I will say though, that well grown herb run through the Twister still has GREAT curb appeal.

...through other means. In this side of the game they want bulk, good curb appeal, and a good ticket.

You folks out there commenting on "Imagine putting all the time and work into growing good herb to have it ruined" are trippin. T - R - I - P - P - I - N . Come see what our two favorite commercial strains , the Afgoo and the Super Silver Haze , grown organically and run through the twister look like ----> Excellent. Some flavors do well in there, some don't. I have a few heads that only want the dry trimmed and I have others that will devour anything with the criteria they are looking for -- smell/look ( curb appeal) & ticket, and the twister helps out in a huge way.

but Nomaad, since you clearly stated you are going for quantity over quality than you have set yourself in a different camp. I am just highlighting what this machine is good for.

I hear you about the armchair expert snobs in many D's. But we shouldn't paint them all with the same brush. I deal mostly with collectives that are models of compassion, community and good vibes.

The whole quality thing is kinda funny. I am not a norcal native. Until I moved here I'd spent a lot more time in Amsterdam than in Northern California... but most of my life I have lived places where I'd be happy to get my hands on the the schwaggiest of what is grown round here. Especially for a decent price. I have smoked everything from the sexy mexi in new york to the columbian brick weed in central america (also pervasive when i lived in new orleans)... and none of it holds a candle to what you are growing. I don;t even have to see it to know this is true.

I believe that the more people in fly-over land getting their medicine, the better. California produces the majority of the fresh fruits and veggies in the US. Why should the doja be any different. I am one of those people that believes that the majority of the population could benefit from (sometimes just the occaissional) medicinal hit...

Until all 100,000,000 patients are growing their own, we're going to need commercial growers in Cali to keep everybody properly medicated...

I lived outside of the US for two extended (5+ year) chunks of my life so I have had an opportunity to see some changes a little more clearly than if I had seen them take place day to day. . Over the course of my life I have watched the fresh fruit and vegetable industry completely change. At one point, there were only certain fruits at certain seasons. Imported stuff, even from within the US was hard on the produce, so out of season, New York did not have quality stuff... In season we had great local stuff. But then it changed. The market was full of perfect looking fruit from far away that had no taste or the consistency was crap. But it looked like an apple so we called it an apple. Over time, though, the mass market stuff started to get better. And now, as long as its domestic its nearly perfect because the growing, processing, packaging and transporting technology has facilitated it, not to mention that we have gotten orders of magnitude better at logistics. You can now get a nearly perfect piece of fruit from cali in new york out of season that tastes nice, isn't bruised, etc.

I still pay extra and pick thru the bruised stuff for the uber local, uber organic stuff. preferably bought face to face from somebody involved in its production like is found in the farmers market paradigm.

And so it goes with the doje. I make no judgments, just commentating on what knowledge I have gathered and what i have decided to do in my own projects. The marketplace has room for all of it.

GanjaD: hijack over. i'll go start my own thread to soapbox from.

Nomad: Your posts are welcomed here anytime. I'm known to go on a stoned rambling myself from time to time.
In response,I'm also very new to the west coast and my standard for quality has not been so easy to find around my parts.
I've almost always grown my own indoor and outdoor for years and took great care and time to ensure that my herbs were absolute top quality. I tried to pass that value to other growers by encouraging them to try this clone or that nute line etc. I grew up smoking mexi brick shwag, but over the years your average smoker in a non med state has become drasticaly more aware/educated about cannabis/quality.
I know quite a few eastcoasters in Cali and we always talk about how we miss east coast grown herb. The Cali stuff always seems to dry with out enough sticky resin. Cali seems to be quanity over quality for many growers. Maybe I just need to get out more, lol.
Also back east I never knew anyone running more than 6-8 k lights.

Although I should not of asked what everyone else thinks as that deserves another thread, but I am interested in why you feel this way as you brought it up in this thread. For starts this is obviously something that GanjaD is considering or you would of never mentioned it, so it applies to his thread. because he needs "Greenhouse and heat" as you put it. Secondly you already expressed that you know that using flouros will make it so the plants do not finish properly, so you might as well back up your findings like everyone else attempts to instead of just making claims and then telling anyone who questions or is interested in your claim that they are on the wrong thread. frankly since the theme of this thread thus far is truthfulness I am offended at your response and as a long time member I have never come across such a blunt crude response or post.

