Floats like a butterfly....stings like a bee....

Floats like a butterfly....stings like a bee....

......2 ChemDDIX1 sisters

These are at days 74 (left) and 64 (right).....very similar....and are flushing with that Crunge plant I showed yesterday. I'll have primo OD weather this next week....so they will continue to flush back out in the pit. They've been stuck by the sliding glass for over a week now.....due to weather being weather.

I started flush on yet another sister (she has the same expression also...but at day 54).....which I'll eventually finish flushing OD as well....I don't want to get all crazy and be moving around a bunch of stanky plants....so I make rules for myself. The rule is no more than 3 OD flushing plants at a time.....and they must be squat and easily moved. I'll bring her out with yet another Crunge plant that is part of her batch.

I will be flowering a very stocky Mental Floss F2 OD....a spring run...still in a 1.7sq....still fed the same....just done OD. I already have begun her flowering cycle indoors....after a couple/few weeks I'll be setting her out (and bringing her in) for the rest of her cycle.

....If all this sounds complicated....it's really not...kind of figure that my flowering batches are usually 3 or 4 plants put in at the same time....and that I'm flowering a total of 15 plants at any given time...well you know...that's the indoor total. The OD flushes allow me a bonus 3 spaces because they give up their spaces...I can add refills.

But considering (if you've followed this thread since early on) how I used to cram it....lol...it's pretty minimal. I've run as many as 50 in the space I now use for 15....that was to get all the basic breeding done over 3 yrs instead of 5 or 6 yrs.

I do not ever want to do it that way again....even as it is now paying me back the dividends for those 3 yrs. That was difficult...mind fucking. You must have dedication for that kind of sea.....yet....the amount of plants and different variety plants probably upped my game 10 fold...if I think of it that way. I've seen many things at accelerated rates.....mind fucking is an understatement.

It's pretty simple....and I'd not figure on anyone keeping up with my crosses....or their working names....but it's all there if you want to piece it together.

Getting there and it's still fun.....world on a string....an act of balance....an act of strength....and so very very fragile.

Emotional Rescue

Emotional Rescue

I went on a killing spree this morning. I killed plants that I had been vegging for months...one being the Mental Floss F2 that I had started in flower and had planned to put OD. The other victims were Orange BrickHouse, ChemDDIX1, and Mikado.

Why P? Why?

....I didn't like the way the Mental Floss was turning on in flower....that's what started the slaughter. I killed her....then went into the veg room and started glaring hard at what I have in there. It then started in earnest....all that were killed had something about them I didn't like....and were unaggressive expressions.

Lackadaisical expressions that twisted up in my mind and I was not honest with (myself) in selecting. Not fair to the garden's program or myself to let hem slide. No coin flip....gut feeling.

Does it cost you anything P?

Yup....time, space, and $$$$$. I'd rather it be now than later however. I have no patience for pretenders. They will now feed my worms and at least have participated in that way.

****Note: Latest germinations are looking good....strike rates are high. I'll post them up in a couple days....still popping.

Yeppers chop there freaking heads off,lol

Much respect bro, I always get that "oh shit" feeling after cleaning up a population, thinking I killed off the Grail. Props for stickin to your ideal, although most of the great smoke about are usually the runty lookin no yielding plants.

We, as hobby seedmakers have a duty to do the best we can with the limited resources we can muster.

Back in the day you looked for great yields, plants with great vigor and of course potentcy.

Nowadays growers don't even care if a so called elite throws nanners, look at the cuts goin around any more, spindly, no yield, inbred lookin examples of mj.

damn P i dont know your agony but being a novice grower im not at the point of being able to get rid of anything i have aquired and with with the harsh laws for cultivating in fl i try and keep my count under 25.

flowering only 2 girls enables me to have a variety with the other 20 slots open but as hard as i try to keep my #'s down i still end up with 40+ plants at times. i am getting ready to germ 2 diff strains to add but im sure ill keep each pheno for a few runs to see which one i like best and theres still no guarantee ill be able to make the tough decisions anytime soon.

i dont own a scale so yield isnt an important factor to me, quality of meds is.

