Wanna Ask The Old Farts A Question?

Hello folks,

I'm currently doing my first seed run.

My question is should I bother keeping the males in with the female now that shes well showing seeds formed with her buds?

I was under the impression males made seeds also, but so far these two guys have dropped pollen out of EVERY pod (I counted) and with 2 weeks left of flower aren't showing any sign of doing anything but using light.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

No, males don't make seeds, just pollen.
It takes no time at all to pollenate the female, a few seconds at most.
After they drop pollen they begin to die.
So you can pull that male any time.

I usually carry the female to the male and just brush them together.
A li'l green dryhump if you will.:)
Then the male goes in the hash bag.
Waste not, yah?

Aloha,

It goes much better now Weezard. Thanks for your time and the quick response.

I don't know how to say it without laughing, but I'm gonna go start yankin'. (plants that is)

so i'm having a problem phin my plants. i'm using ffof soil and water it with a 7.5 ph and the runoff wont go above 5.8 for some reason am i retarded or don't you water it till your runoff is where you want your ph to be? I've watered them with three gallons each and for some reason each time i check the ph of their runoff its 5.8 using a expensive ph meter so i know it cant be that what yall think?

ffof soil Fox Farm? Not sure mostly do hydro. But it sounds like your soil is lowering it. Different nutes change mine. And when in doubt recalibrate. How do your gurls look?
hope someone else can be of more help

  • also noticing a little purpling of the stems on this one. Like i said i thought that your runoff is where your soils ph is close to can anyone tell me i guess how your supposed to ph soil properly. Thanks for the help!

I have one of the Wizard water meters. It also checks pH. I use the moisture checker most. Unless You got some bunk soil from Fox Farms, you should be ok. I have pH up and pH down liquid adjusters, but I dont use them. Ive had more problems with over watering then pH trouble. Your in dirt. Try and keep it simple. Dont waterlog those babies Bro. DP

You need to get some lime in your soil quick, ph up, soil is also locking nutes out. You can pick up pelletized ph up for soil at tractor supply warehouse, don't know who else carries it, but if you are watering with 7.5 and it's coming out that low, not good. Make sure you calibrate that pen, I just screwed up a grow because of a meter said it was calibrated from the factory, whoops it was 6 months ago. Soil should be 6.5 or so.

One other thing is how often are you watering?

whats up guys and girls... ive just got a quick question for you all!

is it normal for a female plant to knock out a few fresh white pistils during her last week/few days of flower or is something more sinister going on lol...

I've never heard of a male making seed unless the male was actually a hermie. To your question, no once they've pollenated the plants they're just taking up resources you could better focus on the females growing seeds in their calyxes. At this point though, with just two weeks left. I doubt it'll make much of a difference to remove two plants.

My opinion is the run off is not the thing to measure as it will leech out with it, more then what was in it originally and so the ph will be lower coming out. I would also say 7.5 is too high going in. I would estimate my runoff ends up in the same range as yours, but I start out going in with the water/fert mixtue being 6.4 - 6.6. I say estimate because my fancy meter broke and I can't afford to keep replacing it because I don't grow for profit. So I've had to resort to using the vial and adding the test solution and comparing to the color chart. Which is pretty accurate once you get used to it.

Also how big is the pot and how often do you water? 3 Gallons is alot of water for one plant.

I wouldn't so much say it's normal as much as it's not that unusual. I see it happen especially in sinsemilla crops (without seed). I interpret it as the plant making a last ditch effort to become pollenated as that's why it puts out pistils to begin with.

It's also going to depend on what it is, if it's something you're unfamiliar with it could have a longer flowering time then you realize.

Well it depends on what you mean by "How to..." There are numberous threads that address specific issues related to the site but I'm not familiar with one overall comprehensive thread on how to use the site. If one exists I would think it would be in the sub forum for new people to introduce themselves.

This one is probably the closest to a "how to" for the site:

Well I'm pretty sure there is a thread or two on how to upload and post pictures. And links you can just copy and paste or type out the address and it'll be clickable. Cute sayings I'm not sure about what you mean still. If as a signature that appears in every post there may be a thread or two on that I'm not sure. I know you set those options under the user control panel but off the top of my head I don't know how to explain it.

Alot of these functions you're talking about are also in the message editor which is what comes up if you quote to reply to someone's post or use the new post button. If you use the quick post button then you get a "lite" message editor without those functions but you can go to the advanced editor as an option. In the Advanced editor though, just above the area where you type your message in, there are controls for things like bold, Italics, Underline, text orientation, bullet lists, fonts, size of text, smilies, attaching files, inserting hyperlinks, inserting images and so on. Each is represented by symbols most recognize such as the Dark capaital B for bold. If you hold your mouse curser over it and your computer's software has the capability, it should tell you what function each symbol is for.

Hopefully that helps some?

Okay I just went and checked and for the signature you get to that by clicking where it says My IC near the top of the browser window for this site. When you click that it takes you to what used to be called the user control panel. On the left hand side you should see a column of options and one should read edit signature. Just click that and it'll take you to where you can establish and edit your signature.
