DEA legalizing more pot farms... for big pharma companies

Surprise?

http://www.eastbayexpress.com/ebx/meet-your-new-pot-dealer-big-pharma/Content?oid=2665515
Despite the US government's staunch opposition to medical cannabis farms in Oakland and elsewhere, the feds have begun licensing a whole lot of large legal pot grows throughout the country. But this weed is not for cannabis dispensaries and their patients; it's for Big Pharma.

The Drug Enforcement Administration told Legalization Nation in an e-mail last week that 55 unnamed companies now hold licenses to grow cannabis in the United States, a fact that contradicts the widespread belief that there is only one legal pot farm in America, operated under the DEA for research purposes. It appears as if the upswing in federally approved pot farming is about feeding the need of pharmaceutical companies who want to produce a generic version of THC pill Marinol and at least one other cannabis-based pill for a wide variety of new uses.
In other words, if big corporations grow dope with the government and put it in a pill, it's medicine. But if you grow it at home or at a city-permitted pot farm and then put it in a vaporizer, it's a felony...

...The federal government has already boosted its marijuana production capability by 900 percent to 4.5 million grams, according documents obtained by Americans for Safe Access. The most famous federally approved pot grower, Dr. Mahmoud El Sohly, has also testified he has begun legally selling THC extracted from his Mississippi pot farm to the drug company Mallinckrodt.
Big Pharma's move on the pot industry isn't some forty-year-old hippie conspiracy theory, said Paul Armentano, spokesman for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. It's here.

Why didn't Arizona reference this in their lawsuit. How is it legal that "Corp us" lets "corporations" grow this illegal narcotic. While telling the states if they setup any mmj programs they are " assisting in the production of narcotics"? I don't understand how people allow such hipocracy.

I see a discrimination case helping us growers in the future. If a large company can do it why cant a small one. It is small business discrimination.

once they change the laws for big pharma. then all you have to do is get a tax id for a pharm company that you own and operate you might need to know a scientist and say he works for you but you will then be under protection of federal law........mom & pop pharmicuticle company.........

My my, hey hey!
Paid off government is here to stay!

There's more to the picture,
Than you'll ever know,
The harvest you reap,
Depends on what you sow!

Government has been nothing more than a tool of the wealthy for over a century.

The two political parties are controlled by a few wealthy, pathetic control freaks. They want to control the government with their billions that are funneled to politicians of their choosing.

When they control the politicians and priorities, they control the legislation.

When they control the legislation, government resources and the media, they control the people.

When they control the people, they can squeeze more money out of you.

They really have it down.

Ask yourself, when facts and comon sense dictate one course of action, why do our politicians always fuck it up?

Hey hey, my my,
Corruption in government will never die!

It's better to burn one,
Than it is to try,
When you truly understand it,
It's simply a lie!

also... I am worried when they say they are looking to see if the plants can help sick people... well if their weed is crap.... then theyd say weed is no good for medicinal purposes, when in reality, it was just their weed that was no good.

I dunno i looked at the weed pictures and they seem like weird plants...

This should be NO surprise to anyone, we all know RJ Reynolds has been purchasing large tracts of fallow and bankrupt farmlands in the central valley in California (and not for growing tobacco). I grew up in Madera (just north of Fresno, CA) and I know of three of my old high school friends who have sold their farms to a legal entity that their own lawyers told them is really a front company for RJ Reynolds, they didn't care, all 3 were going down the financial toilet bowl and RJ threw at them a lot of money (about 2 times what the land was really worth).

We are seeing the beginnings of the corporate world encroaching into what was normally small mom and pop type grow operations. I fear that in another decade they will make it 1) economically unfeasible for a small grower to grow and enjoy some small profit from a home grow 2) possibly increase the licensing fee's and different taxes to the point where it becomes again a onerous burden to grow some of your own "homegrown"

We need to be diligent in the political arena to stop the "corporatization" of our beloved hobby or evocation.
