That's a damn good story CC, I would have liked to meet her. I'll bet she had some stories of her own.

I've never owned a horse, but I had chickens for awhile. That's how I perfected my chicken shit tea. Damn neighbors called the cops because my rooster would crow real early, the only time I liked getting up early was when Bud Rooster woke me up crowing. I had to get rid of him, looking back I should have ate him.

^ exactly off the natures 420 clone menu, hahah. recognize that list anywhere. you know they closed recently, they told me they were done doing clones?
bluedream is not 100% sativa by the way, their menu has some misinformation. neither is c99.

ill be growing blue dream and gdp as well, but neither sourced from N420.

ill be around watching the show. im close, in the 530, doing some 400gal smartpots.

good luck.

Hey BC, yep 420 it be. Whoa, news to me about them closing. I havent been in touch with 420 since i picked up my clones in Feb...I did have a long conversation with the owner 'bout 2 months ago and he wasnt real happy with the associated BS. I suspect his business was feeling the glut crunch also. I thought their variety was decent as dispensaries go, so I did what I could. The clones where a lot better than most dispensaries and only 10.00 apiece in Feb. I did see a N420 ad 3 weeks ago and their clones where up to $20.00, the bastards! lol BTW, still looking for a few clones. Ya know of any other dispensaries carryin up this way and not gouging the shit out of us? LOL

If they did close, I hope the patient/growers got paid for any meds owed. That's why I dont particularly care for dispensaries. They are all about compassion but if shit goes down, the patient is the last to know. And dont get me started on the "med consignment" BS. In my day, we called it "fronting"...

"bluedream is not 100% sativa by the way, their menu has some misinformation. neither is c99". Thanks for the heads up. I havent grown either but the BD clones I have definately show sativa characteristics. Almost 4ft tall and real rangy...The Cindy clones were slow growers but are beginning to come on. I'm happy with the GDP, so far. And, I'm well aware that dispensaries are not the most reliable source for clone strain reliability. LOL We'll see!

The clones were about 4" tall when I picked em up in Feb. The Blue Dreams are along the wall (left side of photo) You cant miss the long and narrow sativa leaves. The greenhouse side wall is 5ft tall.

LOL Joe...they wouldnt have me back to apologize for the first time I was there! Last year they were doing the 'consignment" thing which I suggested what they could do with and that pretty much ended that...lol

The further into the spring, the dispensaries really jack up the clone prices...Really pisses me off...That's not compassion, just basic hard core supply & demand commercialism...CC

CC, I revoked my own membership there after they pretty much told me tough shit when I told them a medible I got there was totally bunk and gave me a headache. I'm a dick sometimes so I though it was just me. :tiphat:

They do have a good selection of clones which is why I recommended them but I'd never go back. I'm headed down south next week to get some stuff from the bay area, in a more perfect world I'd pick something up for ya.

hey cc, looking good, not sure if you have used that mix in containers before with your native soil, but if not you may need to watch out for ph issues. ive always been told ph and ground dirt and containers somehow dont do well together. Are you using a ph buffer? ok looking good

bd is blueberry x haze but imo it acts like a super sativa in veg then gets fat too!! lots of bd here as well

good growing to ya

Reading this with interest, CDC and BC. A list of my strains looks a lot like CDC's, for the same reason. Thanks for calling that other place to my attention, I'm probably good for this year but it's always tempting to pick up something different. May the Cannabis Gods smile upon all of us this year.

CC- yeah, i picked up some sweet tooth and plat OG for an indoor run when they had their sale buy two get one free, that was a great deal i thought! the sweet tooth turned out superb as well as the plat OG. they did have a quite a nice selection of strains and they never had any mites or PM for me anyways.

what's kind of messed up is i ordered a dozen blue dreams and green cracks from N420 probably 3 weeks ago, and the owner told me he was in the process of moving his clone nursery to another warehouse location and that he wasn't going to be making any new cuttings for atleast 3 months(horrible timing i thought), but he said he had a flat of bd and gc i could pick up the following weekend. so i called back a few days later to tell them i was driving up, and a lady answered and told me they no longer sell clones or medicine and that i'm out of luck. darn. wasn't too big of a deal, just seemed kind of sleezy.

don't go to medicali in redding(it's close to N420), i picked up half a dozen "green crack", none of them are green crack, and there is actually two varieties they gave me. poor business. even though the previous season i picked up some stellar true blue dream clones, i just don't trust them now. most of my varieties i picked up from friends who have mothers. the only clones i got from a dispensary this year are from oaksterdam, a friend had to drive out there so i had him pick up some stuff. the clones are very healthy and rooted, i was pleased.

good karma collective in lake county is an awesome place to pick up 100% trouble-free clones of great varieties, but that's two hours away(they have a website)... fruitridge health and wellness in sacramento has a great selection of clones (check their website)and gets new deliveries every morning i think. they are also the only vender of oaksterdam clones in norcal other than oakland, their selection is pretty awesome. so i'd recommend good karma growers collective, and fruitridge health and wellness. local collectives in 530 seem to be pretty weak, with medicine and clones. i shy away from them..

if N420 has a good/true cut of blue dream, get ready for an awesome plant in all regards. ease to grow and vigorous, gets huge, caterpillar and mold resistant, buds look and smell great, great high. a great outdoor strain.

