As for St. Pierre -vs- Diaz - it's definitely the best option that the UFC has for GSP right now. The intriguing thing about it is that Nick won't fuck around and he'll actually bring the fight to GSP and put the pressure on him which is a look GSP has never really had to deal with before. That is barring he doesn't spend the entire fight on his back.

I don't think he wins this fight, but I think he'll definitely give GSP a harder fight than what he's had to deal with for awhile. I really don't think anyone is beating GSP in the near future period. He's just on a whole 'nother level. A fight with Ben Askren in the future is a must though**

And beyond this fight (Diaz will be a permanent resident of the UFC, no more Strikeforce for him) I think he'll definitely get some big wins and be a contender again. I don't think he'd get through Fitch (but who can besides GSP?) or Shields (who he would never fight anyways) but I'd probably favour him in big fights with Alves or Koscheck or B.J. Alot of people don't like Nick much, but I'm super happy about the UFC finally getting him. He always comes to fight and puts on a spectacular show every time so how can you not like that? He fights the way everyone wishes their favourite fighters fought but won't admit. I'd love to see him scrap with Ellenberger or Alves in the future.

**If you havn't seen Ben Askren fight then you need to now. His most recent fight against Nick Thompson is a perfect example (find it now!) of how exciting wrestling can actually be. Nick retired after over 50 fights (including wins over Eddie Alvarez and Paul Daley) after being beat by Askren because he had never felt more embarrassed in his life. (True story!) Admittedly I can get bored to tears at some of the wrestling that goes on in the UFC and MMA in general, but when you watch Askren you can't help but love it and appreciate the potential for captivating wrestling in MMA.

He wrestles in a way and at a level that puts GSP and ever other welterweight in the UFC to shame. If the two of them ever had a pure wrestling match, which is GSP's strongest suit, Askren would streamroll him. But when you mix in all of the other aspects of MMA, mainly the striking, he just doesn't have near enough experience yet as he's only 8-0 and only been training MMA for 2+ years. But he would have the capability of neutralizing GSP's main weapon and even play the offensive in that respect. I don't want it to happen yet - but for sure in the future!

Who do you guys think has real potential of beating GSP now, or in the future?

Oh yeah, TUF Finale this weekend. I havn't followed the show since the second season but Pettis -vs- Guida is a very worthwhile fight. Pettis is a stud. I think he can hurt Guida in this fight and latch on a submission at some point. Then hopefully they'll give him an eliminator bought against Jim Miller (assuming he wins his fight with Bendo - which I am) to determine the rightful next contender to the title.

I'm surprised Scott Jorgensen is buried so deep on the card. He did just fight for the title in his last fight.. I don't know much about Ken Stone (besides Eddie Wineland almost killed him in his last fight with an absolutely brutal slam) but I hope he can somehow slip on a submission or something because I can't stand Jorgensen and would love to see him lose this fight.

whats up!? can't believe I missed this thread but I am a huge MMA fan and pretty much watch every UFC Fight if possible and in the last year I have been keeping trying to keep up with Strikeforce ..i don't really watch all the other smaller promotions..but I would love to meet some other MMA fans that likes to grow and smoke p4p maryJ..

as far as the Ultimate Fighter I watched this whole season and am pulling for Ramsey Nijem..I believe Tony Ferguson has better hands, but Ramsey is not far behind him..Ramsey for sure has the better wrestling and submissions..I don't see this going a full 2 rounds..2nd Round Sub for Ramsey

Im a huge Clay Guida fan..I like his attitude in/out of the ring..but this is going to be an awesome fight regardless..Pettis is top notch so I don't know..but I say 3rd Sub for Guida

as far as who is a future canidate for GSP..humm..I say Condit can pose a major threat..Rick Story has great potential but it will take him a few more fights to get there..Fitch would be my last choice, but i'd like to see him win one more time fashionably..

This will be an interesting test for GSP as Diaz is pretty much good ANYWHERE the fight goes. I foresee a GnP decision for GSP in this one.
Does this mean that the belts will be unified? (Doubtful)

Big win for Clay Guida last night but I have to say it was almost unbearable to watch. I can't have any respect or appreciation for a dude who employs a style like the one Guida exhibited last night and I really really hope the UFC arn't actually considering giving him a title shot yet. I know he did what he had to do to win and I understand why he "fought" the way he did but anyone who comes to a fight with no intentions of finishing shouldn't be rewarded. Yes, fighters have to look out for their own safety first and foremost, but at the same time they should always be looking for the quickest way out of that cage which means finishing in the most efficient way possible as quickly as openings present themselves. At no point did it ever look like Clay had any plans of going less than 15 minutes.

