Conversion Bulbs Needed?

Hello,

I have a quick question regarding my ballast. I purchased a Digital Greenhouse ballast from HTG ( link to the one I bought)

It says it operates both 600 hps and 600 MH bulbs. It came with with both bulbs but one is a conversion bulb. So, does that mean I can only buy conversion bulbs?

I was under the impression that I can get any 600 watt MH bulb.


This is my first light, so please take it easy one me

yeah 600w you need conversion bulbs cause no one makes 600w MH bulbs

if it was 250 400 or 1000 you could buy either, but 600 there are no reg MH bulbs
go look around on the internet if you don't believe, you'll only find conversion bulbs. here are some of my favorite sites

Yeah 600 is a sweet light...until ya want to run MH. Conversion bulbs are the only way.

BTW What would be a good Conversion Bulb to go with? HTG sent me an Agromax instead of their cheap GrowBrite bulbs. I thought that was pretty cool of them.

I mean sure they are less efficient than a straight, MH. but so what? since the op already has a 600 bulb/ballast combo telling him to veg under a bulb that will stretch his plants is a big help! a 600 MH conversion puts out way more light than a 400 MH.

Rugerbaby you are fine use the Agromax they are good bulbs. I personally wouldn't waste money on a different bulb. good luck on your grow sounds like you are off to a good start. I have a 400 digital greenhouse ballast so far its lasted 3 years.

please ignore my post count it is meaningless!! i have grown under hps since 1992, and i know stretch is very much strain related more so than spectrum.

my dislike of 600mh conversion. $118 for a bulb. low lumens. short bulb life.

600 hps is the most efficient bulb out there, and the 600 mh is not even close.

I'd rather veg under 400mh than a 600hps any day of the week. But that's me; I've tried it both ways. Your mileage may vary.

400mh yes, cheap and plentiful !! no conversion bulbs for me though, they dont interest me at all!!

Try a dual arc bulb. You can find them cheap on ebay, and you'll get better vegging performance than standard HPS. Not to mention 600w is pretty standard.
