I would keep it, but when they did realise their fuck up, the company would retrace their steps and check security cameras etc (near an ATM, most likely CCTV around) and see you picking up and walking away with the bag of cash

17k not worth the hassle if they finally caught up with you really

like the guy in the article, you would have to live with that all of your days...budget that kind of torturous lament.

...brings to mind the time a Las Vegas detective stopped at my house and informed me he had spotted my growth from the road...he was an ok Joe!

OK Joes are real people, not out of some flight of fancy, and make life worthwhile.

The money wasn't his and he did the right thing by returning it. The Loomis Co. should give the man an reward for being an honest person. Karma will surly win out in this mans life. Perhaps he'll catch the lottery or something.

one thing that I read at the end of that page

"He has been coming in for years, always orders the same thing, very nice guy," Santillan said. "It's hard to find people like that, honest people."

reading that again

it's hard to find people like that, honest people

really makes me ponder..

this would mean the majority of people out there are dishonest

Given the times we're in, there's no doubt I'd make a blur trail with the $. And I would spit on the morality issue of it too!

Yeah that poor guy definitely did the right thing... He can now go back to his minimum wage job and be relieved that such a great honest loving people-come-first corporation CHASE got their pocket change, I mean 17g's back...

I'm only serious when I say 'poor guy'. Too bad, he could have possibly changed his life around. Maybe 'god' left the bag there as a reward for his life long honesty.

return..
it's the right thing to do..
so many people justify doing the wrong thing in so many ways...

in life it's always best to take 10 seconds and ask oneself "what is the right thing to do"
not to take those same 10 seconds to try to justify doing the wrong thing.

back in the late 70s a man in NYC found 2 bags of money that had fallen off the back of an armored Brinks truck, he turned it in. Both bags contained untraceable old currency that's separated to be destroyed, in other words old nonsequential bills ~ $549,000 worth of it. Obviously he turned it in or I couldn't be telling this story.

Brinks offered him a paltry $5,000 reward & a job offer, he refused both while claiming "I'll think twice about returning the money the next time this happens again......."

yeah right pal, better luck next time.

After all the fucking robbery the Copro-Nazis perpetrate on the general populace, keeping what amounts to an ant's fart worth of cash (to them) is not bad karma IMHO....far from it

I would have returned it, unless I realized that it was corporate (and therefore an insurance company's) money. Even if caught on camera, what can they do? I found money on the ground, and I kept it. Mine now bitches.
