Hey all,

Curious what you all do in regards to protecting our 2nd amendment rights.

We all know that guns in the grow house are a big No No and will most certainly lead to additional charges and mandatory minimum sentencing. For that reason I've made it a strict point to keep firearms out of my home. If they come to get me they'll only have my big scary garden. A lot of people argue this, but its really the difference between probation and doin' time - at least around these parts.

Due to the uncertainty of our current economy I've been getting more and more into extended food storage/water supply and other preparations should things get really crazy in the US. It'd be nice to have a firearm in the house for self defense, but the risk just doesn't outweigh the reward (right now). I have other means of defence/deterrent when it comes to someone breaking in. I more-less want some firearms should some crazy event unfold where it is needed quickly or the government ever tries to take those rights away from us.

In terms of mandatory minimums with a firearm in the grow house - does that only apply to guns themselves or would they also give harder charges if they found a bit of ammo, but no guns on hand.

Just curious what all of your thoughts are on guns/ammo as a grower. I dont want to give up my 2nd amendment right, but I surely dont want to get the book tossed at me in the event of a bust. Having a friend hang onto some firearms is the only thing I can really think of, but would still like to have a bit of ammo in my own home.

I would never keep a gun in my home as a grower until I read this one day here on icmag:

"I would rather do two years in prison then be dead"

I went out and purchased my Springfield XDM .45 that week. It is sitting on a shelf under my mousepad, ready to grab at a moments notcie. At night, it goes to my bed stand. I would rather do two years then feel helpless and put my life in others hands. Shootin to kill here. Will be getting a concealed weapons permit soon, because I don't trust all these grubby scrubs out on the streets. Can't stand in a line at the local party store without missing my .45.

2 years in prison is much better then being dead, or watching someone you love get killed. Feeling powerless is not on my list of things to do. Firearms are for protection, they will do you no good at your friends house.

if they was ready available and it wasn't such a bad arrest here i would have a gun... if someone broke in my house i would shoot to kill.... not because of the weed, money, jewellery or any personal belongings but just the fact that if my Mrs was hurt i could never forgive my self for not protecting her...

Depends on your state, but i know in california under state law the firearm enhancement law only applies if the firearm is on your possession or "within accesible distance" or something like that.........You should buy some guns, i keep a glock at my growhouse but its on a totally different floor and part of the house and its hidden, kind of gambling with that but i know specific cases where friends were busted growing and had guns and the charges did not stick because they were stashed away out of reach, they might throw it on the charges list to put pressure but a good lawyer can weasel out of that one, unless you have previous felonys for posssession of a firearm.....if you are paranoid about the extra years in prison dont store them at your grow house....rent a storage unit outside of town, stash them at your parents house, girlfriends house, brothers house, or maybe bury them or hide them in your drywall or something like that, i im fairly confident i could bury a gun or two in my backyard or under the deck and the cops wouldnt find it, wrap in it vacseal bag so dogs cant smell the gunpowder residue..... according to a few lawyer websites i just checked out...they say

"Your sentence in these felony weapons charges depends on several things including:

* What the weapon was
* How it was used
* Your criminal history
* If the weapon was concealed

A judge will take all of the specifics of your case into consideration when determining a sentence"

if you are a first timer i wouldnt worry too much...i have friends who got caught pointing guns at people, shooting off rounds, and 1st time offender you get off light, revoked gun rights, house arrest or probation. now if you're selling crackrock and have an illegal ak-47 sitting next to your piles of rock and cash, thats a little different than a 1st timer getting caught with his own legally registered gun and some weed...

ammo will be valuable tradeable currency if the dollar ever goes to shit. i have at least 5k worth of .223 and another couple thousand rounds of .40 caliber and .308 caliber stashed away in a storage unit....im not sure of the specific laws about ammunition and grows, someone should check into that...i dont keep any gun shit at my g-house, just a legally registered pistol with 1 magazine of ammo in case of a break-in.....also unless the intruder is already inside of your house i would not shoot to kill, draw on them and verbally announce the weapon or fire a warning shot and they will be ghost....friends warehouse had an attempted break-in last month, he sprayed a .22 caliber down at the door while they were trying to crowbar in, luckily he didnt hit anyone because a dead body outside of that warehouse and i wont have any GDP for months lol......luckily cops never came and robbers probably wont be back...

i just signed paperwork on a new 1911 in .45acp so thats another round i have to start stockpiling....she will probably go into storage when not in use though..

My only concern would be for the mrs.

