Are the high priced seed strains worth it?

Some perspective......

Some perspective......

To put it in perspective, today I had to pay $11.95 for two crappy, white bread tuna sandwiches and a cup of coffee.

Makes a $100 pack of seeds seem like a bargain.

My experience... and I havent grown anything more expensive then a hundred bucks, but won seeds and been gifted seeds that go upward of 300-400 a pack... Is that its all about luck. Ive had great results from seeds of chocolate rain, herijuana, and a couple others that only costed bout 40 bucks a pack. Lets not forget cannacopias deep chunk crosses and lapis mountain, pure fire for dirt cheap. Then I had bad experiences, like everything I got from mandala was some hermi crap or ok bud at best. out of the expsensive seeds ive grown out they have been on the same level as san-something-E's and cannacopia. Matter fact I got some 140 dollar seeds from BCBD tho and they were garbage. Id say look for a strain description that suites the kind of weeds your looking for, then research the strain in the forums, and if u like what u find go for it.
Like you said its subjective. for me? No. . . .... Unless I see something exotic I really wanna try, then Ima get it, but most likely I find what Im looking for without spending too much. Got too many damn seeds in my fridge already, too many to grow out in my lifetime unless I get a fat ass house with some acres of land.

Oscar Wilde said the following: "A cynic knows the price of everything but the value of nothing."

With all due respect to D.S. Toker and others, same can be said here; there are those that equate superior genetics with only the elite companies. For anyone that knows anything about cannabis, that is pure horse****.

Several of Gypsy's vendors sell excellent seeds for less than $10/seed. My personal experiences with lower priced seeds sold by Gypsy include Nirvana and Cannacopia. Both offer high quality genetics at reasonable prices. I not a cheapskate because I also have experiences with several of the higher dollar brands as well.

But you don't need to believe me; do a search on this website.

I wasnt aware that Oscar was a pot grower moondoggie! Ha, just teasin.

Ive come to the conclusions i have about seeds after buying and growing out(outdoors) so many from so many companies. Ive been through about 8 nirvana strains and several of Gypsy's newer vendors. I found a bunch of mediocre moondoogie. Add to that genetic weakness, weak branches, bug magnets and a host of other problems. Canacopia uses Deep chunk in its crosses and DC passes on genetic weakness to any plant its crossed with and that makes it very difficult to grow outdoors .

I would pay $300 for Jack herrer and feel like i got a good deal. The same with NL5Xhaze or Mr. Nice's SSH. Sensi star is worth whatever theyre charging for it, so is Maple leaf indica.
Kali mist, Sensitron, Nyc Diesel, of all ive grown, there arent many that stood out but the ones that did are worth paying for.

But im not rigid in that belief. There is an american boy that sells seeds for 55 bucks. He's collected exquiste moms over the past 20 years and sells f'2 and his crosses with them and a couple of them are worth far more than 55 dollars. There are probably a few others, but he's the only one i know of.

Only if it is a proven winner
if never entered in a competition then what is the breeder bragging about

honestly, some of these so called legends need to be put to the test

and by now there are the AK47 of the world that deserve the money asked for, in fact Serious Seeds charges much less than say Rez who has only won via someone popping his seeds, has Rez ever personally entered his shit, personally grown
cuz Serious Seeds has, so has GHS and many many more

personally the quality of seed and grower need to be tested if you are going to ask over $100 !!!!!!!!!

A simple questions which I know the answer is subjective but want to know if you think that the high, taste, yield or any other attribute a plant can have is "bette" than say a mid priced strain?

I have been at the mid price point for a while and see some strains I'd like to try at those higher price points and I ask myself is a $300/10 seed strain that much better than a 75/10 seed strain? Opinions?

Like mentioned before, it really depends on what you are loking for. I can vouch for the fact that some seeds are a ripoff but most of the higher priced seeds are priced as such for a reason. If you are serious about your herb stash, chances are you will pony up for decent strains.

I have had great plants come from expensive seeds and cheap (even free) seeds.

Grow em all and pick the one youlike the best.

D.S. Toker, MD:

No disagreements here; as always, choices typically revolve around personal preferences including established biases.

I think Oscar W's point was that we need to remain open-minded about our choices, and don't evaluate our selections solely on price.

The legendary outdoor grower, Silverback, regularly tested both high-dollar and dollar-challenged strains. His favorite strains included Sensi's Maple Leaf Indica, but also Nirvana's Aurora Indica. I just hope I can remain as impartial as he was with my selections.

Much respect.....

I don't want to name a seed provider that may not be a supporter of this forum but I ride a HD and Dutch Passion has a few strains in that area.

I just looked, and there highest is flo fem at 190. that's not reaching 300.

maybe you are looking at Canada companies that don't exchange the rate when doing american dollar? as I see some Canada companies like to overcharge, but that's not what I would call the price of the seed, if you can get them many other places for cheaper.
