YES.............Cortisone shots...very effective for the banged up....and Hyper extended jointZ....BUT, once U start U will need them for the rest of U'r life....... STEROIDS will also work for joint~pain......

Sorry, but that statement is simply incorrect.
Cortisone can only be used for brief periods because of the side effects. No doctor would prescribe cortisone for a lengthy time, let alone the rest of your life.
Also, cortisone IS a steroid.

They will probably at a minimum do to your knees what they do to my back. A small incision and then they'll go in and use a laser to bust up the pieces that are floating around locking up the joints.

I guess they are coming up with some replacements that will last a little longer than the first ones...... Getting older is grand my friend.....

I agree JJScorpio, getting older is grand and I always have tried to rejoice no matter the way of the times and a little good herb goes well toward the cause for me

love the forums,thanks

Im still pretty young, but broke my knee and tore my ACL when i was 16 and needed a couple surgerys, it sucked, my knee still isnt close to the same, i walk with a slight limp everyday. It was the same process as you described, i only have three little scars on my knee instead of a big slash. My lower back is already giving me lots of pain from 10 years of landscaping..

And im still in my twentys..i cant even imagine 20-30 years from now..

{There's some concern that repeated use of cortisone shots may cause deterioration of the cartilage within a joint.}

and for this reason i say never again will i accept these shots i recieved these shots weekly in 1992-93. now my back is even more wasted

in 1983 i had a extra large wooden pallet for king size matteress fall across both knees my right knee taken the brunt of it. i woke up in the ambulance over a yr ago my right knee started acting up for no reason and still dose today. although i'm currently out i was gifted some MMJ salve and it worked nicely swelling went down i was abel to place all my weight on knee and leg. as long as the low pressure systems stay away i can walk with hardly a limp, ive noticed i'm in less back and knee pain when high pressure systems are around. only when the low pressure systems come into town do i really hurt

as for work done on my knee to correct problem no havent had done

i was 23 yr old was rearended on a motorcycle wound up with and still have 2 stainless screws in left ankel holdn it together.

i was 32 and almost went through my 67 chevy vans front windshield compressed L3,4,5,6 didnt fully rupture the discs was told borderline herniated.

im currently 48 yrs old liven with daily pain that i manage with whats from my MJ garden

i wish you the best of luck with the descision you make on your treatment

2 or 3 times a year my knees especially the left one get quite bad, doc wants to operate but I'm too young for that mid 30's.
A couple of guys I know had the operation and regret it.

Until they knacker out completely it's a home made rub of origanum vulgaris oil mixed with poteen (irish moonshine made from spuds) and off to bed with a few g's of weed.

Update:

I managed to get the MRI Scan done 2 days ago....and saw the orthopeadic consultant today.....he says I have a slight tear/fraying of the MENISCUS ....and showing signs of Arthritis...

The menisci:

Each knee joint contains a medial and lateral meniscus (inner and outer meniscus). These are thick 'rubbery' pads of cartilage tissue. They are C shaped and become thinner towards the middle of the joint.

The menisci cartilage sit on top of, and are in addition to, the usual thin layer of cartilage which covers the top of the tibia. The menisci act as 'shock absorbers' to absorb the impact of the upper leg on the lower leg and also help to improve smooth movement and stability of the knee. When people talk about a 'cartilage injury' to a knee, they usually mean an injury to one of the menisci.

....so the Doc recommended that I have a Hyrdocortisone Cocktail (mixed with a local anaestetic)....this coming friday...egh!....I hate injections!..and that later he would probably recommend me for an arthroscopy to clean out all the stuff thats floating around in my knee joint...

Ask your Doc if Synvisc is an option. Those cortizone shots always hurt more than they were worth imo.

Synvisc is derived from a natural source and is slippery than teflon.

Gypsy, The cortisone injection's are not that bad in the least. You will experience little or no pain at all. However, the injections will only offer you temporary relief from the problem you have. You may get only a few days, weeks, or months of relief, before you'll need more injections.

You need to have your knee scoped & have all the rubbish cleaned-out like the surgeon suggested, and get the inevitable fix for good.

Last summer I went through disc replacement surgery in my lower lumbar, and the procedure requires them to cut my gut wide-open and and go through my stomach to replace the damaged disc in my lower back. Although the surgery went well, there was a several day hospital stay, and months of rehab which was long & painful.

Having a knee scoped is a non-invasive procedure today, you will go home the same day, and heal quick! Unless you develop an infection you'll be fine!

Sounds like all that "Kung Fu" shit you have done for Donkey Years now, has finally taken it's toll on your knees brother.

Welcome to the failing faculties club my good man!

Gypsy,

I was a competitive ski racer who had a certain fondness for jumping off large cliffs.Needless to say I flagrantly abused my knees and I was told that I would have to have surgery by two different surgeons. I couldn't really find a good time to schedule it...

A friend suggested acupuncture and damn if it didn't work! I now go in for one or two appointments and I am good for 6-8months. No ibuprofen or anything else. I would try one acupuncturist and if you don't get relief after 2 treatments try a different one, you will still be way ahead of the game financially. Like everyone else all acupuncturists are not created equal. BTW the needles are so tiny you can tie them in a knot, and they are prepackaged and completely sterile. Good luck old man.

Yesterday I went to have this Cortisone Cocktail injection.......and for 15 seconds as the needle went in on a pain scale of 1-10......I reckon it was a 9....Ouch!

.....but almost immediately RELIEF!!!.....AND MY KNEE DOES NOT HURT ANYMORE!!!

.....I feel much better and am not a grumpy old bastid any more....Hooray!

....The Doc said that the relief could last for up to 6 months, and when the knee starts hurting again we will re-evaluate the situation and possibly have this Arthroscopy (key-hole surgery) to clean up and loose bits of cartiledge floating about and possibly trim the Meniscus.....since there could be a 'beak' of it in the knee that causes it to lock-out....

Thanks to all who have chimed in on this thread to offer advice and/or compassion.....I have learned alot about dodgey knees and hope your knees are all doing well and don't go wonky on you....lol

So glad to hear you are feeling better mate, you deserve some relief! Cortisone works wonders, just make sure to drink plenty of good clean mineral water and take it easy for a bit!

Sending you good vibes for continued health & healing brother. I would assume you have some good quality Cannabis or Hash to help with any inflammation. If not, you are always welcome to some of mine anytime! You would have to fly over here though lol :canabis:

Glad for you Gypsy that the Pain relief been taken care off.Just be more careful turning and twisting while your knee is being bent.

I used to run 25 miles a week for say 2 years and got a job at the toyota plant and as you know the assembly line keeps moving at a slow clip.I had to work in the car while it was moving and get out while it was moving.I was installing the visors in the car. After 1 month working on that particular job,it also micro-teared my meniscus on the outside of my knee and I was shocked that running would have build up some sort of strength in my legs.

Now I know why the guy before me wore a leg brace.

We all have to be careful with A meniscus tear. It's usually caused by twisting or turning quickly often with the foot planted while the knee is bent.Or heavy sports.

Careful getting out of your jag since you're a big man.And those car really stoop low. :tiphat:

This sounds great well sorta LOL .. I would also take atleast 1200mg of Glucosamine Condroitin/ Sulfate if you find the MSM take this aswell and I would do a saturtion dose in the beginning and stay with it as it works by building up the cartlilge in the knee and all cartilage for that matter . I hope it works out for ya bro peace out Headband707:)