As far as I know ammo is only bad if you are a prior convicted felon and it is then considered the same as having a gun, in a grow the guns are the big no no. Just because you have ammo at a grow where you live is not any evidence of firearm possession. I am not a lawyer so please consult one for your specific state laws but this is the way I have understood it for a long time now. Some states also distinguish between simply possessing one and the actual "constructive possession" of a gun during the commission of a crime. If you absolutley have to have one at your grow it damn sure better be unloaded and locked up away from it preferably in a gun safe. Of course a gun isn't really worth shit to you in that scenario if you cannot immediately access it but that's what big cans of pepper spray or bear mace are for with a baseball bat & glove close by because you love baseball. :)

A good guard dog goes a long way too as well as keeping your doors locked with a deadbolt at all times which is something that often get's overlooked until it's too late. Tasers are pretty bad ass, ninja swords, crossbows, anything but a gun because they will bend you over the fire if they catch you with it and a grow. For the record I love guns and very much support our rights to self defense & their ownership. :canabis:

Interesting mention is that if you have alot of plants and catch a federal charge with a GUN involved then you are automatically excluded from getting a reduced sentence under the federal safety valve program which could most likely apply to you if you have not been in trouble previously. Then on top of that there are increased mandatory minimums for the gun being there. Not a joke, serious shit. Put the guns somewhere else is my advice! :good:

Reality is you would never get to that gun in time unless you saw someone lurking around outside and then if you shot them after the fact it would be premeditated murder potentially and at least manslaughter, well at least here in Cali it would be. If you were in Texas you would be a hero :)

If they just came in unexpectedly you would not have time or state of mind to properly react 9 times out of 10 unless you were already carrying on your person and had been properly trained in high stress scenarios. I have been in a home invasion back up north and everything you think you are going to do or say takes a backseat to reality.

My Bulldog would worn me of any noise. Once im up im packing. all I need to do is wait for them to come on in.

I can also open the safe at Night. It's right next to the bed. I would not have any problems killing someone

OP is talking about storing ammo/guns as a means of currensy/value...i used to have a big mentality about STK if someone broke in here, if the intruder is ALREADY INSIDE YOUR HOUSE yes, shoot to mother fuckin kill! but in my situation the dog would probably first alert, then the intruders would need to crowbar or break through my multiple security layers somehow, and i would be watching them on CCTV....

i would have the glock ready to go, but when you look at the scope of things...MAINTAINING SECURITY AND SECRECY of your grow is big priority, also staying out of court and not having my grow discovered while police process a murder scene is not something i want.... so anything you can do to dissuade the fuckheads before they even break in is better, like my friend shooting the 22 at the door to scare them off....bunt dont get me wrong at all, if they are already in the house i am putting a few hollow points center mass and im damn sure gonna end their lives because i dont want a wounded mother fucker in court testifying against me....

i would much rather maintain my grow than have a dead body i gota worry about stuffing into a rubbermaid...or the possible murder charges..

also, there was a recent court case here in california, where a guy shot rippers stealing his marijuana plants...hes now facing murder charges because the ripper was facing away from him... we live in commiefornia, where criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens......unless the intruder is already inside your house or your life is in immediate danger you cannot shoot him....scare the fuckers off so you can grow another day...invest in layers of security so you dont need to worry about grabbing the pistol in last resort...dog+camera+bumproof locks+multiple deadbolts+and 1 way screwed window gaurds means i can sit back and drink a beer while i watch the dumb fucks try to break in..

also the OP is talking about having guns there for long term survival, etc....my ar15 has no place at my grow...if SHTF and zombies or the chinese invade, il be packed up and smashing over to the stash spot for the big guns..but no need for them now, an ar15 would blow rounds into my neighbors house and probably kill a small kid or something....

thats why i simply keep a small compact .40 caliber hidden but easily accesible, thats enough for last resort self defense...

man all i can say is california is FUCKED UP!
if your gonna own guns you should feel safe with them on/in your own property!!!
that would be the day i would live somewhere that you can't protect yourself for fear of being locked up!!

I have several firearms placed about the house. All fully loaded and one in the pipe. Anyone enters my home without my permission, they become a bag of Jello. Don't give a fack who it is. My home, my rules.

If you live an intelligent lifestyle and don't go around selling dime backs to every half-wit GED recipient in town, put up a good front to society at-large, and live in a good neighborhood, your odds of getting robbed in your home are roughly 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%. Especially with the NRA stickers on my truck.

Your odds of being raided for a pot garden are a few hundred times higher. Doing the math, some people, who don't currently have heat on them and keep a low profile, think it's more intelligent to keep ammo and guns at another location.

I share your fear of being a victim to some idiot. I wish I could have guns in the home, and I respect your decision to do so. But it's not a simple 1:1 here, by any means.

OP: Per my attorney in Colorado, ammo is fine.

Okay but I just have to go back a page and say the ar-15 with it's high velocity lightweight .223 ammo is not going to hit the neighbors house. It's going to fragment and pitch & yaw in the first wall or barrier it encounters and is exactly why LEO chooses it for close quarters urban warfare because it is one of the least likely rounds to overpenetrate barriers but don't get me started on ballistics ;)

The heavy high velocity .40 S&W round is going to go through rooms and hit the innocent kids next store way before a .223 is and that big open hollow point is going to be useless for stoppage in a barrier when it's clogged up with insulation & drywall then effectively turning it into some kick ass heavy grain ball ammo that WILL go clear through walls.

Hollowpoints normally work much better in soft targets like flesh for instance so don't miss.:)

Best bet for home defense if you just don't give a fuck is a 12 or 20 gauge pump or semi-auto shotgun loaded with 3" buckshot it's the ultimate weapon for close quarters self defense situations and is not going to hit the neighbors house or kids 2 rooms over. Very hard to miss with a shotgun also and the mere sound of a round being chambered is enough to make someone shit their pants on site. :joint:
