How bad is it to open my grow tent during the dark period???

I'm wondering how bad it is to open my tent and expose my plants to light during their dark period?

When I get home from work my plant lights are off, but I'd like to check them out for 5 mintues or so.

How harmful to the plants would it be to open up the tent for 5 mintues a day during the dark period?

The plants would be exposed to the daylight comming in through the curtains.

I have heard that light exposure during the dark period can cause hermaphrodite plants. Would this still be possible with feminized seeds?

One time for five minutes probably wont cause a problem, though i would not risk it. Five minutes everyday will likely piss off your ladies and cause you problems.
Feminized seeds could turn hermaphrodite in this situation.

How about you change dark cycle to when you are gone as I do. I can be there if the lights catch fire too. Ok I am a bit paranoid....

Next light cycle just keep them dark then when you get home, light em up. Or I guess you have a problem with that for some reason? I am sure you could get a green light cheap as well.

Leave them the fuck alone at night. They need uninterrupted night cycles for optimum growth.

I wouldn't do it. What's the point in making a good growspace without light leaks when you derange them anyway?
Maybe some low intensity green leds would be ok. :2cents:

Bingo! I screw up the lights 2-3 times a grow. Don't mean to, life just happens. Doing it every day is begging for trouble. If you can't change the light schedule, just tough it out and leave the door closed.

My lights turn on at 6PM and I get home from work around 3PM. I guess I can wait 3 hours to check on my plants...

During veg when the lights were on 24/24 I would check on my plants as soon as I got home. I would look forward to seeing them all day long at work. lol

There is just no need to go in there for 5 minutes. Just wait until the lights come on damnit. Let them do their thing.

It sucks. You get used to seeing them whenever you want and then.... We've all been there, we share your pain but, yeah... wait.

depends on how often and for how long, one or 2 times might not matter, but if you keep doing it your plants will surely go hermie.

that antsy feeling goes away after you get a few grows under your belt. soon you'll me writing about how you can never remember to check on your plants. unless you're out of weed and its the last few weeks of flower, in which case you'll be in there everyday trying to decide whether or not chopping one bud will affect them much.

meh, a quick check here and there never appears to have any effect. I'm sure it's strain dependent, but the handful I've run don't seem to care much.

Wow, glad to know I'm not the only person that worries about that. If I have to be away for a night, I worry like a bastard for the first hour the lights are on. After that if I don't get a call from my buddy next door, I convince myself all is well.

It sounded at first like you worked really strange times and wouldn't be able to check your plants on a regular basis..leave them be for the 3 hours...consider it a lesson in patience. Good luck on the grow
