What's new

heath inspired test prototype (aero)

I really tried to come up with a way to plumb these units in a way so i could have a res outside of the grow room like you and heath did. But with this aero setup and pvc piping, it would of been a large task. And the pvc would have to be attached and it would be near impossible to get inside the square. Unless i had quuick disconnects everywhere. So i had to go with each wall on its own res design.

Did i mention these bitches are a pain to build?? lol I have arthritis and cuttin those bucket holes have left my arm hangin like a limp noodle. LOL

But the good thing is ..once there done there done! and i can use them forever. I just hope all this blood sweat and tears is worth it.

Looks Real Good Cat - I am way into it.

I did breeze through the thread from start but forgot some things. Looks like for you, automation is an important factor, and no doubt, these "aero walls" are a tip top device

What deterred you from a hydro top feed? Just want to dial in extraordinary results?

And for flower your planning on running two 'cubes'? Realy looking forward to hearing about your successes with this and the grams/watt you will have achieved! Keep It Up FC :)

Thanks Flux,

I started growin 2 years ago. I only know aero. Its what i learned, and really the only way i know how to grow.. So i figured go with what i know.

Ultimately i will have 2 cubes and a mother room. The main reason i started thinking of going vert is the price of electricity.

If i can get things dialed.. i will cut my ebill in half and get much higher yields.

Why dont you construct a PVC/Panda Plastic tent to go around the set up like I did?
I didnt need to make a tent in my room but found the extra light reflection/smell control and ability to have the reservoirs outside the tent to be a better idea than non-tented. Easy to make too. Mine is with the cheap 1/2 PVC piping and the panda plastic was only $20.

you should see the 1 we are building. its going to have 16 trays 4 trays per wall 4 plants per tray... these are the trays im using... going to order a 100gal rez for it aswell.

I think the temps will be fine in the new room. Im insulating, and going to be running extraction fans set on thermostatic controls in and out. Ill also have a mini split just in case. . My vert reservoirs are all low on the cement covered with reflectix.. I noticed the res temps in my vert rack is lower then my horizontal aero units. (beacuse its fully covered , unlike the horizontal unit)

Should be good to go.

Now i just need to find some good strains to run.

PNC closed!! suks!

Absolutely brilliant FC! I'm excited to see your "aerobucket-box" once it's completed!

For strain choice, they all sound great! I would go with something with little stretch so you get the most even canopy coverage and penetration. Something manageable that responds well to topping etc, but I'm sure you know what you need.

Question Time!
1)Did you ever think of going with say 1gal pots and just more of them, if so what made you go with the 2gals?

Thanks for posting your ideas, Much love. -M.

Strains I like and have grown;

Granddaddy Purple (great medicinal value and good yield)
Blue Dream - excellent stretcher and great smoke
SSH - Always a winner
Green Crack - isn't this a hybrid IF it is I think it would be great for a vert grow, I've heard nothing but good things about this strain.

DOc Diesel and DHF are always suggesting either 1) hybrids or 2) Diesels for their stretch (you need a strain to stretch a bit for vertical grows) and yields are decent also. Once you pick a really good strain, then mono - crop it and ring the bell! Ca- ching if your trying to pay bills and make some extra change, if your just doing ot for yourself then pick whatever floats ur boat.

Good luck FC.

Thanks murph. You could easily go with 1gal pots, and probably get 8 across on each row. It would take some experimenting with pump sizes to find the right pressure to power that many sprayers. I did think about that, but i wanted to mess around with the 2 gallon size with more plant spacing.

Im about 5 weeks in flower on this test run. I now know that more veg time is needed.

Yo Mega..hows it bro? I picked up some strains and im picking up some more soon. I went with c99, and g13. I already have green crack. The green crack would have been my first choice to run in this test run , but at the time all i had was one clone that survived after i forgot to plug my pump in after some maintainance. I did manage to save it and its almost now ready to start vegging to become a mother.

My next clone pick up is blue dream, hindu kush and J1. Im gonna run alot of different strains until i find the one or ones that really do well.

Im slowly getting the other walls built..(did i mention? these units are a pain in the ass to build?)!

The j1 I can vouch for( ran it wish I still had it 7up lemon lime goodness) , just stretchy though. No on the green crack or blue dream(these wont move in cali), or hogsbreath(if its from pnc like it sounds.)

Oh, very interresting.
I used his "Vertical flooded tube" system thread as an inspiration to my grow.
So im in on this one :p

Cayt,,its true the clubs are flooded with that. But the club i deal with exclusively and my script/patients like anything that comes out good. There is ailments that any strain can help with.

Mega... are you saying that stretchy plants will yeild better in my setup? I always assumed that short bushy (but trimmed)indica dominant strains would be better?

Hey Fc, love blue dream a personal favorite of mine in fact!
I will follow with interest as I have decided to build the older HR side feed system, but maybe with more veg time than Heath, will also be adding a screen to the mix....

.......So if you plan to have two boxes, does that mean you will have 8 of those pumps going? noisy huh? How long do you think you will veg next time for, do you have a specific goal in mind per box? Keep rockin. -M.

Ps. Yo Mega, nice day today huh? lol

Yea 8 pumps..noise wont be an issue where im at. I think 2 weeks veg might just be the ticket! Im hopin to eventually get 1oz
a plant.
On a side note.. does anyone think filling the buckets maybe half or a quarter full of hydroton rocks might be beneficial? My roots are growin into the raingutters (i knew they would). Thought the rocks might help contain them inside the buckets better?