All I really wanted to know is why you felt that way. If you do not want to let us know why you know that HID is the only way to go obviously I will respect that. I was going to operate my season extension very similar to GanjaD with a heater to keep the plants warm and CFL as supplemental which to me personally seem to fit the thread.

:artist: This painter makes me happy and he is painting a landscape of an amazing thread with some even more amazing strains!

PS. GanjaD I am so jealous of the SOur Diesel IBL. I hate that I know that I live so close to that strain, but dont know where to get it. lol. Oh well my Deadhead OG, Golden Goat, and Choc Sour D plants will have to keep me happy this year. Peace and love

Sincerely

I spent six years in Central America prior to moving to NorCal. In that time things have changed a lot. The last time I lived in the Northeast was more than a decade ago and at the time I remember the occaisional dose of amazing herb procured from one of the few delivery services around at the time... "eighths" were always light as fuck, but it was always the dankest indoor. It usually came in a plastic case rather than a bag and was 100% pristine. @90$ per crappy 2.75 or so grams, it was usually out of our range.

Also... I didn't grow back then. Didn't know anybody who did. With folks only running 6-8 lights back east you have to be an insider to get your hands on it. Maybe if i had stayed in one town for long enough I would have made the right connections, but i was not so lucky. Best we did was usually the equivalent of the beasters I came to know in my first stint out west almost 10 years ago. But by then I had been opened up to a wider world of quality in PDX and LA.

In my own experience, I have never been around so much good herb as I am here and now. Sure there is plenty of junk, but it ain;t making its way to my pipe. the quality of my headstash is higher than ever before, its fresher and more abundant... I feel spoiled.

I have lived in the pacific northwest my entire life and never saw the quality or quanity of herb untill i got to norcal. I never left...

Every awsome thread I find on this site has nomaad and tom hill in it...

I leave a trail of awesome wherever i go.

Just Kidding. And to prove it, i'll share my most recent catastrophe. last night I left a 120 site aerocloner turned off... it was about 3 days away from being ready to start selectively potting. they were some of the most beautiful clones i have ever started. I lost at least 20, but the deathtoll could climb to 50% or higher. I have amputated a lot of palnt matter to help get them through the shock, but i dunno...

Rookie fuckn move.

did it last summer for the first time in years. now i leave 1 extra foamie next to the machine when im filling it so I dont even have to turn it off. There is no fool proof way to keep from failing when checking roots tho, still gotta unplug her for that.

i did it once last year too, but i caught it in about 6 hours and i don't think I lost anything. I use a power strip with an on off switch rather that unplugging, same risk of forgetting though.

i disagree with the part i quoted above. I am going to see if i can set up a pressure sensative interruptor to put on the floor in front of the cloner. pretty simple, you walk away from the machine, its like a quick trip to Niagra Falls. but its completely impossible for some idiot to leave it off for the night.

One secret to not fucking up when growing I have found is to not work medicated...Doesn't work for every one but it definitely ended my days "oops"

This is a very good point. When I am in busy mode with a tremendous amount of work to do I don't smoke until I've accomplished a good portion of the days objectives. Sometimes you just have too much work to fuck around.

When I have helpers I do not allow any smoking until after 3-4pm or after a lot of important work gets done. I had to fire one of my best friends since age 15 for smoking on the job without permission last May. It's sad and we're no longer friends but I don't fuck around. He was well aware of all rules before I agreed to hire him to help build a garden.

Sometimes the plants needs and tasks at hand need to come before ANY personal interests, including personal satisfaction and health.

It's important to not over consume cannabis regardless, and is a big problem among our cannabis culture if you ask me.

By the way power outages suck balls. Running low on gas and flowering lights should come on soon, shit.

Another round of rainstorms hitting with a vengence in Nor Cal this week, has to be
one of the colder , wettest winters in years ....imagine its beautiful at times & nice staying indoors, but its really been a long one & lots of outages thru these storms .

Spring will soon be here ;)

* Smoking herb & tending herb doesn't usually work ..especially when there are electricals involved down to just plain checking the watering & everything just once . Things go unnoticed when high & forgotten or missed ...always good to make a work schedule the night before & "things to do list" & "things to get" list , as well ...just before bed . Then it is fresh in your mind the next day & only takes a few minutes ...why a pen & writing tablet to keep daily logs a very good thing !

(and notes on the doors of rooms also for reminders & schedules or to let other guy know ... magic markers & sharpie pens , tools of the trade !)

:)