I actually feel good about what I did. I've had plants way into flower and culled them for whatever reason. Only once when I had to cull 2 of Chimera's HM X BB was it a logistical (I had 3 and they overgrew me....so I terminated 2...pretty far into flower).

You know what? Aggression and Performance are important to me. I want my plants to be ornamental, resinous, and I want yielders. I understand and acknowledge that many of the best expressions are lower yielding and difficult plants. I will be attempting to find my way around that. I don't believe it must be so.

I'd like to show you guys what I'm smoking in joints today.

That's a blend of Cannabis, Mugwort, and White Sage (the Mug and Sage I harvested while trail running...wildcrafted from their native environment....the Sage up on a mnt side...the Mug in a drainage by a flowing creek)....

...the smoke is very tasty...the Mug is dominant in this blend...a hint of the Sage..and very little of the Cannabis. Of course I can change that around by adding more/less of any of them. Nice mellow high.

I'm into experimenting with all kinds of herbs obviously....and find harvesting from the wild so much more fun and rewarding than actually cultivating them. I carry a bag in my running belt pouch for harvesting herbs as I need them. Never take too many from a single spot or am I abusive toward them.

Gives me more cause to take my runs further off the trails....more purpose and better management of my time out in the woods. Opens up so many more doors and a whole new vision. Follow the plants....don't think...but follow and be open/creative thinking outside the box. So much I've missed in the past due to my "Humans Dominate" society way of looking at things.

Growing Cannabis started me on this path....like the gateway or the Rabbit. I owe my garden the best of the best....I've been shown much. I can see in plant speed at Xs. It's not really slow either....so fast...only glimpses am I able to see.

By the by....those culled plants are already underground in a compost pit. The worms rejoice and embrace....overjoyed. Full circle agriculture.

Damn I hear ya! Were you disgusted with the F2 in particular you think or was it the MF all around ie.original? Mad respect for your integrity.

I grew Mental Floss....several different phenotypes...for at least a year straight.....when I was still a cloner. I made many F2s from a couple/few females and several males. I even have a Flo X Mental Floss cross that I'm sure would be killer....if I ever get to it.

Lately...in the last year...I've tried getting F2 runs in. Every time something happened....blind culling killed many...whatever the situation....I have yet to flower an F2. This was the closest I have gotten...and still no. I don't know what it is. Some strains/generations snub me...even though I rocked in the F1s....I'm starting to get dismayed in the F2s. I tried to break the jinx...but I'm done.

I have several other crosses or breeder beans I'll never touch...due to my gut telling me "nope not for you broham". I've wasted time in the past not listening.....and have learned. I'm not sure I'll mess with Mental Floss ever again because of this. This last attempt....was probably the 4th attempt into the F2. Wonderful beans...healthy...germ great...just not for me.

I remember...

I remember...

...when I worked a high stress job....coming up on my dream (career goal) position....getting into my peak earning years....buying property...buying toys.....working hard and playing hard.

Drinking lots of Makers Mark....popping downs....snorting lots of cocaine.....being able to do that and still perform at the job....in fact...excelling at my job. The job kept me in physical shape...I had to train to constantly.....hangovers be damned....bloody noses be damned....puking guts be damned....didn't matter...that's the way I am.

When I bought my backcountry property.....I planted a clone one of my crew guys gave me in the backyard. I hadn't grown anything in over 10yrs. Just that one simple little plant changed everything for me....

You understand that there are very real forks in the road? That there really are Rabbits leading you to holes?

I do.

I cloned that plant....later I harvested her.....I looked in the mirror and saw the sadness masked by society success that my life had become. I was becoming a drunken coked up pilled down lout. And I was respected and accepted by my peers. It was the day things....I realized...were not all they were cracked up to be.

