Doing it Outside 2011

Howdy everyone,

i guess it's time for a new thread, as i am doing another attempt at an outdoor grow this year. we are keeping things to 11 plants this year in the hopes that they will be 11 nice plants in the end. we did much better prep work then i did last year and chose the spots carefully. basically we are using 2 areas which have the best sun from the ones i scouted last year. i also didn't want to bother climbing cliffs with soil this year so my secret valley will be empty of cannabis this year.

anyway not much to see yet, although for us it was the hardest part, we were able to drive the soil etc in quite close but its was still hot sweaty work getting the stuff from the forest track into the bush where our area for planting was.

we made 3 holes in one area and 8 holes in the best area, some holes a bit bigger then others but all a good size, mixed up worm castings and guano and perlit with the store bought universal potting soil.

as no plants got killed in this area last year we were planning not to make any fences, the seedlings are still very weak and will be put out in the next days when they get a bit bigger. i put 1 clone of my pheno 6 SDxCJ today just to see if the deer leave it alone. because we did see deer on the way.

anyway was very sweaty and dirty work so i didnt take many pics but you get the idea.

Tuned in for another year's grow. Pardnered up this year, did you? With good help double the number of plants.

Your site looks ideal but watch those deer. Net or cage best defense. The only way I get a harvest is to net my sites.

I doubled up this year. So far 18 of 38 are in the ground. Have had so much rain that holes are oozing at 1' depth. Using 50/50 native soil and a no fertz added potting mix.

Hi gaius...:)

I´m sure you´ll do a lot better this year.
Outside we have no what-to-do-answers.
Learning the things by doing is the way.
You learned some of the outside-rules last year as we can see :jump:

yeah nearly didnt do any outdoor this year but when my friend said he'd drive the supplies as close as possible without worrying about getting a ticket i thought ok why not. we are not gonna put any fencing up this time. last year in the same general area the plants were not bothered by the local wildlife.

Hey all the best for this years grow fella! Fewer and bigger plants ... that's the way to go i think :)

great to have you along again mate, i learned a lot from you outdoor guerrilla growers.

yeah if the plan works and i end up with real trees it will be cool. am still wondering if i should put a few of my SDxCJ cross clones out too? not sure if they can deal with the climate like the FD. maybe i'll just leave it at the one i already planted. also have 2 possibly 3 of my top44 x SD/CJ ready to go outside. plan to use pollen from one of those, i'm hoping 1 will be a male, lol, to make seeds on the FD's for next year. i know it's not ideal breeding practice to make seeds from fem plants, but it would be fun to have more seed so a tryout will be the way to decide if it's a worthy guerrilla cross or not. in a few seasons we will know, lol.

damn! 1 of the 10 FD ladies as dried up and keeled over dead :moon:

you doing some again this year?

No, no FD's this year. I heard great things from a few UK growers last year about the 'Easy Sativa' (from femaleseeds.nl) but my local seed vendor only had a pack of 4 left so i also bought a 10 pack of 'Maroc' (also from femaleseeds.nl). All should be nice and ripe by the end of Sept. ... but i havn't germed them yet so a late start this year.

very interesting, will be interesting to see how they do. it's not easy to get the perfect strains for our climate. im hopping my project to cross some top44xSD/CJ males with the FD bears fruit, might be interesting.

i also think it's a good patch, time will tell. i was gonna plant them yesterday, but i was feeling under the weather, so we are planning to do it Saturday.

Yeah it was a happy high. Had some nice moments in the oct/nov sunshine smoking that :)

looking forward to more of the happy high lol. i ended up giving most of my outdoor away last year. made some folks very very happy. but i have to say, for our climate it's a pretty good strain

Update:

Update:

Planting day 28th May

well finally my plants are in the ground, now we hope for the best lol. here some pics from planting day. was hot afternoon and we each had to spend a good 15 mins picking ticks off our clothes and skin, yuk. one or two on my back were already stuck on the bastards. there was us thinking we finally had an idea what to expect with the ticks we get overwhelmed by the fuckers. never had so many, but there again we had to brush our way through a whole bunch of thickly overgrown areas. it's such a bummer to have to worry about those things, makes the whole guerrilla project that much less fun. gonna have to ask the local forest workers what they do. had jeans and army boots on, but short sleeved shirt and i forgot to put my pants inside my socks before we left the path. think the fuckers must have got in on my arms and up my jeans. anyway enough about that, here some pics of the planted Frisians and the 2 Afghan Diesel clones of mine. want to test how they do outside.

when i got to this hole to plant my seedling top44 x sd/cj i found that some animal had dug up a lot of my soil mix, so i had to try scoop it back and cover it with a layer of the local soil. might be a male anyway so it's the best place for this one.

this one has been there since last friday, seems to be taking a while to get used to the soil
picture.php

had to add a layer of local soil as a topping, to help it contain the moisture underneath. it's also a bit more stealth, then having the perlit mix totally visible. this will be a low maintenance grow so there won't be too many updates, but i will take pics when ever i do have to go. the first clone has been out there now for more then a week and no body ate her, so there is hope the rest will be left alone too. wish me luck lol.

Great to see your on top of your outdoor Guais  ... mine isn't going to plan at the moment as the slugs have multi-plyed by 100% due to this really wet weather were having over here atm.

sad to hear you lost some of your plants, hopefully the rest will make it ok. will be nice if i don't lose any to animals, we will see...

those are bio snail pellets, they are harmless to all animals and plants except for snails and slugs. it says they decompose harmlessly if not eaten.

Damn! sorry to hear the slugs are fucking with your seasons beginning. we are having perfect spring weather here. with any luck mine will all survive this fragile stage. the clone i put out when we first dug the holes, has been left alone all this time, so i'm hopeful the seedlings will be left alone too. i'm a bit worried that i put too much perlit in some of the holes, we will see....

peace out ya'll :kos:
