Bullfrog, which book did you get? Is it Don Langevins book? That is the giant pumpkin growers bible.

Yup, that is the book. I am glad I chose a good one from a blind selection. It had the best reviews from what I could tell.
They don't really sell them, if you go to this link and make a post that you are new to big pumpkins and just ask if anyone has some seeds, they will give them to you for the price of postage. I have some that came from a world record cross. If you can't get any over there pm me and I can give you some of mine.

I got it now. I signed up and hope to learn as much as IC has taught me.
I always like threads like these, I am a member at the giant pumpkins forum, there's a lot of great people there that will sell you seed.

My favorite picture of all times on ICmag. I remember when you posted it and I believe it was me that put it up for pic of the month. A big inspiration for both the cannabis and the giant pumpkin, not to mention your camera skills.

Please keep me updated, however I am sure I will be following your grow.

I do have a couple of questions, what is harvest time for pumpkins? Also, when growing melons or squash in the past, I always seem to get powdery mildew. I have a yard with better sun now, but is this a common problem? Thank for the help everybody.

What kind of manure? High N?

Look on craigslist and you can get free composted horse manure from a horse stable near you. I put it on my garden twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. As far as harvest time for pumpkins, you can do it pretty much whenever you want once it starts getting big. I harvest mine in the first week of October.

I bought some giant pumpkin seeds from a prize winning strain from the US a few years ago, I haven't got around to growing them but this thread has inspired me again!

Great pics - love the one with the buds in it as well.

Well BF looks like you've stirred up some interest here! Mine are grown in our natural sandy loam, I till in some straw to help keep moisture, add composted cowshit and miracle grow all summer as nutes, add a layer of straw on top to keep the roots cool. Lots of sun, and big space. There's even more to it if you want to get up to the 500+ level. Happy gardening..DD

I want to stay all organic since it will be sharing the same garden as my tomato plants, pepper plants, squash, herbs, cannabis ext.

I am getting so excited, I keep checking usps for my order and to see when it is coming.......still hasn't even been processed, lol. I was hoping the book would come today because I am working nights this week and I will have some spare time to read at work, and get paid. I guess I will just have to read Teaming with Microbes

I missed that seed exchange but I was at the weigh off for the pics you posted. That pumpkin was a big one, it weighed in at 1645 pounds and broke the california record! Was Don Young at this years seed exchange? I met him there last year. Also, my pumpkin is in that first pic you showed.

I met all of those guys you mentioned at the weigh offs. Did you know that Pete and Cindy are vegetarians? I don't know why but it just seemed odd to me given their age.

What the heck you guys, you must be from my area. I wish I had known about this weigh off because I would have gone. I am in San Mateo Co, how close was I to this thing? I would love to know where to get some of these record holder seeds. The Burbee Prize Winner seeds I have sounds nice, but nothing compared to what you guys are talking about.

Turtle Farmer - Lover your avatar, Giants are looking great already this season.

There's one in Half Moon Bay, Elk Grove and Uesugi Farms. The one we are showing the pics for is in Elk Grove. As far as the seeds, I posted a link for that before. You can get them FREE at this link. Just make a post that u r new to big pumpkins and ask for some seeds. I promise you you will get some for free. You are wasting your time with Burpee seeds! http://www.bigpumpkins.com/msgboard/ViewBoard.asp?b=1

Well, I found a bunch of giant pumpkin seeds from the website you guys mentioned. They are being mailed on Monday. Some dude just sent them to me, with out me sending any money. I am used to paying 100's of dollars, just seemed to easy.

Thanks for all the advice you guys. I hope to be breaking ground on this grow soon. Until then, see you guys around.
