So now on to the returns...

Now I'm a little scared of blocked drains, so I use three of them per tank.. 1 would prob do the job though... the drains also determine the water level which should be around the bottom of your inner tank.. Mines a little higher which explains the holes up the side of my 4Gal tank..

Hey Billy I have a few questions if you don't mind. How do you drain the solution completely when doing a res change? With the water under the drain level. Another thing is, how are those drain fittings installed? Or what would be the name of that part that attaches to the tank? Does it contain a screen or anything?

One of my biggest wonders about RDWC is how to set up the drains in a way to not to worry about possible clogs.

I am not sure what exactly he is using for his drain fittings. I used 2 inch male and female electrical conduit adapters with an o-ring attached. I have not had any problems with leaks so far. Make sure if you go this route that you get the grey electrical adapters and not the white PVC ones. The PVC ones do not allow for a tight enough seal. They have a lot of sizes so get what you need. Here is an example of them

female http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/CANTEX-Female-Adapter-4FYA8?Pid=search

I am also not sure how he drains his system. I think that I read that he adds water but doesn't do a complete change. I could be absolutely confused about that though. I have 2 feed line pumps. One powers the feed line that is above the water with the "T" for waterfall effect. The other feed line feeds water as low as I could get the adapters. The second one is what I use to drain my system. I just disconnect the pump and hook it up in reverse so the once feed lines turn into temporary drain lines.

Thanks a lot Feijao! Funny how the electrical fittings seal better than PVC.

Maybe I should of choose my words better. PVC seals just as good its just that they don't screw together all the way leaving a gap between the wall of the container and the adapters. The electrical conduit screws tight all the way leaving no gap at all.

Does anyone have a comprehensive parts source list for North America? Grainger has some interesting tanks that could be used as the passive res; but the prices are steep. Mind you, I've never had that volume of liquid in my basement before and the peace of mind factor may well justify the cost. For me, it's the tanks and plant containers that are most problematic.

On a related note, is anyone aware of companies that will provide residential insurance coverage to medical growers in Canada? Taking a look at the exceptions in my policy has led me to believe that even Aunt Polly's potted begonias could be used to deny payment; let alone an RDWC system.

They always say the simple difference between being good as something as compared to great is simply a matter of attention to detail.

Congrats on this fine display of attention.

Hi all,
sorry haven't had much time for updates...
But thanks for all the compliments and comments etc...

Stagetek, I can't help with parts outside the UK I'm afraid, sure some others will have some info...

merkisamok, Mold can be a problem with the bigger buds, so I keep lots of air moving through the room with large intake and exhaust fans, I also keep the air moving around the plants with a oscillating fan.. I've never had a problem with PM, but I never say never..
I've also never heard of bushmaster...These have been fed with RO water and Canna Aqua A+B thats all... I've probably used around 20ml of PH- from start to (almost) finish...

How much air do you move?
I'm building my own filters and will not be going with the 2 inch thick cause I believe one inch will flow more....is there a point where to much intake flow is redundant, that circulating fans really do their job?

Looks great Billy.

I'd love to see any more pics you have, and would also be interested if you're willing to share your GPW. Seems like a very efficient setup. Always loved Heath's tree grows.
