Top dressing nutes only...

I've got an organic guerilla grow coming along nicely now using the LC#1 mix with guanos mixed in. The biggest problem I have come across using this soil for guerilla is starting new plants. I don't have any space to veg indoors anymore, so I'm going to be starting a ton of seeds outdoors soon and I want to avoid any transplanting. So for this to work I'll need a very light soil mix that I can later add nutes to. But I need the nutes to be quick-acting because I'm growing AFs and their cycle is very short.

I'm thinking I could do this with with a bag of ProMix Ultimate Organic, and after a few weeks of vegging for the seedlings, top dress with guanos and feed a couple times with guano tea. What kind of results would I get by feeding only through top-dressing?

I've started seeds in the guano fortified version of LC's #1 and they grew fine. The other options would be to mix your LC's mix (or ProMix) with local soil or to look into fermented plant extracts (see the sticky). You could probably start brewing some of these near your spots when you plant or thereafter, timed so that there were ready when you wanted to use them.

Maybe use a solo cup with the mix with no nutes and make a big hole on the bottom of that cup and put that on top of the other soil and plant the seedlins inside the solo cups... That way the roots grow a bit before hittin the hot soil.

Good luck!

In honor of natural gardening I'm inclined to say that birds poop out ....well, poop or guano along with many seeds quite often. I think nature has perfected this delivery quite well. That said; I think they should be fine as long as it's guanos and not straight salts the roots are bumpin into. Then again; nature is cruel and we don't really wanna stress the 'survival of fittest' code when plants and time matter.

On a side note; I wonder how the shotglass competition would pan out with shot glass sized smartpots.

it is perfect this way and you will get a very good result with top dressing only

when you topdress cover your dried shit with soil or compost or something so they can continue to fermentate and dont dry out so quickly

Shit I can't believe I haven't thought about those. How long do peat pots last before they breakdown and let roots through?

I guess it would depend on the moisture level, and how aggressive the roots are. And a healthy plant can have some aggressive roots for sure...........scrappy

I use #3 jiffy pots (3in pot) and have roots popping out rather quickly. I know they make bigger jiffy pots, like 5 or 6 inches, so that will give you a little more time before roots break through.

i preferr to take a stick and stick it as deep as possible. the remove stick and fill with your fert of choice. you can do this in several areas around plant. but top dressing works ok
