Good read look forward to the new pods and things to come :)

That temp gauge a fe pages back is that where your taking your reading from, don't you get. Bit of radiant heat from the light being so close? I'm in 2 minds where my thermostat should be at the mo.......

Nice collection of beans :D

Yeah there is a thermometer sitting on top of my heat exchanger... It's sitting under the lamps, with the fan blowing up at the lamps. 0 radiant heat. The probe for the cooling controller that fan is plugged into is at the top of the canopy. Trust me, I couldn't have my plants within inches of the lamps if I didn't have temps under control.

Well thanks for coming out of lurking ImaginaryFriend. Your comments are appreciated. :)

An old post I stumbled across...

I would observe that uniformity is my goal, to me the 24" data is smoother.

this is a post from the 420 Vertical forum:
After reading an authorative source stating that the actual light intensity with adjacient bulbs was too difficult to calculate, I followed his advice and directly measured the output of 4 600W HPS bulbs and 2 HPS + 2 MH conversion bulbs. Measurements were taken with an Extech LT300 light meter and corrected by the % difference between a new bulb's stated output and the meter reading (field calibration per the above author, citation lost). Note the meter reads between 500 and 630 nm so relative strength only is what is being measured and compared.

The v-scrog screen is 18" from the bulbs' CL, so that is the distance at which I measured the light intensity. The 4 bulbs are hung vertically to make up a 52" string, ~1" between the tip of one bulb and the next socket below it. The initial measurement 18" distant from the middle of the uppermost socket, and proceeded downards by the distance indicated.

distance .... 4 HPS .... 2 HPS + 2 MH
down, in. ... K Lux ..... K Lux
0 .............. 39 ......... 31 . . this is the midpoint of the top socket (4" from the ceiling)
6 .............. 60 ......... 52 . . the bulb midpoint
10 ............. 65 ......... 55 . . the bulb tip
14 ............. 75 ......... 59
20 ............. 88 ......... 66
24 ............. 86 ......... 63
28 ............. 76 ......... 62
35 ............. 77 ......... 60
39 ............. 70 ......... 53
42 ............. 64 ......... 53
48 ............. 53 ......... 51
52 ............. 43 ......... 41 . . tip of bottom bulb

I had originally intended to use 4 HPS bulbs, but it is clear I have more uniform lighting with the pairs of HPS and MH bulbs. It is also much more light than I had anticipated, probably 4 400W bulbs would be a better match for a 76" OD octagon; time will tell.

I would recommend using a light meter with stacked bulbs, doing so saved me a pile of grief.

Hortilux Super HPS LU600S - 88,000 lumens
Sunmaster Cool Delux conversion bulb LM.600W.U25.CDX - 50,000 lumens

Addendum: The bulbs had only 2 hours of run-in, not the 100 hr norm.
The chains in the photos has been replaced with 0.013" ss wire for reduced shading.

Daddy wants some Strawberry Diesel 99, that looks chunky and yummy....heh nice work and I loved the light analysis that you brought over from the other forum, now if I could only figure out how to apply it! LOL

Yeah I was just thinking it kinda looks more like a kush... it could be honeywhite bx2. The tags got mixed up, so I don't know!

The light analysis shows what I've been talking about with the overlapping light making the lamps more powerful from farther away. Check out that sweet spot in the middle, where the middle lamps are receiving added light from the top and bottom.

Been lurking this thread for too long without a little 'nice looking grow' tossed in.

So:

Nice Looking Grow!

Me too!

I have been following along and actually changed my grow style into something based on your setup.

Keep up the great work Bobble!

Thanks Bro for explaining in laymen`s terms bout overlap with stacked bulbs , and yeah.......always knew the overlap from bottom and top stacked bulbs made my middle section of plants the dankest , densest of the rooms , just didn`t know the science behind it ..........

But if watts per sq ft are maintained along with environment , the rest stay real damn close above and below once dialed ......

I`m waitin on Bobblehead version 5.0 with "flip-pods" pumpin out dank every few weeks or so.......Git er done.....

Peace....DHF....:ying:.....

ha ha... I like the ring of that myself...

This week has been horrible for me... I was supposed to be moving into my new grow house, when... Cybercriminals cleaned out my bank account, and tried charging my credit card. All sources of money have been cut off! I'm just waiting for this situation to get fixed, and bobblehead's flip pods v5.0 will be under way.

To top of my little financial crisis, both FedEx and UPS have dropped packages, ruining the contents... So that shit has to be taken care of. It's been a real shit storm of bad luck lately...

Weeks like this, I just have to remember the good things... Like this 1800w pod that I have bumpin right now. :D I try not to stare at the giant holes where I see reflectix, and it gets easier as the plants fill in.

It's not all peaches and cream over here, but when the growing gets tough, the tough get growing.