Long story short....within 2yrs (and still heavy destruction) I resigned my position/dream job....and over the next few more yrs....I quit dope...quit drinking (I'm no AA sort....I just quit....I don't need a crutch or have to hear other peeps bullshit)....and got heavily into gardening any sort of plant.

The trail running also evolved....though I have always been a runner...it was in the last 3 years that I've run them exclusively....and started seeing the distances from a Shaman-like view point. To run the native land is spiritual. Feeling her up.

Sooooo.....now I'm getting heavier into other herbs....I've started a business so I can get wholesale prices on herbs that I can't cultivate or find in nature. A hobby business....I'm no business man lol....I'm terrible with #s.

The journey...has lead me back to this. The simplicity of birthing and life. 15 of 16 strike rate on the CBF's Kush side.....

The Odessa had an escape (I have beans escape regularly then turn up in some square they should have had no way of getting into)...so already down to 15...they are popping a little slower....I'll give them another day. Most are up though.

that story sounds so familiar somehow....i have been doing some slab climbing lately, slab meaning less than vertical, but what slabs lack in steepness, they make up for in the microscopic nature of the holds...no brutish thuggery, its all about delicacy and precise movement, absolutely trusting that your foot is going to stick to a fingernail sized hold, suspending your fear and holding on by letting go....and knowing that any mistake sends you straight to the ground keeps you honest...but those perfect moments when everything falls away except the narrow focus of what is going on in the moment, when you find yourself on top,or launching into unknown territory....

Not familiar with the MF seedline, is that a chimera work?

IME when it comes to the F2 gen, it all depends on the parent stock and how much work has been put into each line, and how many plants were used in the cross.

It seems to me from what I've done over the years a line that has many gens done seems to dominate the cross.

I've always worked with small populations, 20 to 40 plants at a time, most all the crosses I've done involve single plant crosses, even in gens past the F2.

Just for example, the Strawberry Creme line I have 8 generations on, most everything I've outcrossed to I get strawberry flavor and aromas. Chem d, sourD, purple indica and so on. But when outcrossing to Toms Ohaze, I get a majority of haze traits. Pretty sure his haze prolly has 20 generations or more.

Point bein, whoever did the MF, is prolly usin a number of plants goin to the F2, which of course shows the most variety in phenotype, where 2 stable parents would IMO have less variety.

As with the Strawberry Dog F2s, a lone Strawberry creme male was used on the ChemD, and yes there were a few different phenos, but if I had used multiple males I believe there would have been a hella more plant types.

The Mental Floss is Chimera's....I bought a single pack....and I made the F2s. I had a very little thread in Chimera's forum..."Me Like the Floss" (or ck my albums should be there) or something juvenile like that. I can't remember what it documents....and I was quite new to actually threading. I had just come out of lurker mode.

Mental Floss is well bred good stuff....Chimera does not reveal the mom but DJ's B130 and other BB males (some reversed females I believe) played the other part.

My F2 beans are problem free cultivation wise (they are handsome healthy beans that germ well).....it's just a thing between me and them. No science at all.....we are just not making it together and that's cool with me. That's how I look at it....a vibe thing if you want.

I've felt a need to run the F2s obviously....but it just doesn't happen. I can't produce that album. Nothing against Mental Floss or Chimera....I'm a fan of Chimera...look at some of my crosses.

EDIT: i researched my notes. To make the F2 generation I used 4 different females and 2 males. Every female seemed like a different phenotype. The reversed females aspect of that Chimera bean making era makes things interesting. I've also wondered the mother of Mental Floss....maybe Northern Lights? I wanted a variety package when I made the F2. I did label the beans from my favorite females.

Prep work and finding the escapee.....

Prep work and finding the escapee.....

Marvin Gaye my friend.....where did we go wrong? I'm in Pepper mode...Frusciante funkin' it with Flea....Chad holding it down...tony being Anthony.

