worry about getting fat and forget about the stems keeping up. hehe.

growing 3 new strains for testing in here next run. so next run will be happy brother, souramnesia and ghs fem exodus cheese.

anyway here the pics:

still some space where you can see down to the slabs, but this will fill up more and some light getting down there will only help make nicer buds lower down the plants as well as the colas.

thanks jumanji2,

about another 30 days i imagine. not longer then that anyway, she can look ready before that sometimes, will make the final call by the state of the trichome heads. unless some other reason pops up to harvest earlier. but normally speaking i like to let the pants get over ripe a bit.

day 33 of 12/12
PH: 5.9
EC: 1.4

as you can see i'm running them hungry and it's telling on the fan leaves of most of them. but the buds are looking good so far, nearly time for the pk 13/13. as i'm not after harvesting fan leaves they can get a bit yellow, as long as the colas get fat, lol.

i really have to catch them before lights on again one of these days,
to get some nice shots without the hps glare.

i mucked around with the color etc settings on this one, the glare was worse lol.

Nice update.

yeah the buds are not bad, but like i said i'm still dialing this strain in. this round i seem to have underfed them a bit. last time i over fed them. so next time i should get it just right, lol. lets hope they keep getting fat....

Not sure how this one slipped my radar.... must be on the blink :D

Looking good GM always great to see your slab grows, missed the larger table you used to run so well, but glad there's another in it's place at least :) I remember watching the first sd x cj run you did and there were some spectacular ladies amongst them.... This one sound very nice with a quick finish and lots of stretch during first couple of weeks 12/12 sounds perfect for SOG. Looks like a winner to, with those genetics it's not to be a winner!

What's in this generic boost the mate? Seaweed/ molasses based?

so you found my newest slab thread eh? nice one, always glad to get feedback.

yeah i could still kick myself for not keeping clones at the begining of those SDxCJ ladies. the first batch had a couple of phenos i didn't find the second time i grew some of those seeds out. the one i did get again was the pheno 5 of that grow, it's now labeled Afghan Diesel. which is whats running in here. i will grow out some more of those seeds in the hope of finding more interesting phenos. but for now i have this one and the new pheno 5, which is diesel skunky pheno that makes nice yields and gives a real nice smoke. one of the best tasting and hitting phenos from the second round was the pheno 3, but it has hermy problems, so a pain to flower out.

but right now i'm vegging out some HappyBrother from Karma Genetics, some SourAmnesia from Hortilabs and some Fem GHS exodus Cheese. so the SDxCJ seeds will have to wait. Killerqueen redux will be the next seeds i pop.

yeah i had to scale down a bit. i also feel more comfortable posting grows in this set up. it's perfect size for test grows for finding keepers.

I hear ya mate ;) nice to sleep easy lol. You never said what was in that generic boost of yours... I'm definitely going back to slabs myself. Have been using compost for a bit now for the ease and flexibility but veg time and yield suck, well yield doesn't suck so much but I know it could be soooo much better using coco as before. Probably have one for after summer when it cools down again and my jars are running dry :)

if my luck had been a bit better i'd have been able to smoke you out with some of this bud. was so pissed that my stash never made it to the 420. let me get a pic of the old harvest of my Afghan Diesel up to show what he buds look like.

this is one cola from the mother when i flowered her out replacing the mum with a clone of her.

Are those Coco bags that you grow in a one time thing, or do you reuse them for your next grow?

How many plants are there and how big is your space? How come you are not using maylar instead of a white wall. Would you not get better yield if there was maylar on the wall?
