SAN JOSE (KCBS/AP) — San Jose may weed out the number of medical marijuana clubs in the city from more than 100 to just 10 by auctioning licenses on eBay, Mayor Chuck Reed said.

Reed suggested the city council use the online auction site as an efficient way of determining how much to charge for dispensary licenses.

KCBS’ Mike Colgan Reports:

San Jose Mayor Proposes Auctioning Pot Club Licenses On eBay

“These permits, these franchises, whatever you call them, will have a market value. If you put it on eBay, we’ll find out what that is and raise some money for the city,” he said.

San Jose already imposes a 7 percent marijuana business tax, even without provisions that allow for dispensaries. Reed’s proposal on Wednesday took everyone at the city council rules committee meeting by surprise.

“The only thing I could do was laugh. I thought he was joking, but apparently he was serious,” said Dave Hodges, founder of the All American Cannabis Club.

Hodges said it would encourage the wrong people to apply for the licenses. Reed cautioned that anyone participating in the auction would still have to meet all the city’s permitting requirements.

The committee decided the idea was not fully cooked and voted to put it off until April 12. That meeting is expected to speed the development of pot club regulations that weren’t expected to be finished until this summer.

So the people with the most money to burn are the ones going to be running medical marijuana dispensaries? Wow. I don't know why this surprises me, the way the world works these days. I feel bad for the people who need quality medicine and can't grow their own. Got my fingers crossed in hopes this doesn't get passed.

Yeah I'm getting really sick of this shit too. Not even about the growing but America. If you have money they want to set you up to make more. If you don't have money they'll find a spot for you in jail.

I'm getting tired of this version of capitalism. No shit iraq and afghanistan can't get it together. Look at the models of government we show them to emulate. Billion dollar "no bid" war contracts to private companies, massive levels of corporate fraud in the highest levels of government, lack of healthcare, abundance of prisons, ship our factory work overseas so we can pay slave labor, leave our own people out of work, etc.

America the great. The great train wreck.

Not suprised at all, this is how they keep control in the hands of the rich.. Imagine how much those 10 spots will go for. The rich will get richer and so on....

We should all bid with fake accounts to constantly mess up the auctions, this is how the people can speak..

I will bid on these if it happens...

What is the difference from that and the mob? It's like them saying; "you can sell on 'dis cornah, but, uh, I need 25% of the gross ore I'm not able to ensure your safety anymore...if ya' know what I mean."

Nevermind, I forgot the mob might actually look out for you, when the government wouldn't.
2 choices, the crooks in power, or the crooks in power...A or B, you choose.

From what I've read about Med MJ in SJ the local gov't and cops have been pretty hostile towards the depenseries.
I can't remember his name but one owner of a depensery got railroaded in SJ.

America the great. The great train wreck.

The USA has been proud to spread the American Exceptionalism brand of mercantile colonial "democracy" everywhere it has special interests -- read here as geo-political and economic hegemonic imperialism. For 100+ years, the USA has demonstrated that it would prefer dictatorships and crony corporatist economies over thriving populist democracies.

But in countries that are special cases, like Iraq with it's vast OIL resources, the Brenner (Cheney/Bush) Provisional Government helped write an Iraqi Constitution that provides free health care to all Iraqi citizens. No doubt this was done to help temper the distrust of the Iraqis in their "new and improved" corrupt Amero-centric government, what with the blatant corruption of its government. When the USA is dealing with an armed populous sitting on top of OIL, stability counts for something. Here in the USA, not so much.

But in regard to every other point that you make, you are correct. The Iranian Islamic Revolution began not so much as a wish to return to Sharia Law as it was to depose a despotic police state that the USA put into place there, also because of OIL special interests. The police states that the USA have done so much to put into place everywhere that we have installed dictators, with the counter-insurgency, secret police, and "death squads" training by "our" CIA and military (School of the Americas?) have created horrendous suffering of the populaces in the name of our mercantile colonial empire.

And what the USA has done overseas in the past 100+ years, the Powers That Be are doing here now -- the War on|of Drugs and the War on|of Terror are joined at the hip, used to justify the rise of a similar police state here at home -- essentially a War on People. Our democratic republic, based upon the Rule of Law built upon the Constitution and Bill of Rights, has been replaced with warrant-less searches, civil asset forfeiture, the end of habeous corpus, a vast domestic spying network, and blatant corruption in favor of crony corporate special interests. This move to crush small business/non-profit medical marijuana organizations in Santa Clara County/San Jose in favor of big business is merely the latest manifestation.

Maybe 1 in 100,000 average joes will make it... and of those prolly 95% of will get fucked somehow by the uber rich!

Santa Clara County & San Jose overturn 215/420?

Santa Clara County & San Jose overturn 215/420?

I have been following much of what is going on in San Jose, and it is very sad. Check out this article, blew my mind.

http://www.sanjose.com/news/2010/11/10/medical_marijuana_raids/p1/

From the article: Funds released to Santa Clara County from the Federal government (DEA?) that was designated for use against methamphetamine and illegal firearms has been misappropriated for use against MMJ dispensaries/cooperatives in the county.

A question begs to be answered: If the Federal government (DEA?) does not go after Santa Clara County for misappropriation of funds and seek restitution, does this mean that the DEA and Drug Czar are operating outside their directive from President Obama and AG Holder, a wink and a nod, or has the Obama regime also been pragmatically obtuse in their public misdirection?

Does anyone want to take a chance and vote for any politicians at the local, state, or federal level that will not publicly announce their opposition to the War on Drugs, and promise to work against this persecution?
