Bedroom on 20a breakers-what to do electrically

C

Hi guys

Boutta set up a tent in spare bedrom-it's on a 20 amp circuit (excuse my poor electrical vocabulary).

I want to run 1200 watts + a couple accessories-inline fan, maybe some florescents.

Is 20 amps enough??

Can I just plug the 600s into a strip or what? I can't really rewire anything, so the standard 120v bedroom receptacles are all I really have to work with..

20 amps is plenty. Do you have 2 separate outlets in the room? If you do get 2 light timers, 1 600W ballast in each. IMO this is safer than running a power bar/power strip. which are only rated for 1500W max. The general rule for electrical safety is to not overload a circuit by more than 80% of the total load. I would suspect the 20 amp breaker also controls the outlets for another bedroom (flip it off and check)... so consider what other devices you plug into the same circuit.

ALso, if you are using the typical light timers from homedepot, walmart etc these are pretty cheaply made and should be used for lighting over 1000W. This is why I siuggest 2, 1 for each lamp in a separate outlet.

Honestly I dont think so even Digital 600W ballasts are 5.4Amps/Each
so 2x 5.4=10.8
so were at 10.8Amps just with lights
Inline fan capable of cooling the hoods 1Amp+
so 11.8Amp/15Amp
leaves you with 3.2Amps to safely play with for everything else honestly get a Flip Box 1 600W Digital ballast and 2 hoods and 2 lamps and run 2 smaller rooms or build a wall in the one rooms and convert it to 2 rooms you could even go up to 1K bulbs if wanted more money invested but would work out safely with your electrical situations...

I agree with this. Another good thing about this would be that it would prevent them from spiking the draw at the exact same time. Even if they are only offset by a few seconds it should be enough.

He doesn't mention what brand of ballast he has but for what its worth galaxy 600w ballasts use 5 amps even, but most every other does use a bit more like you refer to. Also he says he has a 20 amp circut so he has 16 amps to work with, not the 15 you mention since 80% of 20 is 16.

So if he ran:
2x galaxy 600w = 5a each
1x 6" inline fan = 1a
1x oscillating fan = .6a

That comes to 11.6 amps for a functioning 1200w soil grow. 12.4 amps if using a hungrier ballast.

Add two 396gph water pumps and two air pumps if you want to run a couple ebb and flow tables.

2x 396gph water pump = .18a each
2x air pumps = .03a each

That comes to 12.02 amps for a complete functioning 1200w ebb and flow grow. 12.82 amp for the hungrier

That leaves over 3 amps left to safely use for whatever else he wants.

Gonna go vert tent with stacked 600 cool tubes, coco with shelves. Dunno how I'm going to water though.

Can I use blumats with shelves if I keep the res high enough?

I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work.

I'm just getting my blumats all dialed in on my grow. I just got an adjustable cycle timer for my pump which will replenish my elevated rez from a lower, larger rez.

There has also been talk in bobblehead's thread about having the reservoir on the next floor and running the line down through the ceiling to make the elevated blumats work correctly and still be able to have the res sitting on a floor.

do it up!

if temps arent an issue, run bare bulb, you will see increased yield and frostier nuglets!

Similar to what i'm thinking in the near future. Gotta make sure all my security concerns are in check first though.

That would be nice, there is one thing I've been thinking about in regards to the rez though.

If you adjust the blumats to work, I think you're adjusting them to work at that specific level of pressure. If you're rez is directly connected to them, the pressure will be highest when it's full but it will drop when the rez level lowers. That is one good thing about the elevated primary with the secondary to top it off. If I'm keeping the 5 gallon bucket I'm using for mine topped off with a pump all the time the pressure level will be consistent.

This is all conjecture though, I've haven't even had mine hooked up for a whole week, and I don't even know how much of a difference it would make anyway.

Been done. AFOM, works well!
