Leaving my buds hanging on holiday

The worst news today, I've been forced to move my 10 day holiday in July forward by a month. Its going to be right after I cut my baby down.

Bottom line - I can't change my holiday. There's money tied up in it and I have to take it.

Question. Can I leave my buds hanging for 10 days in a well ventilated drying chamber whilst I'm away? Or do I need to rope my brother into checking them every few days?

I know I should be there for by girl, but it can't be that way. If I can leave it fine, if not, I need to make arrangements. At least its not going to be in the last few weeks of growth, I'll have cut her down before I need to leave.

hmmm well you could do that but they will probably be pretty crispy dry when you get back, probably will have to put them in jars with lettuce or something to get some of the harshness out... you might want to look into that "freezer method" , not a lot of people have tried it but if you get like 4 days to dry it then put it in an open box in the freezer while you are gone, when you get back in theory they should be nearly cured, you pop them in a jar and they regain their smell a few days after they return to room temp...i haven't tried it, just a thought...

What Sloth said if u hang your buds for 10days they will be crispy dry when u get back bro, and way past the point of being able to be cured. Assuming typical drying conditions (70F temps, 45% humidity, well ventilated etc) air drying for much more than 4-5 days will crispy your bud. Hanging for 10 days the smoke will be OK probably a little harsh though but still definitely smokable. If you dont care that much about it then leaving it for 10days would be ok imo but not ideal clearly!

After you chop, how many days have u got till u leave on holiday? Is it possible to air dry for a few days then jar your gear up and take it with u? Lol airline flights obviously count this option out. Could you bring the harvest forward a few days? (obviously not ideal but nontheless..)

Those are your options as far as i see it.. Other than that might be best to let your brother handle it, as long as he doesnt blaze it all up when your gone lol!

Hope that helps

I'm not sure if this would work personally, but thought I'd throw it out there as an "emergency" option since its only for 10 days.....

Would it not be possible to just harvest before your departure and simply put the fresh goods into vacuum sealed freezer bags, then store them in a cool dark place for those 10 days and deal with the proper dry/cure process on your return ??

Again... I'm not sure if this would be feasible or not, but I "think" it would work without issue in a vacuum'd sealing in the dark & cool without mishap considering the short time span. Anyone ?

Hey guys, thanks for your replies.

@ senorsloth, I've actually been reading into that method and decided that it is what I am going to do. It is easy and I don't have to worry about humidity whilst they are frozen

@ BlazingSaddles, thanks again, the freezer method sounds like the best option. Harvest time will be approximately 5 days before we leave so I can hang them for 4 or 5 days then straight to the freezer. I've even tested some out recently using the microwave to quick dry and the smoke wasn't even harsh, so hopefully this honey b will be awesome when properly cured

@ smokum420, thanks, I had also read about a similar method to this, although the method I read had you putting them in zip lock then into the refrigerator. After all the digging around I've done, I think the freezer method will save my bacon

Cheers all
