What's new

Leighs 6Kw DIY project...the here and now, but certain to change

Great work. But I hope your upper pots soil will stay below 24 celcius. I guess it could rise up to 25-30 Celcuis up there in earlie growth which is bad for your plant.

Still alive and kickin'...I can answer a couple Q's while I wait for a couple pics to load.

Cuz I was fairly sure this exact setup would be only for this run, I didn't bother with plumbing. Everything is hand watered with a small pump and 20ft of 1/2" flexy hose with a shut off valve and 1/2" cpvc wand on the end.
The WOG is perlite/vermiculite in regular 1gal pots, runoff comes to one end and a rag helps contain and guide that runoff into a bucket on the floor.
The tables have the IRB's. Runoff into a bucket.

As seen thus far...the lights were hung high as I just finished working...you'll see the proper hung height in future pics.

The whole room, top to bottom is at 23.5-24C...but I can set that temp anywhere I want with the 3fan chiller.

Yeah Bro.....nuthin written in stone , and as long as yas can handle the work load and enjoy the down time between runs , then it`s all good.....

I was a greedy fuck and needed shit runnin all the time , but could only trim X amount on my pre-determined weekends ta chop , so it`s all in what works for the individual right ?....

I`ve got growbro`s that sell cuts to the clubs in SoCal and run 256 3" rockwool cubes in 4 x 4 flood tables or 512 in 4 x 8`s with parabolic unvented 1KW`s over said tables and NEVER pull less than 4 lbs per light , but it`s with dialed strains they`ve worked with since `95 or so....on flat grows ta boot.....

It`s a numbers game vertical OR horizontal if yas got a clone factory ta supply yer bloom rooms.....and they do....not for everyone , but it`s doable....

Good luck on whatchas figure out....Holler if I can help....

Peace...DHF....:ying:....

Thx and indeed, indeed...we've always preferred to work hard for a couple/few days at a time and have it easy in between.
But I think I'm about to change that...upping the plant count is going to require a perpetual harvest strategy. Not only for work load, but to help with the cut supply. Much easier for Buddy to give me 400 at a time than 800...so I'ma split the harvest in two. One room, 8K, always on 12/12 but chop half the room at a time.

3" cubes = 16 per sqft, 4" cube is 9...there's no way I could do 16per...9 is possible if I split the room into 3chops per cycle......but here's a number I'm thinkin' about goin' with. I have these 5.25" square pots that would allow me 4.95 plants per sqft.....fill the pots with those little 1/4" square pieces of rockwool, Grow-Cubes by Grodan, and flood&drain. OR...put the cuts into 3" cubes but space them out as needed and fill in between the cubes with a 1" layer of the loose fill Grow-Cubes...flood&drain.

I have dropped the idea of drilled out PVC pipes...an open table allows me a very adjustable plant count...once the pipes are drilled, not so free to alter spacing...

Wow Leigh I love the custom hand watering wand. Maybe I missed it somewhere earlier in the thread but is that hooked up to a electric/hand pump?

I was thinkin' of lining the room walls with 4" pvc pipes and running it RSWC like Heaths octagon but a huge rectangle like his dual 600w....plant count in the 4-500 range....

About a month from now I'll have exactly what you decribed set up...without that plant count your aimin' for though. Great looking room you've got going there. Can't wait to see it blow up.

Hey Leigh

Few questions

1- How did you mount the shelves at an angle. and what did you use for the raised edge on the shelf?
2- Is the shelf angled slightly for runoff?
3- I'm guessing there's an airstone in those IRB's

Looks good man and thanks very much for sharing.

Great advice on the glasses and hat. Need to start wearing mine.
