ImaginaryFriend's INTERPRETATION of Delta9nxs' PASSIVE PLANT KILLERS

Stripped number 4. That's about two weeks after the last aggressive bit of abuse.

---

D9 once mentioned, I think, the idea that most plants stretch through the first 40% of flower.

---

Now, delta, you mentioned that you strip at the end of stretch. So, since you run your girls about ten weeks that's about 28 days. Am I right?

Why am I typing this here, instead of his thread?

But, since I'm typing: if this 40/60 ratio is common to all genetics (and this is a crazy speculation) could we reverse this concept and project finish time from the end of stretch (when working with new or multiple new lines, for example)?

that 40/60 ratio is from cannastats yield o rama. it is not a hard number for all strains. i imagine there is quite a difference between the most extreme examples but it is a good rough ratio. the sweet tooth i usually run 9 weeks so that would make stretch 25.2.

usually any thing past 21 days is close enough with most indoor strains.

also this gets skewered by those running longer flower times than normal by choice.

what is commercially finished and what is actually finished? if someone runs a strain longer or shorter than normal it does not change the end of stretch.

careful observation will tell you when is the right time for your strain.

my swt #4 was originally billed as a 6 week wonder. and you can take it at 6. it will be all frosted up and fairly heavy. all clear trichs. more of an up high.

i started adding a week at a time to harvest and kept getting a better plant. i've run it 6 weeks to 11 weeks and have come to prefer 9.

but when is stretch really over?

I don't know... the plants I'm working with right now have center support poles. I've only had to tie two limbs to it for support on the first girl of this run. What they do offer, however is a reference to height. I can see the girls height relative to whenever I was last curious.

In this set up, they seem willing to just keep creeping continuously.

I guess I used to think of the beginning of flower set as the beginning of the end of stretch and flowers stacking as the end of stretch. But I guess I really don't know.

Vert has to play a roll in this too...

Broke up a rootball today.

The media bucket was cut with lots and lots and lots of vertical slits.

There was no wringing of the roots around the pot, although they did grow in the vertical axis parallel to the cuts.

There was a surprisingly uniform distribution of roots throughout the media.

The top ~25% was more thickly matted than the rest of the root zone.

I would not describe the media as root bound.

This is an old close up of the density of cuts in the media container:

I tried to do three things in the same enclosed space:

-Hang flowers.
-Dark shock a transitioning plant.
-Do a neem soil drench.

The end result was a spike in humidity, and an increase in the superficial humidity of the hanging flowers. Two days later, things were pretty much back where they should have been.

Some days later, the end result seems to be cracking stems, without the flowers becoming fragile. Interesting.

I cut off the bottom third of a root ball with an antique wood-saw. Cross section was extremely uniform in root density/distribution. Again, no wringing of roots. There was a bit of matting across the bottom.

People have said a lot of shit about me.

"Blah, blah, he smells like Cheetos."

That ain't true.

I don't even like Cheetos.

They hurt the roof of my mouth.

Like Captain Crunch hurts the roof of the mouth, only day-glow-cheese-dustier.

To set the record straight, I don't have any dealings with Cheetos at all.

Well, if you hear them start jawing on about some bullshit tale about three groundhogs, a bottle of tequila and a humming bird... well, that shit happened.

But I don't want to talk about that.

I didn't walk for two weeks.

Leave it be.

Just thinking about it hurts my damnable earlobes.

And my appendix.

All that aside, anytime someone says that I can't grow some thick stems on some little plants, you ought to know right then and there that they're a goddamn liar:

I can't be bother to expand or explain,

But:

Managing drain to waste has the same fundamental concerns as managing pee.

The reverse statement is also true.

Wow. I just read my last post, and I wish I had taken the time to expand or explain.

What the fuck is that supposed to mean?

This thread needs more pics.

This thread needs more pics.

Number five was defoliated 6 days before flip, and 32-34 days into 12-12. Most of the secondary leaves are close to the flower structure. I don't think I'll have to strip her again except for clean up of old and damaged leaves.

