I ordered a sunlight supply 150 watt light, a ph meter *electronic!!!!***and a digital timer for the light...I know im missing the ph up and down..the fans (*have a couple of computer fans that ima throw in there..) and debating whether i want to paint the inside white or get that one film that goes inside..let me know what you think :) thanks oh and im only gonna attempt to grow 2-3 plants

Welcome to ICMag!

With all that talk of pH I guess you are planning hydro? White paint or mylar. . to be honest I don't think there's much in it. Mylar is more reflective. Paint is more durable.

Good luck! I'm sure the age of the timber will contribute to the flavour like an old port barrel for scotch whisky.

haha lets hope thats how it goes :)

and im debating which one to do hydro or regular soil....which is best for a first time grower?

Personally I'd just start with soil. You can't go far wrong with a decent multi-purpose compost. Quite forgiving and the only startup costs are the compost and pots. The reason I asked is that the pH meter is essential for hydro but you can live without it for soil.

Even for soil it may be useful to check the pH of your water where you grow to know if anything needs adjusting but until that point I wouldn't worry about pH up or down. Other than that I would just put the meter away until you find use for it.

If you update us on how you get on then you'll probably find that people will help when you come into problems. Have you got an idea about how you are going to deal with the smell?

Soil it is!!! I think thats what ill go with. Im not to sure I have seen some DIY but I saw these carbon filters at walmart thats like a pannel..what if i put those on all four walls? and then have the fans blowing directly to them?

or let me see what you think of this idea,,,,,,okay u see the holes i have in the bottom? well what if i put one of those panels underneath that then have fan on the other side to suck the air in an vent out that way it passes through the carbon filter?

Interesting idea with the filter walls. The flow will need to pass through the filters in order to work. Having the filters leaned against the walls won't really do anything unless they present the only way for air to flow through the cab.

The first problem with that is light proofing I'd imagine. But, if you can replace each wall with a carbon filter, light proof it and seal for leaks then I guess there is nothing stopping you using a positive pressure system with a fan blowing into the cab and forcing it out through the filters.

Bit complex and unneccesary though.

The holes (maybe enlarged a bit for more flow) would make fine passive intakes so long as there is a gap under the cab to let air get in. You could then work something out with a fan on the top pushing or pulling through one of those panels? Extracting hot air from top and letting cool air in from bottom is always preferred.

If you look in the DIY LINK O RAMA there are some ideas and I think I have seen others around the forums.

First Seed Sprouting... :) Didn't use store bought soil, took it from my backyard. Where I live its known for agriculture. This ones just a test anyways, Im going to buy some clones. It was a seed I found in some mid grade. :)

3 days in soil so far..

Ive had it in the window sill..While I wait for my lights to come in..

That's a nice result. Pretty quick germination. Hard to see your soil but it looks like it could be quite nice. Have a look at the organic soil forums here. You won't need to bother with nutrients for the first few weeks probably and then you will have the choice of either going organic topdress or teas - possibly with stuff you already have access to - or buying nutrients.

Don't discount the bagseed; the quality of the bud it came in can heavily be determined by how it is grown and more importantly how it is dried, cured (if at all) and packaged. What you grow may be much better than the weed it came from in other words.

be very careful bringing outdoor soil inside.
If you do, make sure you cook it for a while to kill any insects/eggs/fungi/etc. You might want to test it also to see what the soil PH and nutrient level is like. Last thing a newb needs is nute lock out from soil that is not in the range needed for cannabis.
Otherwise Good Luck on your first grow.

Yeah, Im waiting on my Ph tester...Supposed to be here today, but USPS never comes on time. Wish I did that before it started growing :/

It's cool dude. Everyone learns. Hell this is going to be my 28th season and I'm still learning.
I would suggest reading all you can, ask questions and most of all don't skimp when it comes to getting the items you need. Trying to do 'ghetto' grows doesn't always work out like one wants, leaving some frustrated and walking away from such a great hobby.

Picked up a couple cfls (4) 19 watt. Ill take pictures tomorrow after I paint and put in and install them. Also snagged a thermometer, some peat pots, and some miracle grow plant feed.

A lot of folk round here are going to tell you to steer clear of miracle grow. Couldn't advise personally in this case though.

Try and look out a hygrometer (if it is not part of your thermometer) if you can. Once your cab is finished it is always best to let it run for at least a day to see what the temperature and humidity is like.

I thought you were going to use a 150W HID?

Oh I am without a doubt gonna run the 150watt HID but I'm waiting on it to come in the mail.

Yeah I know my girlfriend just grabbed a feed. An low an behold it was MG. Darn

Nothing wrong w/ MG as long as you don't use too much. Your dirt will pack in containers enough to retard root growth.

IMO, you need about 10 to 15% sand mixed in to prevent packing.

Get a bag of powdered dolomite lime and add 1 tablespoon per gallon of soil/sand mix.

Get a bag of perlite and mix it ~20 to 25% with the soil/sand/lime mix.

Put some of your mix in a small pot. Add enough 7pH water to get a measurable amount of runoff.

If your test approaches 6.5, you'll have 6.8 by the time the lime is activated. Not too hot, not too sweet.

Since you've got a space to grow, HID lighting and clones in the plan, do yourself a favor and grow with potting soil.

It doesn't have to be the $20/bag stuff either.

There's a few bags of crap out there but by and large it's how well you lime whatever you buy. Most potting soils are too hot for weed, even if they contain lime. IME, they typically test <6.0. You'll need 6.5 to 6.8 to keep problems at bay.

Some potting soils contain ferts. You'll have to compensate with the MG to avoid over feeding.
