Hey gang I am going back to Organic Soils (for various reasons), and I am going to keep it simple and use Happy Frog by Fox Farm. One thing I have heard is that it has a PH of 5.0 already so I need to PH my res. to 7 - 7.5 to get it around 6. - 6.5?

Is their anything else I should know. I will be running a local only strain called "Tang" or "Tangerine" Sativa x Indica Hybrid about 60/40 Sativa leaning, their also will be some OG Kush, White and Affy Gooey. Running a NON sealed room with temps about 75 - 80 recirculated every 5 minutes, de-huey trying to keep flowering at about 55% humidity. No Co2, just from outside air drawn in which when I check is plenty of Co2.

One last thing I hear some peeps mix 50/50 with Ocean Forest, is it worth mixing it?

Any help on Happy Frog or sugestions are welcome.

And thank you :thank you:

Water with pH6.5 aways with FF soil.

Read the Moonshineman mix thread

best soil in the world
1 bag each

FF Ocean Forext
FF HAppy Frog
FF Light Warrior

1/2 large bag FF Chunk Perlite
1 cup FF Peace of Mind Fruit and Flower yellow box
1 cup FF Peace of Mind Starter blue box

that's it mix well and plant

I use 5-7 gal buckets and get 1.5z per gallon average, usually I harvest more, closer to 2z per gallon.
without CO2 ~1z or less per gallon
with CO2 I get 2z per gallon of perfect dank

OF and HF are pretty similar, I would just use one or the other. There was a thread around here where there was a side by side grow between OF and HF and they both yielded exactly the same. The ocean forest has gone to shit over the last few years.

There's been a perceivable drop in quality for OF? Never used that mix before, but I'm curious.

Ya my last two bags of OF had bugs in the soil. Never had a problem with HF tho, I mix half bag of LW for every one Bag of HF an let soil sit in trash cans for 3-6 weeks an feed with brewed teas of earth juice an BSM

I had problems with HF and OF at the beginning of the year last year. The happy frog is kind of a hot soil and the OF is more forgiving IMO. I say dont use either and grow in coco or use Roots Organic. Fox Farm has gone to crap recently. Maybe they got better, but I aint gonna try them ever again and I used them for 6 years or so. Not consistently, but it used to be my go to soil.

I'm on the East coast but everytime i use FF soils i get aphids .... so i witched to promix & so far so good . i only use the soils for mother plants & controlling the feeding is better with the promix for me too.

just my 2 cents . :)

Actually, HF and OF are nearly the same mix other than the HF has omitted the fish and crab meal. It is a bit LESS hot than OF.

I understand there are two facilities now mixing the mediums, one east coast and one west. I have heard that the wc facility has the product outdoors and the east coast indoors.
You can bet that there are two different sourced peats used.

I started using HF last year and it shows to be a great mix. Although I mix both 50/50 coco in flower.

I with you mrk, it really seems the 'best' way to go is in constant flux with companies changing their process, mfg locations, supply chain. What was great 5 years ago my not be the case today. I also think some folks are guilty of over-thinking their medium...I know I am guilty but when we all love this little hobby it's fun to dig in and talk about these things in excess!

BTW, for giggles I am trying a Sunshine Advanced #4/Happy Frog 50:50 blend supplemented with extra perlite and the standard long list of organic additives. I am not rolling yet but will be starting the cab up soon. Come along and follow if you are interested.

LMAO

That would come as a complete and total surprise to these guys unless you want to perpetuate the myth that the grow store soil producers have some kind of 'hook' into the Canadian peat moss industry.

A fool's errand. Good try!!!

Why?

Roots Organic sources their base products from the very same suppliers as does Fox Farms (Wilbur-Ellis)

Cause it works. The Roots is lighter and fluffier than the FF OF or the Happy Frog. Has more perlite. It loosens up the mix. Don't know about FF Warrior. It might be the same as Roots.

Okay - no problem.

Roots Organic is nothing more than perlite-enriched crap potting soil. And all the advertising horse 'exude' doesn't change that basic truth.

Any input on the specific packing shed "Roots Organic" uses for starters?

How about their source for sphagnum peat moss? Their source for endomycorrhizal fungi? Their source for the 'compost' that they use?

I can help you out if you can get beyond your emotional attachment to this product. Produced by some of the biggest punks in the potting soil industry here in Oregon.

Beyond punks actually.

I wasn't looking for your help. I have no emotional attachment nor do I need to make others think I'm in the "know" about something I haven't used by cutting it down.

If he wants to be hostile, let him.
I don't see any of these products as being complete. If I can get only 2 ingredients and have to buy them, these are what I use and have used successfully. The mix is a compromise. It works. If you want all the other shit. Add it. I inoculate, use char, teas, lots of yucca but if I don't have them I use the mix.It works. Science or not.