Number six was lightly defoliated 24 days into 12-12. I'm curious to see if that was too soon, and if I'll have to repeat this again later in the cycle.

Should have taken a picture of number six before I pinched her. Wall of foliage. Impenetrable. Like bullet proof glass. Or something more green, less transparent, and easily shot through.

I should have said, "Like a thick wall of lime jello."

Temps are back on track... not trying to grow in the freezer anymore. Humidity is low, but tolerable.

I have non-osculating air pushing from the bottom of the space upward between the plants. This, not surprisingly, is causing some wind burn, but no signs of mold or anything else really nasty.

d9, in his thread, talked about shortening his veg period by not defoliating (and monkeying around with his light period) until after the flowering ladies finished their stretch, then hammering them once.

My youngest lady in 12-12 (seven days?) did not get any real management on my part, except for inner branch nonsense. When I was defoliating to slow down overall size, the internode spacing was too tight with very crowded laterals. To deal with this, I was selectively removing groups of four limbs at a time, to open her up.

By not defoliating, she's gotten the stretch I was looking for both on primary lead, and on secondary spacing. Essentially, she did on her own what I labored to do with the other ladies. (It should be noted that a lot of that management was also intended to slow them down in veg.)

I want to make it clear that I am not saying this is better than that... but in this case, this did just what I was hoping for. Horay for this.

I've been playing around with Dark Shock pre-12-12.

The first DS girl that went in was slow and did not stretch, but that I believe it was largely due to environmental factors (i.e. too low of temps).

I didn't shock the next girl, and she stretched like a champ. But this is when I was getting my temps up.

I did shock the third girl, and she stretched beautifully and appears to be ahead of herself in flower development.

I did not shock the latest, but if I can get it together, I'll shock the next and see if we can get early flower set and loads of stretch (like the girl I was talking about above, she hasn't been stripped yet either).

Whats the saying? Pics or its not so? I have needs!

Finally broke down and picked up some Jacks and Calcnit, 10 years supply for under $90.

Had the illusion of doing a few res changes to test it out before going gung-ho and switching all res's over. Key word "had", ended up topping everything off with the new mix.

I really run my res's way too small, so I figure it will all get diluted and eaten over the next few days. Beats the $#!+ out of doing res changes, I quit doing them a long time ago.

My vPPK experiment using GH nutes has been doing well after the failed OC+ trial.

Thinking about running my vert setup with another variation... same polybag in a bucket in a bucket with a microfiber wick but no res on a 1 min/6 min top fed recirc system. Same freq everything else is on, so no thought there. I have run similar but different ways with good results, so I believe they will work very well?

I have progressed to the point of getting my daily routine down to checking and topping res's 1 time a day, then nothing but play. Hoping Jacks will reduce that to just top offs, then eventually a 55 Gal Drum and No Work...

Hey I have an Imaginary Friend, my thoughts shouldnt surprise ya?

Its not that I dont like the PPK in its current state. Its more of a... getting as close as I can get with the materials I have on hand... with a few modifications to compensate for my shortcommings?

Ah... edited my post whilst you replied.

Look.

I rewrote my post above.

I was doing the old shuffle recently, and had the chance to check a few EC and pH readings.

In 12/12, I have everything plumbed off of 1/2" hose, off of one run from the control.

I was hoping to allow for more exchange bucket to bucket passively, and I seemed to have a leak that I couldn't identify in the old system.

I now suspect the old 'leak' was condensation related.

Anywho, I had a chance to check the numbers from a reservoir that had a girl in there for a couple of months, and one that had been in there a month.

The EC was slightly higher in the older bucket, but the pH was significantly lower.

Disproportionately so. In my humble opinion, I should say.

Or my measuring device is fucked.

Which is a possibility I never rule out.

Which suggests a different ion in concentration in the reservoir of the older plant. One that drops pH more per unit than the total mix.

Doesn't it?

Observation:

Flower material resting against the cool tube without bleaching, suggesting that whatever quantum of light is being emitted to that surface area, it is not maxing out metabolic potential of plant within this system.

Time to bump it up to 2K?
