I don't allow my soil to "dry out" before watering. I maintain a constant moisture. A few years ago I was going the soak then dry out to let the roots stretch and find water technique. I started thinking about how I like to keep hydrated and so I started rethinking this method...I did some research and found studies that showed plants on drip irrigation with a constant, steady moisture content, yielded higher. I also learned that plants can't take up any nutrients without water. So all that good organic matter in my soil is unavailable without water. The even more plant available exudates that the bacteria and fungi have processed are unavailable as well. Anyhow, whatever works for each of us best is what we should go with. I agree that too much water is not good, our roots like oxygen and a saturated medium chokes out oxygen....

Cheers.

welcome to the room greenhands

im not a plumbing expert but it seems you would be fine, there are others who will chime in and tell u right away though....

tg great advice....can nobody throw me some dep cover ideas? I am looking at coverng about a 40' by 8 ft high hoop, a few of them, and would love to hear if anybody has ideas of making it easier than pulling it over the top by hand. ...? thanks in advance

yes 4 prop 215 im not sure if you were asking how to remove a plant from a smart but a guy I know just cuts them down the middle with a razor blade carefully and it just peels right off, the root damage kinda sucks as they are intertwined , but if your going into a bigger smartie it would be a small worry to me. good luck, cool to see u going outside!

hey having some problems figuring out how to set up my drip as of right now i have 15 300 gal smarties and 25 100's my plan as of right now for the drip is to run 1/2 inch tubing and tee off to every plant with 1/4 inch tubing which will be layed on the soil in a spiral and emitters ever 12'' my water pressure comes out at about 30 psi should i just get a filter and a back flow preventer or get the pressure regulator as well will this set up even work for this many plants? any help is very appreciated. if any of you big container guys think i should scrap the set up and do something else im more then willing to listen thank you all

a 30 psi regulator will put out 8 gpm i believe. so you've got 480gph...drip irrigation manuals will tell you not to go over 150gph on one circuit...we are running 200gph + on each circuit with no problems...take a rope a swirl it around how you want it, measure the length, then figure out your gph on each plant. do some math and figure out how much water you need to bring to your plants then break them up on circuits from there...
you should get the 1/2" drip line that has the pre-spaced emitters already in place. they come either 12" or 18" intervals...

you dont want to use 1/2" for your main line. it does not really run enough water. I am using 1" and wish I had ran larger my system runs fine but I could do more with my pump if i used the larger line. You want to go off of 1 or 1.25" main line to 1/2 line that services your plants. good luck. make sure you use a good filter!

sticky if you fold the tarp over in half when you're taking it off then by half again and then put it on the ground you can just pull it right over the hoop. I'm using a 20' stick at 14' wide for my dep and it is so easy my girl has been pulling tarp for me because i've been doing other stuff.

- Hey tom, or anyone who can answer;

- I’ve gone over the basic soil mix greatly, and have been trying to figure out proportions/ratios for a general mix.

- From what I can gather based off of the amount of ingredients in cubic feet, if one was to use a part as any amount, like for instance a gallon as 1 part, the recipe would look something like this, is that right? I think the amount of chicken manure and other ingredients is a little much in the proportions I am giving (but perhaps not for large pots..), but the original recipe calls for 4 cubic feet of chicken manure to ~38 cubic feet of general soil… That’s about 40:4, so 10:1…

10 parts basic unamended soil mixture.
1 part chicken manure
1 part Perlite
0.5 Parts Bone Meal
0.20 Parts, or perhaps as low as .15 parts or perhaps as high as .25 Parts Gypsum or 50/50 Gypsum/Dolomite Lime

- This is based off of

37.7 cf ft black gold soil
4 cf chicken manure
4 cf perlite
~ 2 cf Bone meal
[FONT=&quot]~ 1 cf gypsum

What about three light movers, one on top, two on the sides, all dragging your material over with wire guides to support in the two high corners? I know 40 feet would be hard to keep cords from getting caught...

yeah i went out this morning and it seems the skies cleared for a bit last night, making it somewhat colder. Not like yesterday a.m. but still cold enough to make my neem oil that was inside a structure a solid mass. Well see if La nina decides to be around long time this year...hopefully not

stay safe all and keep it green! nice to some some people up early!!

Damn Joe,she looks super healthy and happy.

TG: Shitty about the damage. It was cold as hell last night. I planted a bunch of big satori's from 5 gal to 200's yesterday evening and they look ok but a little shockey. Oh well,still great to be out so early with big plants.
