Why dont people put plants under vertical bulb

Just wondering why people dont put plants under a vertical bulb. I know light shines from the sides, but doesnt some light hit the bottom directly underneath the bulb? Or is it not worth it?

Directly under the bulb people usually have the filter or a fan

but if put around all that in a circle or whatever but Im guessing they would either be to close to the bulb or they would grow too tall..

tbh i've asked myself this question, if i was growing vert i would have some autoflowers on the floor and lst them!:smoke:

Well I was thinking about a stadium grow with the fan on top blowing air. The plants cant get tall enough to reach the bulb. Then at the bottom put more plants, seems like better usage of space. Not sure if enough light hits that part though.

yea i thought that was the bare spot of the bulb, you should grab a lumen meter and do a lil test then log the grow ;x

Vertical lighting is some of the most inefficient lighting on the market. By this I mean a vertical bulb above a flat grow = terrible...

Vertical growing is placing the plants around a vertically hung bulb = most efficient use of lighting because you are using the sides of the bulb to gain direct light.

Vertical light over a flat garden depends almost entirely on reflected light and reflected light is a very bad idea to plan on from the beginning. You should reflect known lost light back to the canopy any way you can. Don't build a system around reflected light...

I think these two are being confused here...

Because all light goes to the side. Directly under the lamp is a black spot.

Nice pic FB, exactly!! Now just imagine how little light comes from the base end of the bulb..

Hey Aero I think its a little too late and you had too much to smoke tonight lol j/k. I didnt mean a vertical bulb that emits light at the tip of the bulb, I meant vertical bulb as in the bulb is hung vertically. I thought people dont put plants under it because they either put fans under it or its for walking space or something.

Some people do. But if you do make sure you spread the plants out. You won't be getting a huge amount of light.

And guys he's not saying growing horizontally with a vertical light setup. He's just trying to use up the left over space in the middle of a vertical setup.

But yes people put fans directly under the bulbs. But there is still space around the fans that could be used.

In my opinion it's really not worth all the extra trouble though.

I think it's you who had too much to smoke  Aero was indeed talking about a vertically hanged bulb. Keep it green, bro! Stay safe.

Let's try this way.

The lamp throws a shadow in the direction you're talking about. You'd fry your plant to a crisp before you got the lamp close enough to provide useable light.

That picture speak volumes FB. Thanks!!

I keep a fan under my bare bulbs to blow heat up toward the exhaust to help keep temps in order.

I do use the space around the fan occasionally in my vertical grows to put my seeded plants. They are always considerably smaller and less dense buds overall. There is light there, but not much...as you can see by Freezer's pic

Yes, you are correct, I totally missed the point of that question. Apologies!

Does light also diminish at the base of the bulb? I was wondering if plants get enough light above the bulb in a vert setup?

Hey freezerboy can you take another pic with the bulb facing horizontally lol

Like Marlo said, fan at the bottom blowing hot air UP^, not down.
Fan blowing down will increase air temps by recirculating, 'already', hot air..

I'm running vertical right now with a bulb just like in freezerboys pix.

the light coming straight out the tip of the bulb is absolutely worthless for growing anything of significance. do not put plants there and expect anything worth the trouble of them now being in your way.

about a foot out in a 45 diagonal from that location however, does receive light. The closer the bulb the smaller the low light tip area (at the cost of greatly increased intensity/heat that can easily fry your plants).

I have my plants set up like a stadium/coliseum around a vertical 1000w on a mover. yeah a vertical bulb that travels vertical :)

The bulb goes up and down about 2 feet, increasing the headroom of available light while keeping the plants close enough to the bulb for quality bud production. Also reducing any shading from fan leafs via various angles of light penetration.

of course you can hang bulbs vertical

of course you can hang bulbs vertical

with plants under them.. security first second run is a flat garden with vertically hung bulbs.. and his shits nice..

my shits nice and ive always had plants directly underneath the bulbs.. not permenantly but in a rotation for sure..

proof.

couple examples.. the more plants the more bud.. if you dont mind moving the plants in and out of rows for access why not add those extras undetneath the lamp, as long as you rotate them into direct lighting from time to time...
