The Skunk we got in Seattle for $240 in the early 80s was superb. It was grown indoors as well. I rarely see weed that is grown as good now as back then. In the early 80s there were less growers, there was no internet and a lot of people just didn't know how to do it. Now the world is flooded with people doing it and I see a lot of weed that is not cut at the right time, not grown well, not cured and many times not even dry.

And Hightimes.. although it was all we really had back in the day (before the internet) it was always a rag mag with hyped up bullshit and lots of stupid stories to fill space to make publication deadlines. It is worse now. Fake bud and hash and Isomerizers that turned shit weed into fire. It use to be the source for metal halide lights for many too.

But wait.. that is not even my point.. the point is this; If the kush of yore was made by elves, grown in Afghanistan, made in a basement or from seeds at a GD concert don't matter.... Unless you got clones from the dude at the time and kept them alive all this time you don't got it. Mothers die, fathers die, people fuck up, people get busted, and any seeds that come from the original are dead and any progeny from those have reverted to their original genetic diversity.

There are a lot of fun stories out there and that is a big part of the fun, but weed changes constantly. It evolves about 10,000 times faster than mammals.

@Canned Abyss1: I remember here in California I would have to drive 2 towns over and then park around the street to go buy things at the grow store. People would actually get busted because they would buy a whole bunch of shit and load it up and there would be cops watching everything. People that worked at the grow store even got busted for growing.

Stories like the chem story are the reason I save bag seed from pot I deem to be excellent. If it's particularly good shit and I find some beans, they get labeled and saved. Bag seed can be extremely rewarding.

and when i see pics of guys grows/buds.. they look incretable... but 99.9times i could swap out the bud of chemdog (as an example) for a bud of kush or ...(fill in the blank)... n 99.99999 of the peep's ... including the breeder wont know i did the swap...

As I have said before just because someone didn't witness an event doesn't mean that the event didn't happen. There are numerous people that were there that can confirm the prices.

We were driving through the desert outside of Sedona when the pickup hit a nail in the road and we were stranded. Out of herb, out of luck, we starded walking...

We came across this Indian reservation and the people took us in for food and water.

That night I met this native American goddess and she took me back to her room in the village, I'll never forget that night.

Stoned on the herb from the elders, there were times when she appeared to be woman and then wolf as if she was some otherworldy creature that shapeshifted while we made love.

The next morning the Indians got us back on the road and we headed towards the coast.

We were happy to be back on the road, but really wished we had some smoke from the tribal celebration the other night.

I put my hand in my right coat pocket and found this baggie with about a 1/4 ounce of the most earth shattering buds you've never seen in your life.

From that baggie came 8 seeds that I brought back to the midwest, and that 20 years later was the foundation of my strain.

History of the Chemdawg Family

At a Grateful Dead show at Deer Creek Amphitheatre, 'joebrand' (aka 'wonkanobe') and 'pbud' met 'chemdog' and sold him an ounce of very high quality pot for $500. joe and chemdog exchanged numbers and they later arranged for two ounces to be shipped to chemdog on the east coast. According to chemdog, one ounce was seedless and the other had 13 seeds.

In �91, chemdog popped the first 4 seeds. From these seeds, one male was found and disposed of (chemdog was young, you can�t blame him). The 3 females were labeled �chemdawg� (now �91 chemdawg), �chemdawg a� (now chemdawg�s sister), and �chemdawg b�. In '01, chemdog and his girlfriend attempted to germ 3 more seeds, labeled �c�, �d�, and �e�. the �e� seed never germinated, �c� turned out to be junk (according to chemdog), and chemdawg �d� was the keeper. In '06, 'chemdog' and 'joebrand' reunited and joe was given 4 of the last 6 beans: Chemdawg phenos 1-4, '4' being the chosen keeper. Joe thought the '4' was the best representation of the original and thus dubbed it the 'reunion pheno'. Chemdog still has two seeds left in his stash.

Chemdawg Crosses:
� 'OG Kush' (the original cut) came from an s1 from in a bag of '91 Chemdawg in the Lake Tahoe area in 1996.
� 'Sour Diesel' aka ECSD came from an accidental cross of ('91 Chemdawg x Mass Super Skunk/NL)x DNL after the DNL hermed and seeded the room. The DNL's lineage is NL/Shiva x Hawaiian.
� Original Diesel' (also known as Diesel #1, Headband, Daywrecker Diesel, Underdawg) came from a cross of '91 Chemdawg x (Mass Super Skunk x Sensi's Northern Lights) done by a guy known as �weasel�.

� 'chemdog' and friends made several crosses that are held closely by a small group of friends and acquaintances. Among them are:

1. Super Snowdawg (Bubble Chem x [Super skunk x Oregon Sno])
2. Giesel (Chem D x Mass Super Skunk)
3. Bubble Chem (Chemdawg�s Sister x Sag's Bubbleberry)
4. Dawg Daze aka ChemHaze (Chem D x �93 Sensi's NL#5/Haze)
5. Chemdawg D x Pbud (another old-school Colorado strain)


JJ-NYC has been working on a Chemdawg D-based seed line for several years now. He started by crossing Chemdawg D to Sensi's Afghani after thoroughly testing both Sensi's Afghani and Sensi's Hindu Kush to determine which was more stable and would be better for the initial cross. JJ then did a backcross, known as "Double Dawg." Several phenos of this circulate and several people still have beans. JJ's latest work to the line is a second backcross known as "Tres Dawg" which is just starting to get tested.

Rezdog of Reservoir Seeds recently released several Chemdawg crosses as part of his 'Trinity' charity auctions. The crosses included Chemdawg D x Sensi's Hindu Kush and Snowdawg x Sensi's Hindu Kush, Chemdawg D x Sour Diesel IBL, Snowdawg x Sour Diesel IBL, ChemHaze x Sour Diesel IBL and Giesel x Sour Diesel IBL.

Rez also used his MSS to cross with a bland Hindu Kush so he could try & get a decent MSS leaning skunk with the chunkiness of the HK .... Cannaventure got ahold of one of those packs & made F2's of his favorite pheno's & offered them as freebies on here to try & get those genetics out to guys that missed them from Rez ..

Back to the original question... I used to have Chem 4 and in flower it smelled exactly like the Lebanese hash I used to get in the early 70's with a similar stone. My guess is Lebanese...
