SSCDH F2 to F3

The best pack of cannabis seeds I've bought to date has been Rez's Supersilverchemdoghaze (SSCDH), a union of his old school Greenhouse SSH and a Chem male generated from backcrosses to the Chem D clone. I justified the high sticker price with the potential they held for future generations. Not really understanding the ins and outs of breeding seeds, I figured with excellent parents the F2's should produce many desirable plants as well. Even if I ran into a good bit of variation I could find nice sativa and indica leaning phenos for mothers.
The F1's exceeded my expectations, every female in the pack was a standout in some regard with a solid yield of dense aromatic sticky white buds that finished in a reasonable 70 days. The Chem influence in the smell, taste and high was more prevalent than any I've found in the F2's, more of a knockout stone with an earthy, meaty funk in taste and smell.
The F2's were the result of an open pollination with the three males staying in the tent with the remaining seven females. The seeds were collected from the seven mothers and combined. Because the males matured faster than the females only early lower buds were pollinated, each plant mothering about 25 seeds leaving me about 300 to work with. Gives a nice feeling of security to pop 30 seeds and have so many left over the loss isn't even noticeable. Even better when they're easy to grow into quality plants of lemon-scented chemy-hazy crystal-covered goodness. Perhaps it is switching from coco and GH to organic soil, but three of the four plants I recently harvested had distinct real lemon aroma and taste that wasn't in the F1. If not the change in medium, the Chem influence seems to be less present so maybe lemon is coming from the Super Silver Haze or whatever the Chem D was outcrossed to.
While not as overwhelming as the F1, the F2's provide a solid balanced relaxed yet clear and stimulating stone. Classic comfortable 'broken-in' high when you have some tolerance. Profoundly alters consciousness when taken with a low tolerance. Very suitable for meditation, contemplation, art and music appreciation/creation, spending time outside, hanging out with friends--basically good all around pot, that's been my impression so far.

After a few test grows I've decided to dedicate my last grow before summer vacation to these SSCDH F2. Now I have 29 seedlings above soil which I plan to document in this thread. I'm considering making some F3's for server fund/freebies if people like how they perform in this test grow. If there is something worth sharing I'm happy to share, let's put it that way.
Good vibes all. :wave:

nice jester bro with the server fund i would ask for them now without your test run the genetics are there ill be following along

IMO, the F2 generation and beyond is where the really interesting phenos start to show up. I'm running some F2's of the LUI x Blue Moonshine I made last year. So far, the F2's are a big improvement on the F1 and exceeding my expectations in density and frost production. F3's are definitely in the future. I'd bet crossing the two would be stellar.

wayfarer, that sounds awesome.

Perhaps the SSH or Chemdog had some lemon flavor in it(recessive or codominant genetics). In the F1 seeds, those traits would have been split up. In the F2 seeds you made, those traits will re-appear. Even if none of the parents showed the traits for lemon, it still could have been hiding in one of them.

Can you, or have you, breed the plant(s) with this flavor, that would be a cool lemon flavored line to have and breed with.

Good luck on the test grow.

Peace

Awesome! Just make sure to use a fair amount of Progeny of the f2 generation (multiple stand out females and at least the double amount of males) so you can find some receissive plants in the f3 :D

Here's a quick shot of early development. My lights were a bit too far away in the early seedling stage causing some stretch, but they're holding themselves up pretty well without support nonetheless. I'm gonna give them their first feed and in a few days I'll transfer them into one liter bottles, veg for another week or two and then throw them into the flower tent for sexing, transplant again, then SOG.

Thanks for tuning in. It will probably be a fairly open pollination, seeing if anything else unexpected pops up before focusing in on any particular breeding goal. The lemon is really coming through in the jars with a nice high and flavor that will continue to improve as it cures.

Yea, I've got a nice cut of SSCDH that I don't see going anywhere soon! She's a keeper...wish you would of kept that super SSH leaning pheno, though!

Heres a pic of mine so far...

I still have a full pack of Rez's SSCDH that I got from a good buddy! One of these days...

Packed a bowl to do this update and I've just been sitting here kind of blissed out of my mind for the past 15 minutes thinking at first how good the weed was and then contemplating the physics of light and the buddhist concept of empty appearance or empty luminosity, just smiling and buzzing into the egoless void until I remembered about writing the update--after a couple of puffs my plans had flown straight out the window. Not that there's a whole lot to add. Just transplanted, as they were starting to look a little hungry and cramped and they are perking up already. Pretty easy to manage and tolerant of abuse with a damn good buzz that can cut through tolerance to delight and amuse.

Been awhile since last updating, nothing too exciting happening so far. After flipping to 12/12 and sorting out the males and females, I took a wider view of the project and decided not to rush into making seeds this run. I want to continue exploring the genetics, growing out more females, sampling the flowers, identify the keeper phenos and work with those with a number of good looking males. This run has shown a bit more variation, with a couple hazy sativa phenos showing up and a couple stout plants with wider leafs. It would be interesting, I think, to isolate the indica and sativa phenos and explore how traits of the high combine in the more commonly occurring mixed phenos. Exploring the genetics should give a sense of what to focus on in the next generation, rather than lazily doing another open pollination and hoping for the best as I had planned.

Finally pulled the plants out for a photo. The lights went out before I could pose them and focus on individual traits. Some deficiencies were evident so I started giving them some Roots Organics food and supplements in light doses to see how they respond. I think they are about week 5 or 6 of flowering. The sativa phenos are growing along side the sea of green with supplemental CFL lights. They are not included in the group shot. The second photo was crudely edited to take out some of the orange light from the HPS.

Pollen got out--> = F3

Pollen got out--> = F3

Looks like some pollen got out of the closet where the males finished up--a few of the SSCDH F2 have big swollen seed pods. These F3's just wanted to happen, so a more carefully selected version may make an interesting comparison to this accidental batch somewhere down the line. Smells on the plants are lemon and mild chem for the most part. The sativa pheno has a sweeter fruitier aroma. No real stand-outs in the frost department yet. This is plant is pretty average representation of what they look like up close. Thanks for looking. Observations and advice definitely welcome. Peace.