Hey Stick, yea, working with native soil can be a slippery slope. I limit soil issues by only mixing 1/3 native and the rest a good commercial bag mix. This is the first year working with this native soil but so far i havent seen anything that causes me to worry to much.

I know a lot of the fellas throw everything but the kitchen sink at the soil thing from the git but I adjust or tweak as I go, and only if and when necessary. With 2/3 high quality bag soil, the native is more or less filler. The only native soil I run from is that which has a lot of pine needles. Too acidic and a pain to bring around. What I call 'high maintenance' native soil. Even a minimum 1/3 mix can off set the bag soil without all kinds of additives. So, for me personally no buffers until necessary.

If my plants start struggling, soil is the first thing I check and then go from there. With the minimal added native soil, it would have to be something really weird to be the problem. IMO, my horse manure tea, used every watering, assists the native soil with anything it might lack but as you mention, containers may be a variable. We'll see...

All I know 'bout the BD so far is that it definitely has predominate Sativa traits in the veg stage...LOL

Thanks for the good vibes...To you and yours too...CC

Hey BC, appreciate all the info and time spent! I had a long conversation with the owner of N420 today. It seems the city is hassling them and a few other clubs over permit renewals. The owner is pretty outspoken so that isnt making it easier for him. lol So they are down but not out. Yea, definitely bad timing with spring and all for everyone, including them.

I visited the folks at Good Karma last summer for one of their outdoor farmers markets. Good people! At the time, their clone selection was pretty pitiful only because apparently everyone was busy out tending the crops! Hard to complain about that...lol I keep an eye on their website, they are definitely a good source for all things med.

As far as Sac goes, you'd have to beat me with a stick to get me to go there! Hell, I'd almost go to the Bay first! Besides, I'm a small town cowboy, i dont do well in the big city...lol Thanks again pard...CC

Damn bro, aint that the truth...just one more and OK, just one more and well alright, just one more...lol

I havent been doin outdoor long enough to have my "stable of standards". But I dont suppose that wouldnt matter cause there will always be some other strain I wanna try growing...It's just the damn nature of the beast!

Whether out of simple curiosity or just the challenge of doin it and being successful or maybe it's because every seed or clone I see whispers to me, "Hey cowboy, grow me...GROW ME!! Good wishes to you too Map...CC

okay i wanted to make sure i did not post until i caught up. I was apparently missing this thread this whole time.

Things look great!

If you havent finished all the holes might i suggest...

your plants are fucking huge... last year i put in clone sized plants june 1 and they were in 3X3X4 ft deep holes... they got to be 8ft tall and wide FROM CLONE on plant date.

I also came to notice something when i emptied out the holes to ammend this year.

Not too many roots below two feet. Dont get me wrong, there are a few, but a VAST majority are in the top 2 ft.

Clones do not have "tap roots" in the same sense that a seed root will be a tap root.

with your plants vegged this large, consider a few 3-400 gallon holes, ala 6 ft wide by 2 ft deep.

your holes are awesome, but i fear they may not support the hugeness of plant you appear to be preparing for.

i turned every single 3X3X3 ft hole i had into a 6ft round X 2 deep hole this year.

had to dig the same holes twice in two years... save yourself the work.

IN CLOSING, YOUR VEG PLANTS ARE SO FUCKING GNARLY LARGE THAT YOU WANT GNARLY LARGE HOLES TO MATCH!

will not be disappointed, and you are right the holes are a right of passage. get digging... again!

Hey there Mani...Welcome and thanks for sharing your insights, experiences and suggestions. Your post made me laugh. In a good way! Lemme explain:

You have exposed one of my biggest fears/concerns and I think youre right on. My clones are f'n huge. Way bigger than I intended or would have preferred and a little voice in the back of my head keeps sayin "this could cause problems down the line". So no, I was not preparing for or targeting massive plants! I just got em in Feb to avoid any spring clone shortages and price gouging that seems to come with waiting too long. They just grew better than I expected! lol

I agree with your enlarging the hole theories. But, due to rocky soil conditions, I am applying the Smart Pot principals. That said, a 200 gal SP is roughly 4ft in diameter and 2ft deep. My holes are 3ft in diameter(1 ft smaller) but 3ft deep (1 ft deeper) so I'm close to the 200 gal mark. Although I dont have the width, I'm still relying on the nature of Smart Pot growing to manage the root system. A few folks on this site have been known to put 4ft starters in 200 gallon pots and have success. I'm fixin to find out for myself. Hopefully, the width wont come to bite me. If the only down side is the plants max at only 5 to 6ft instead of 8 to 10ft but the quality and yield are relative to the size, hell I'd take that in a heart beat...LOL

This being the first year here on my property, I expect to take what I learn from the first season (which I'm sure is going to be a lot!) and apply it towards the next and the next and the next...lol. And that might involve abandoning the smart pot approach, finessing the holes or having my own clone process or a combination of all 3. I'm sure it will be the latter! LOL I see this first season as a learning experience. The one thing I do know for sure, the work next season will damn well be less that what Ive had to do this first year! The trick is to still manage a respectable yield with quality, and achieve it while I'm learning "the lay of the new land"...lol Thanks again for the visit and the input dude! CC
