What's new

Florida to drug test Welfare recipiients.

People on welfare are like maggots on shit. They will keep growing and growing and eventually they will fly away, and bring some shit with them wherever they go.

People on welfare are like termites. Let them eat and eat and eventually you will have no home left.

Jesus said it's better to teach someone how to fish than to catch a fish for them.
People on welfare would make good bait.

Either that, or they need to learn how to fish for themselves.

When the shit hits the fan, every one of my neighbors will get free food, but they will have to prove they are not on welfare first. Otherwise they can eat each other for all I care.

If you don't care to help yourself, there's no way in hell i'm going to help you.

Could also allow people to actually earn the money by performing various community service functions that are needed. The system does indeed need an overhaul, but this is not really about fixing the system its about securing another revenue stream for a corrupt politician

i like this...
maybe they could work road crews?
they have inmates work county road crews why not let able welfare recipients do the state road work?
i was sent to an "alternative" school as a teenager in FL and they started me on the horticultural path!
they made us hoodlum kids handle all of the landscaping needs for the county school system.
first job they gave me was mixing custom soil!
i learned all about peat, pearl, vermic, greensand, guano, castings ect...
then we went and planted all of the annuals in the spring and tended all the beds.
first time i ever saw one of these
11-14-flymo.jpg

it's a FUCKING HOVERING MOWER!!!!

use em for steep hills ;)

that would provide training, future self employment opportunities and cut costs!!!

It's obvious there's a problem with people taking advantage of government handouts, why not try to make it fair? What other method do you suggest?
2 men enter, one man leaves!
Nationally televised, and proceeds from the event go to pay the contestants...So no Gov't assistance needed.
Oh wait, already exists, called UFC.
:blowbubbles:

Get rid of Welfare is my answer. People need to ween themselves off of reliance on Gov't programs...
I don't know if you've seen it lately, but the Gov (Red, Blue, Green, ect...) just keeps on writing checks! It's time we made the Gov't a 'cash only' business again.
A great movie to check out is "I.O.U. U.S.A.".
Kinda scary to look at a system of liabilities funded by future assets on a premise of a growth factor...A growth factor that cannot be sustained.
Or, if getting rid of Welfare doesn't work for you...
Then we need shittier healthcare in this country. Once diseases like TB, Typhoid, Cholera, Influenza, ect. make a comeback, we'll see things go into balance again.
Or get rid of Penis Pills, once all those older men can't get hard again, they will lose their will to live, saving billions on Medicaid Medicare.
:)

As long as there are free lunches around, there will never be an answer to people milking a free lunch...Likewise there will never be an end to poverty, 'cause not only does it teach one to be poor in material wealth, it also teaches them to be poor in ambition. (really, I could get 'Free Money' for not finding a job? Or I could get taxed and make less WITH a job?)

Dependency = Dictatorship

Daddy loaned you some money.
Daddy takes care of You.

What do YOU have to do for Daddy now?

Better do what Daddy says now.
Daddy government says YOU ARE a slave, and since all YOUR money comes from Daddy....

YOU ARE Daddy Government's Bitch!

Fuck all the poor reckless people on welfare,

YOU ARE THE FUCKING PROBLEM AND THE REASON WE ARE ALL BEING ENSLAVED!!!!

There are many ways the system could be improved. Stop the use of EBT cards for soda candy, potato chips and other crap. Saw a lady at a 7/11 buying red bulls with her card, ridiculous.

you suggest a solution w/o knowing exactly what an EBT card is.

EBT cards are not just for food stamps so how can you assume that those questionable items were bought with food stamps. you cant.

many govt benefits are issued on ebt cards not just food stamps.

DENVER (AP) – A bill to ban the use of public assistance cards at strip club ATMs got initial approval from lawmakers but not before a light-hearted debate.

House Democrats offered several amendments to the Rep. Dan Pabon’s bill Monday, including naming the legislation “The Dan Pabon Valentine’s Day Strip Club Public Assistance Act of 2011.”

Another amendment said the law should not be in effect at any time at Rep. Mark Waller’s “place of residence.”

The cards, similar to ATM cards, give recipients access to food stamps and other public assistance.

The House approved the bill on second reading, without the amendments, and faces another vote before going to the Senate.

The law already prohibits people from using their public assistance cards at ATMs in casinos, racetracks, and liquor stores.

I know that with food stamps you can buy candy, soda, energy drinks etc etc. check the states website yourself there is no reason to be buying people foods with no real nutritional values at all, it should be run like the WIC program where you can only buy from a list of approved foods. and i do know she was using food stamps to buy the red bulls as she was laughing about it with her friend.

i dont disagree but just because the purchase was made with an EBT card doesnt indicate what benefit paid for the purchase.

it could have been paid with funds from SS or SSDI or any other benefit once disbursed via checks.

you will never stop fraud or cheats b/c they adapt rather than get a job. to them cheating the system is a job.

i say that the money and effort spent catching walefare cheats could be spent more wisely by cracking down on fraudulent claims submitted by doctors. prescription drugs bought by Medicare should have a negotiated cost like every other country.

Not fears dude. Just proof it was, is, happening. The bill was enacted because it was being done. Can't find the earlier news article, but it was a deal for awhile in Denver.
Just like ppl in Louisiana using their foodstamps for expensive Lobster tails, that the person working the counter can't even afford.
Just cause we aren't bleeding hearts, doesn't make our views any less relevant.

It's not hate pandering DiscoBiscuit, at least not in my opinion.
It's public tar and feathering. Back in the old days, there used to be town squares. At these locations, people could post notes to the public about people to shame them. If the people caught people in their town doing shameful things, then they might be tarred and feathered as well. That way, people didn't do things that shamed the town.

If everyone on welfare had their names posted in the town square, the town just might tar and feather them, and they would never accept those government handouts. They become traitors to their own people, and that should not be forgiven or forgotten.

It's a class of people that should not exist. So to lay harsh words at a class of people that should not exist to begin with, then if there are none of them, there will be no harsh words to lay against anyone.

I don't see the issue. Are you telling me that we *shouldn't* have strings attached to the money we're giving away?
The issue started off that a POS politician is lining his pockets with public money to be funneled into companies he has a vested interest in. And the continualized marginalization of tokers.
Marijuana testing is a huge business. $600 mil in 2010.
http://www.medtox.com/Investors_Markets.aspx

Then it morphed into a fundamental arguement about 'should there be welfare'.

I just want to reiterate, I see it much more as a systemic, nurture vs. nature problem, then just one of 'it's the right thing to do'.
Of course...This also lends into the theories why 'winter' is a good thing for societies. It comes every year, and those living in the areas have to plan ahead.

Nobody should be drug tested. It's against all principals of freedom.

But if anyone should be drug tested, it should be all employed by the government and all welfare slaves to the government.

Because we see it differently, and we personally know of people milking the system, we are hate/fear pandering.

Welfare existed before Governments.
It's called Church!
But the church is going to hold you more accountable for their assistance than the Government is.

But if anyone should be drug tested, it should be all employed by the government and all welfare slaves to the government.

This is a separate conversation from the one we usually have around here, but what if we were discussing this more broadly..

"Welfare recipients shall not break any laws while they are receiving welfare assistance."

Drugs are illegal. (Well, the illegal ones anyway). You want the government's money? (Which, I might remind us all is YOUR and MY money) Then you have to play by the rules.

The same rules by which all of us are expected to play. But if we're not on the government's handout list, we get a little leniency.

Maybe that's the way to look at it..
