You can't tell me nuclear technology isn't evil.

It sure does make cheap electricity but where do we store the evil, I'm sorry, I mean... um... neutral toxic waste?

The first thing we did with it was destroy.... I'm not saying we aren't trying to help ourselves with it now... but it certainly does stand to reason that advanced technology is evil in the hands of those not prepared for it.

Keep a view ;)

It isn't the technology that makes nuclear technology evil but rather the application of it. Would nuclear technology seem as evil to you if it was never used to make bombs and wasn't used for energy until we developed a safe way of dealing with the waste?

It was man that decided to use it as a weapon even before he understood all the risks and it is man who uses it for energy even though we haven't come up with completely safe ways to dispose of the waste, therefore it is man who is evil not technology.

Yes I'm very sorry and issue all and any types of apologies.

I just took it one step further and thought that man made the technology evil.

Opinions seem to be rather difficult to handle these days.

Opinions are fine, having a different definition is equally as fine as long as you are consistent. Thats why I asked if tornadoes, hamburgers, oxygen, etc were equally as evil. Consistency is the key :) Just because we disagree with your opinion doesn't mean we don't think you should have the freedom to have it or express it, we simply think you are wrong. Lol. :) Cheers brother!

The Google Lunar X Prize offers a $20 million award for the first commercial firm to reach the surface of the Moon, travel 500 meters and send high-definition imagery to Earth. The grand prize is scheduled to decrease to $15 million after any government-funded mission explores the lunar surface. The X Prize Foundation of Playa Vista, Calif., also plans to award $5 million to the second-place team as well as $4 million in bonus prizes for completing a variety of objectives including nighttime operations, traveling more than 5 kilometers on the lunar surface, detecting water and landing near an Apollo site. Any prizes left unclaimed expire at the end of 2015, according to the X Prize website.
$20 mil is joke though compared to what it's gonna cost to actually do that.

I'd like to see someone land near the first lunar module and take some pics so we can really see if man has landed on the moon...lol. I watched that on TV back in '69 and hate to think I was hoodwinked.

Anyway...cool link and yeah eventually I do see that there will be some operations on the moon. I keep thinking about that movie Moon.

the energy Devil has popped out here, see this in a lot of threads
but it's kind of near topic since an energy solution could be space based(?)
nuclear is a bit of a tough sell right now, with the Japanese 'melt down'
but nuclear could be the 'one', but understood why many don't want it/hate it
don't hate the principle, just the practice, light water reactors are the evil
much better can be done, mighty interesting read in the recent Scientific American, describes micro nuclear
takes out the big pile of nuclear fuel, micro reactions triggered by laser
so no BIG meltdown, tiny at worst, some waste, but much better than current tech

Only if you think your opinions are above comment.

well this is a valid topic, it would be awesome if we did have a brown dwarf or low mass red dwarf star as a companion to our sun, but it is not especially likely.

Hey have you guys heard of Comet Elenin? (conspiracy theory site warning!) I was surprised to read the whole thread and see no mention. My spacenut friend reassures me it's nothing to worry about but the alignments/earthquakes thing seems kinda freaky.

From what I understand, things are rapidly picking up pace in the space exploration field. Paypal dude has got big things brewing, for example.

Space is loaded with all kinds of stuff. I heard the other day that all gold originally comes from stars exploding, just as an example. We could easily survive if we got the technology together. To be honest though, I don't see how space settlement could work, and I have a hard time explaining this to my spacefriend, but if we can't survive on a bountiful planet like Earth, where earth takes up a lot of the slack, how could we survive in a largely artificial environment where we are responsible for every single facet of our survival? There would just be more things to fight and war over. I dunno, I just can't see it working long term.

it's a tough problem, it wouldn't be easy, but it might be possible
the 'classic' space habitat are hallowed out asteroids
get them spinning and you get an artificial gravity
cover the inside with water and pulverized stone and plants, you get a habitat(with all that cheap solar that is always on)
getting all of this to work would be, well, priceless - both in cost and payout

According to a group of American researchers, including some amateur astronomers who have access to good telescopes, knocking the rumors that the comet Elenin, between September and December the Earth in proportion are very close will be, not a comet but a huge dwarf star least 80,000 km in diameter (in comparison, the Earth has a diameter of about 12,750 km). If they are right, then all humanity will prepare for extremely dramatic, even apocalyptic events that had not yet four months will explode (1).

Dr. Byron Glenn is a doctor and is the leader of the American Ozark survival group. He has access to an expensive telescope that he and son, an engineer, went in search of the onrushing comet Elenin, who this month at a distance of 1.8 AU (about 270 million kilometers) of our planet. Glenn would end in May the 'comet' are located. As he zoomed in on the object, however, he realized that he looked for a massive object: a dwarf star, known as Planet X or Nibiru.

The dwarf star itself is not visible, but the outline, however, could be inferred from the effect caused by the gravity of 'dancing' stars in the background. After further zoomed to have Dr. Glenn saw a red planetary object, along with lunar-like satellites of the proton cloud around the dwarf star. "I know the doctor for a while," says Terral, member of the research, "but this is the first time I pure fear in his voice heard. He has literally seen a sample of biblical proportions. "

According Terral is now '100% certain 'that the arrival of a ELEnin ELE : Extinction Level Event = "Extinction Level Event" will occur. After the planetary conjunction ELEnin Sun-Saturn-6 and July 7 will dwarf star ever closer around August 1 and reach Earth's orbit on August 18 that of Venus and of Mercury around September 1. At that moment the object on the left half of the Sun as Sun can become visible. Starting in August and September that we can Terral therefore an enormous increase in the number of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tidal waves and massive livestock deaths expected.

Terral expects more photos of ELEnin Internet to place, so everyone is clear that not a comet but a dwarf star. "If everyone would be aware of what's to come we would be total confusion and panic in the streets and would collapse the whole society into chaos."

On March 11, 2011 were the Sun, Earth and ELEnin on a line. Despite the great distance, this conjunction have caused the earthquake in Japan. That has to do with so-called "magnetic gates" that the Earth and other planets invisibly connecting with the Sun (see NASA website ). If celestial bodies are aligned magnetic compounds that enhance each other, according to some earthquakes may result.

On Sept. 11, exactly 10 years after the attacks in New York, will ELEnin / Planet X, the Sun begins its closest approach and the dwarf star in a new 3500 or 3600-year orbit. On September 26, the distance between the Earth and ELEnin only 0.396 AU (59.4 million kilometers) and some expected a pole reversal on our planet due to the enormous magnetic field of the dwarf star. According to some calculations, ELEnin / Planet X than three days long exactly between the Earth and the Sun are responsible, which could cause three days darkness (2).

We were created from star material. The larger elements our bodies are built from were manufactured in a star from lighter elements that came from the big bang.
The energy we 'use' (transform) here on earth, came from space.

We come from space. As an intelligent species, we must explore space. In the process we have developed countless, priceless technologies for everyday use here on earth. In addition to that, we have gathered immense amounts of data about our solar system, galaxy and universe further answering questions about who we are and what the hell us and the animals and planets are doing here!!
Putting a stop to space exploration is putting a stop to human/technological advancement. Maybe not today, but someday.

With that said, space exploration is not what it used to be. It is transferring to the private sector now (guaranteed). With the private sector dumping money into without political BS and government policy, space exploration will be cheaper, more reliable, more profitable for America (more jobs) and it will grow exponentially to the point where people look back and no one denies the benefits of easy access to space just as we today look back at sea faring exploration.