I'm really pulling for Jim Miller to beat Bendo in his next fight so that hopefully they'll set up a Guida -vs- Miller title eliminator because there's just no way I see Jim losing that fight right now and they need to get Guida out of the picture asap.

Oh, and props to the UFC for getting the bantamweight and featherweight fights onto the card. Too bad I went to bed after Guida -vs- Pettis and missed out. I'll have to check 'em out later.

I agree it was a big win for Guida, but I have to give Pettis some props because his offense from his back was pretty sick..I honestly was pulling for Guida on this one because I knew it would be a ground game and his sub defense was pretty solid. Pettis is young and had a lot less to loose as far as his future than Guida did..I would like to see Pettis fight the loser of Edgar-Maynard..

As far as Bendo vs Miller I am pulling for Ben just cause I have since watching him in WEC..although Jim is nothing to be messed with..Either way Guida vs Bendo or Miller will be a great fight..but I will honestly say that Guida vs Miller would probably be more exciting because you dont want to be on the ground with Miller so I would be interested to see what Guida's plan was on that fight..

too bad for Ramsey Nijem..i was really hoping for the opposite..but look at Schaub, Mitrione, and some of the other TUF finalist's..still room to shine for him..Tony Ferguson is for real though..I look foward to see him fight again.

Looks like he's taken a leaf out of GSP's book

Negatory Roast Ghider. He took a page from the book of the Grandfather of lay and hump - Matt Lindland.

Many LnP fighters have taken tips from the tutelage of 'The Law' - famous examples include

Josh 'The Blanket' Koscheck
Gray 'The Smotherer' Maynard
Clay 'The Crapenter' Guido

At least with fighters like GSP and Brock 'The Chest Penis' Lesnar they have a few more tricks in their arsenal.

I think one of the only things that keeps Guda from getting cut is his crazy ass hair. If he didnt have that whig flopping around like that while hes dancing, he wouldnt be half as 'exciting'.
A Guida shaved is a Guida Urned.

I think Guida did what he had to do because Pettis is not someone you can take lightly. I mean that kid is a supertalent in the making and we all know just how dangerous these kids can be.

I'm sure Shogun can agree with that

If you cant defend the takedown.. then your SOL.. Pettit would make a much more exciting fight for the belt cus guida will get whooped by maynard or edgar ( p.s I like guida)... or maybe guida's takedowns has gotten better ??? anyway if you cant defend the takedown , and cant get up on your own.. dont bitch.. you lost

Not that I dont agree with the prospect of Pettit being alot more fun but I noticed that Guida have been looking alot better since he joined up with Greg Jacksons camp.

That been said he still and probably never will be a serious title contender but I cant help liking the guy and I'm hoping he'll step up and with jackson at his corners we can atleast be sure that he'll have a good gameplan. Probably not a fun one but good nonetheless

Well just don't be quick to forget that Guida did finish his last 3 fights by subs before this fight with Pettis..yeah it would have been more exciting to see them stand and someone get knocked out..but according to compustrike what little they did stand Guida still outstruck Pettis..Guida had a smart game plan and stuck to it..he has crazy cardio and I think he would be a great matchup for the title contendership..but I completely agree with Dana that Jim Miller is ahead of him..if Guida can another W and 2 at most he should get a shot for sure..Id like to see Guida vs Guillard..

UFC 131 this weekend.

Dos Santos -vs- Carwin and Nunes -vs- Florian are must see fights for sure and Maia -vs- Munoz is nice too.

As always I'm hoping we get to see the featherweight fights wind up on the card too somehow. The UFC did a great job of getting them onto the TUF Finale so my fingers are crossed. Omigawa is a top 5 dude at featherweight (ignore his unflattering record, it's quite deceiving) and should get some maincard or atleast Spike prelim action. However somehow I find it conceivable that he loses on points to Darren Elkins.. Crazier things have happened with this guy.. And Dustin Poirier just ragdolled Grispi in his last fight and should be able to secure a finish in this one and a ticket to television as well.

:good: Yeah can't wait for this weekend's fights for sure, the carwin fight should be a good flurry of fists :D

Yeah this is going to be a great fight..I am more excited about this than Dos Santos fighting Brock..although my prayers go out to Brock because I look foward to his return...For me it is really hard to pick a winner for the Dos Santos-Carwin fight..I think Dos Santos is more an accurate striker, but I think Carwin hits slighty harder..either way if they stay on the feet someone is hitting the canvas...I pick Florian and Munoz also to win.