I prepped these two I-HOP Grape Krush sisters this morning...they'll be going into flower sometime this week. I won't prune them again until around stretch time. Defoliated a week or so ago....now I just gut out the middles...removing inferior positioned branches (ones that will not only produce less but are detrimental to light getting through)...and any inside larfy bullshit. I know some of us on here are tree trimmers....same principles less the climbing.

They mirror each other.....untopped...only 24" tall even though I have vegged them for months. Their flowering sister I keep showing...now in flush....is from the same germ session. The quasi defoliations have kept them stout....but I promise the root system is all there. I'd say they are close to.... if not at....around 3 months veg time. Not counting seedling stages.

I already know what they are going to look like....and so do you....if you have seen the flushing sister.

EDIT: O yeah....while pruning I found the escaped Odessa bean and planted it.

Project...

Project...

How can I fix this and make them better? $100 slippers that ripped with roughly 100 miles (within 3wks) on them....and now have close to another 100 on them. I can sew....but there is rubber and cloth involved....maybe glue some sort of rubber patch...but then how will that stick to the cloth on top of the toe? They are now ripping out on the next set of toes as well. I can't have any kind of seam or it will rub my toes raw.

Doesn't really bother me to have my toes hanging out except in mud...or having the flailing toe piece catch on roots or rocks....that fucks me up.

Company should E-mail me back as I have good ideas on how to design them better. Yet to hear from them and I'm not bitching or anything...love the slippers...they just need a little modification.

I'm a sun worshipper.....and not the only one

aquaseal might do the trick.

http://www.aquaseal.com/

EDIT:
they need to wrap the rubber sole/tread around the side of the toe in high wear areas. you probably only need to wrap where its ripped and the outside of the little toe. you are doing their R&D for them and being in the product development field they should at least comp you product for REAL WORLD TESTING and the feedback obtained. `

now time for a bowl of Rez's DSD, strawberry pheno.

PERFECT!!! I'll get on that....and plan to modify the slippers even further.

Personally....I think I'd be a perfect tester. I'm your common (lol) trail runner who has harsh terrain to work with. I can easily put 40+ miles a week on the slippers in said conditions. Free slippers...maybe out of Kevlar would be all the pay I'd require...and some other swag/gear.

My $25 bargain bin old skool Vans I ran 6+ months in....and can still run in them now. But I'm sold on the toe slippers.

....I thought to glue the big toe and the next toe together(as I'm getting the wear holes on the insides of those toes...it seems like they want to be together)....leaving the 3 remaining toes free. Just a slight split.....kind of like a goat hoof.

I'm going herb gathering in a drainage with the wifey today. Fine weather and lots of growth with all the rain. Smoke fatties and collect herbs....go home and make teas. My wife bought herself a new backpack yesterday.....she's all fired up lol.....for sure the better 1/2 out the two of us....but I'm a better grower lol....

i havent ran in 21 yrs due to a spinal injury but i would wonder what type of traction difference there would be by fusing the 2 toes together like a mit?

would you loose traction b/c the 2 toes can not act independantly, thus reducing the ability to more securely grip uneven terrain or could the webbing or mit increase traction? these are ?'s the are answered in field test's, not attached to a machine to put it through repetitive movements to identify potential problems and establish the durability of the shoe.

maybe their solution should be to develop a more sturdy shoe for runners like yourself.

if it was my project and the job would be to improve the product and i was presented your shoes as an example i would turn to incorporating Carbon Nanotubes to increase the strength of the base fibers used to make all components of the shoe.

anyway, if there are any more wear issues post pics and ill add my:2cents:

I used to straight murder shoes back when I was skating, used to go on epic thrift store searches for lightly used American-made Chuck Taylors and Vans because anything Chinese-made was dead within 3 or 4 sessions. I feel your pain.

No crazy mountain running for me, but I did recently wear holes in the soles of my favorite dancing shoes...
